In Mystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

Cecil was originally a member of the 9th Platoon, before all of her comrades deserted. Katarina recruits her into the 7th Platoon, and she arrives during a sparring match with Draug/Ogma and provides them with steel-grade weaponry acquired through some of Katarina's contacts.

As with a number of other characters in New Mystery of the Emblem, there is a unique weapon named for Cecil available through Everyone's Conditions: Cecil's Sword.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Cecil joins in both versions of Prologue 6. Her base stats are decent; while they do not stand out enough to make her one of the best units in the Prologue, there is not much competition, so using her is helpful. Her D rank in swords allows her to use the Steel Swords she joins with, increasing her damage output.

On the Lunatic difficulty, Cecil's defenses are good enough to survive a hit from all enemies in Prologues 6 and 7. Her base speed is also high enough to prevent her from getting doubled, and her speed growth is excellent. Cecil is not fast enough to double enemies at base level. Still, she will eventually start doubling, increasing her damage output.

Cecil's durability really suffers a few maps after she joins. In Prologue 8, a few enemies oneshot her unless she levels up her defensive stats. In Chapter 2, the cavaliers and dracoknights oneshot her if she is at base level with no defensive level-ups. Cecil struggles to survive attacks from stronger enemies without significant investment throughout the game, at least on higher difficulties. Some enemies kill her in one hit, which sets her apart from Roderick and Luke, her direct competitors. They have more HP and base defense than Cecil does, and their defensive growths are also higher than hers, making it easier for them to survive at least a single hit.

Where Cecil shines is her speed. Cecil is among the fastest early-joining units, with a base speed of 9 and a growth of 75% as a cavalier. While her base speed is too low to double, she will definitely gain enough points from level-ups to start doubling enemies. Furthermore, in Chapter 2, the player can obtain the Ladyblade, one of the best early-game weapons. It is an E rank sword exclusive to female units, with the same stats as a Silver Sword, but with five more uses. Cecil is one of its best users because she can double with it after some investment, making her damage output very high. Her strength will usually not be high enough to one-round enemies on higher difficulties, even with the Ladyblade - at least not before promotion. However, she can still deal significant chunks of damage, making her a capable combat unit.

Cecil faces very little competition for the Ladyblade. The only unit that can compete with Cecil for it without reclassing is a female Kris in a class that uses swords. Like Palla and Catria, other female units can reclass to a sword-using class, but that removes their flying utility. However, Palla and Catria can choose to reclass into the cavalier classline in order to use the Ladyblade without losing their movement or lance rank, but at the cost of their flight capabilities. Reclassing a healer like Marisha is also discouraged because their personal bases are not suitable for combat classes. In this situation, Cecil is the best user of the Ladyblade except for a specific Kris and cavalier Catria or Palla, giving her a unique niche.

Cecil also has an advantage in her reclassing options. Since she is a female unit, she can reclass to Pegasus Knight in the early game, giving the player access to another flier. While her stats as a pegasus knight will not hold a candle to units like Palla or Catria, she will retain most of her good traits, like high speed. The disadvantage of doing this, however, is losing access to swords.

Personality and character

Cecil is a new recruit in Altea's 7th Platoon, she is shown to be extremely loyal as she's the only member of the 9th Platoon that didn't desert and how she spent her life as a knight to Altea. She wants to prove herself as a worthy knight, and does not take kindly to people underestimating her for being a woman. This has led her to react badly to some actions, like Roderick standing up to give her a seat during a meeting, or Kris calling her cute for being scared and she also reacts to Luke calling her a violent girl by beating him up.

Even so she's aware of her flaws and apologises to Roderick for her attitude and ask him to help her improve her weaker areas such as cooking and sewing.

She also seems to value trust a lot and is unwilling to forgive Katarina for her betrayal until she proves her loyalty again.
