I always expected—nay, prayed—that this day would come, and now I have the honor of taking part in the liberation myself! The motherland shall soon breathe free again!
— Carrion to Leif in Chapter 8: Mt. Violdrake

Carrion (Japanese: カリオン Carrion) is a playable cavalier in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is a native of Leonster rescued by Hannibal after the passing of his father, a knight of Leonster.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Carrion initially appears in Chapter 7. He is ordered by Hannibal to assist Leif in reaching Tahra by going through the mountains instead of taking Empire-controlled roads.

During Chapter 8 Carrion continues guiding Leif; once a certain ways into the mountains Leif tells Carrion he may return to Hannibal now. Carrion refuses, saying he wants to assist in liberating Leonster, his homeland. Carrion reassures Leif that he has already informed Hannibal of his intentions and that he is free to continue with Leif's army wherever they may go.

Leif is concerned for Carrion's enthusiasm; Leif does not want to get Carrion's hopes up as their meager forces cannot hope to liberate Leonster. Carrion tells Leif not to worry about it and says that Hannibal has assisted several Leonster knights and nobles by allowing them to go into hiding in his manse. Leif is surprised by this and wishes to go there immediately, Carrion agrees. Shortly after this conversation the group comes across a village under attack from Dagdar's bandits and Carrion assists in defeating them.

During Chapter 9 Carrion can talk to Selphina, one of the Leonster knights guarding Hannibal's mansion. He informs her that he has returned with lord Leif. During this conversation Selphina reassures Carrion that he will become a powerful knight with time and not to rush. This talk conversation rewards Carrion with the Paragon Sword, an heirloom from his father.

After Chapter 9 Carrion's story presence comes to an end and he fights with Leif's liberation army until at least the liberation of Munster. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's is unknown, as he does not appear in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

As a level 1 Cavalier who joins in Chapter 8, Carrion is under-leveled, and his base stats are poor for his join time. His weapon ranks are also miserable for his join time - D-rank in lances and E-rank in swords prevent him from using powerful weapons. This makes him a growth unit that cannot contribute much without receiving investment first.

In Chapter 9, Carrion can talk to Selphina to obtain the Paragon Sword. It has the stats of a Steel Sword, but it is lighter, only requires E-rank to wield, gives its user a passive +5 defense bonus and the Paragon skill. Carrion is an excellent user of it because it makes him much easier to train. However, any unit that can use swords and requires training benefits from this weapon, so Carrion faces fierce competition for it.

Carrion does have several positive traits that become especially useful once he is trained. His FCM of 4 is very solid, letting him reliably crit enemies on the second attack if he uses a high-crit weapon. He has an action star, giving him a 5% chance to take another action after he ends his turn. Carrion is also mounted outdoors, helping him reach important locations and fight on the frontlines.

However, Carrion has no skills and no unique advantages that make him worth training over other units. While he will perform well once trained, he is a poor performer at the base level. For that reason, unless a player is willing to give Carrion favoritism, he is unlikely to be deployed after he gets the Paragon Sword from Selphina.

Personality and character

After the death of his father, a Leonster knight, Carrion has looked forward to the day Leonster is liberated from the Empire. When he meets Leif at Meath he was happy to accompany the lost prince of Leonster in his country's liberation.

Despite his confidence in Leif and his hope for liberating Leonster, he feels his own skills are not adequate for such a task. He expresses these concerns to Selphina, specifically mentioning that he will never be someone like Glade, and she reassures him that he will grow stronger with time. He appears to take her words to heart and gains some confidence.

In his ending he assists in mending relations between the Munster District and Thracia. This suggest his time with Hannibal has allowed him to understand the people of both countries and help bring them together despite the deep gorge between them.
