— Carrion to Leif in Chapter 8: Mount Violdrake

Biography

Carrion was born in Leonster. After the fall of Leonster, Carrion and his mother were taken in by General Hannibal of Thracia.[2] When Prince Leif of Leonster, under the identity of Lugh Faris, visited Hannibal in Meath castle, Hannibal ordered Carrion to assist Leif in reaching Tarrah by going through the mountains instead of taking Empire-controlled roads. However, with Hannibal's approval, Carrion continued to assist Leif in liberating Leonster.

At Hannibal's villa, Carrion can meet with Selphina, who gives him an heirloom of his late father, a Paragon Sword. Carrion accompanies Leif's liberation army until at least the liberation of Munster. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's is unknown.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

As a level 1 Cavalier who joins in Chapter 8, Carrion is under-leveled, and his base stats are poor for his join time. His weapon levels are also miserable for his join time, as a D-level in lances and an E-level in swords prevent him from using powerful weapons, though he's very close to a D-level in swords and not far from a C-level in lances. He starts with a Steel Lance, but its high weight of 15 against his constitution of 6 is problematic and reduces his speed to zero at base, so he needs lighter weapons like an Iron Sword to double at first. This makes him a growth unit that cannot contribute much without receiving investment first.

In Chapter 9, Carrion can talk to Selphina to obtain the Paragon Sword. It has the stats of a Steel Sword, but it is lighter, only requires an E-level to wield, gives its user a passive +5 defense bonus to the equipper and the Paragon skill when equipped. Carrion is an excellent user of it because it makes him much easier to train. However, any unit that can use swords and requires training benefits from this weapon, so Carrion faces fierce competition for it. Nanna, for example, can use staves, meaning that she can also take advantage of its effect when she's healing someone, so she benefits from it even more than him.

Carrion does have several positive traits that become especially useful once he is trained. His growths are good, though only his HP and skill growths stand out as great, and his FCM of 4 is very solid, letting him reliably crit enemies on the second attack if he uses a high-crit weapon and often performing them even without those weapons when his great skill growth kicks in. He also has an action star, giving him a 5% chance to take another action after he ends his turn. Carrion is also mounted outdoors, helping him reach important locations and fight on the frontlines. He's the only playable Cavalier in the game, and as such, he can use both swords and lances when mounted, so he has control over the weapon triangle and is in one of the least penalized classes when dismounted, as he can use swords at any moment.

However, Carrion has no skills and no unique advantages that make him worth training over other units. While he will perform well once trained, he is a poor performer at the base level. For that reason, unless a player is willing to give Carrion favoritism, he is unlikely to be deployed after he gets the Paragon Sword from Selphina.

Personality

After the death of his father, a Leonster knight, Carrion has looked forward to the day Leonster is liberated from the Empire. When he meets Leif at Meath he was happy to accompany the lost prince of Leonster in his country's liberation.

Despite his confidence in Leif and his hope for liberating Leonster, he feels his own skills are not adequate for such a task. He expresses these concerns to Selphina, specifically mentioning that he will never be someone like Glade, and she reassures him that he will grow stronger with time. He appears to take her words to heart and gains some confidence.

In his ending he assists in mending relations between the Munster District and Thracia. This suggest his time with Hannibal has allowed him to understand the people of both countries and help bring them together despite the deep gorge between them.

Endings

Carrion, Nobleman of Leonster
At Leif's own request, Carrion transferred to a posting at Castle Meath, which reunited him with Hannibal. From then on, the two worked together to ease tensions between Northern and Southern Thracians. He is considered one of the most influential factors to the successful reunification of Thracia.
