Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Calill is a lategame prepromoted sage. Her base stats are competent enough to compete with a trained Soren, Ilyana, or Tormod. She has excellent 1-2 range combat, reliably doubling and dealing good magic damage. She is the first of two playable units with enough weapon rank to use all anima siege tomes without any investment. She has good avoid, having solid base speed and luck. However, her durability is low, so she cannot take more than a few physical hits, limiting her enemy phase. Furthermore, she cannot use staves like other mages can, and is stuck with knives.

Calill has solid offensive growths, so she will continue to have good 1-2 range magic combat through the rest of the game. She has a good defense growth, but it is not enough to fix her bad base durability, so she will always be physically frail. She can keep up with other growth-based sages through the latter half of the game, effectively trading staves for good weapon ranks and no investment.

Calill has Nihil which negates enemy skills. This can be useful on Maniac Mode, as some generic endgame enemies have skills, or boss slaying, but Nihil is otherwise not practical. But there is no reason to remove it unless the player wants to make space for other skills. Vantage and Wrath can be a powerful combination, as she has enough durability to reliably hit wrath health, and will one-shot most enemies with forge thunder crits. In the japanese version, she can use 255% crit thunder tomes, so she can use a more deadly combination with just Vantage.

Calill has a dark affinity, which gives a slight attack and avoid boost, further making her a better glass cannon. Tormod and Geoffrey both have fire affinities, complementing her dark affinity's attack boost, but both of them will have much more movement than Calill. Nephenee's movement fits Calill better, but her wind affinity is less useful than Tormod and Geoffrey, giving avoid and accuracy.

If a Radiant Dawn game was started via a data transfer from Path of Radiance, any stat either Calill or Largo capped in Path of Radiance will result in a boost to Calill's base in the stat in question in Radiant Dawn. Should Calill and Largo both cap the same stat in Path of Radiance, the bonuses will not stack.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Calill is a fire sage available in chapter 2-E with the part 2 group, 3-9 with the Crimean Royal Knights, and joins Ike's group on chapter 3-11. Her base stats are well-balanced for a magic user, having average to decent magic, skill, speed, luck, and resistance, but poor health, strength, and defense. She is excellent for damaging high-defense enemies due to being the only offensive magic user in the party, and she can also use her meteor tome for siege-utility. She falls behind other units due to lack of a mount, though she can climb ledges to help compensate.

Path of Radiance Calill does not cap any stats on average but is viably possible if she is lucky. It is more practical for Radiant Dawn Calill to benefit from Path of Radiance Largo's transfers, as on average, he caps health, strength, and skill, and is close with speed. These boosts are massively helpful as she can cap skill and speed more quickly, and loses less speed from heavier tomes like Meteor.

Without investment, Calill will be underleveled when rejoining Ike's group. However, she can equip Geoffrey's or Astrid's Paragon in 3-9 to catch up. Her skill, speed, luck, and resistance growths are good, so with some levels, she can double frequently with good hitrates and avoid. Her magic growth is not as high, but is enough to easily patch after capping skill, speed, or luck. She can also use staves after promotion which gives her valuable utility. She can work with any part 4 team, though she is most valuable on Micaiah's team due to full mobility on the desert. By endgame, Calill is the easiest Rexflame user to work with due to having the best availability, earlier Paragon than Tormod or Sanaki, good class caps with the Rexflame speed boost, and excellent growths for a magic user, but she still suffers from poor durability and mobility.

Calill has innate Nihil which is primarily beneficial if the player wants to use her for endgame, but is often better moved to more powerful endgame units. Adept improves her offense and complements her good speed growth. Vantage complements her good 1-2 range offense, speed, dark affinity, and self-healing Flare, letting her be more powerful on enemy phase but is still risky.

Calill has a dark affinity which gives a valuable attack and avoid boost. Her awkward availability means she benefits most from supporting units that are either among the Crimean Royal Knights, or join Ike's group late. Marcia and Sigrun give an attack boost that complements her dark affinity, though they are both fliers with very different mobility. Tanith gives a valuable avoid boost, turning both units into dodge tanks, but again she is another flier.

Personality and character

Calill is very confident about her abilities, introducing herself in Path of Radiance as a "World Class Sage". She criticizes people a lot of the time, even her husband Largo. She is also bossy to others, and gives orders even when not in charge. However, in her support conversations with Nephenee she shows that she has some knowledge of what it's like to be from the countryside. [3]

Quotes

Death quotes

Oh, no! This is awful, but I won’t break... I’m sorry, Largo. I couldn’t grant your wish.
— Calill, in Path of Radiance.
Guh! No! I’m so...so sorry... Please...watch over Amy for me...
— Calill, in Radiant Dawn.

Battle quotes

Don’t dawdle above all. If you’re going now, then hurry.
— An unused quote intended to be Calill's escape quote in Path of Radiance.
Ugh... No! I can’t believe we’ll have to retreat here... How embarrassing!
— Calill's escape quote in Radiant Dawn.
That fool went and lost his arm in an accident. No more fighting for him, that’s for sure. [...] Oh, but he’s doing fine otherwise. A tough one, that man. Our business is doing great, and he’s married to the best woman in the world! That’s worth an arm or two, I’d say. [...] How about you, General? I told Largo that I’d visit you in Daein and see how you were doing. [...] Mmm-hmm. Men are so full of it. I mean, honestly, are you even listening to how stupid that sounds? [...] What I mean is that you’re stupid. You have people who care for you on both sides of this suicidal battle. And here you are, in the thick of things, looking to throw your life away! You selfish fool! Looks like I’ll have to do this myself. I’m taking you back with me, General. The hard way.
— Calill, when fighting Tauroneo in part 3 final chapter in Radiant Dawn.
