Byleth (Japanese: ベレト or ベレス Beleth) is the player-customized character, similar to an avatar, and protagonist of the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses. During the course of the game they become a teacher at the Officer's Academy.

Biography

Byleth is a member of a mercenary troop led by their father Jeralt, and spent their early childhood wandering the continent of Fódlan with him. After an "unexpected incident" reveals an unknown power hidden within, they travel to the Officer's Academy at the Garreg Mach Monastery and are offered a position as a teacher. They also begin to have visions of a strange girl named Sothis who decides to guide them.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

There are two different variations of Byleth available to Heroes, one male, one female, both based on their storyline appearance in Three Houses. Female Byleth became available for summoning by players on July 22, 2018 as part of the summoning event surrounding the Cohort of the Dead update. Male Byleth has been announced for release on or after July 26, 2019 to coincide with the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses; players who purchase Three Houses on or before June 29, 2020 will be able to receive a free copy of the normal variation of male Byleth. Male Byleth will first be made available for regular summoning during the as-yet-unnamed Mythic Hero #5 banner, although he himself is not the Mythic Hero in question.

Fire Emblem Cipher

Byleth is currently featured on one card in Fire Emblem Cipher, depicting the default male. Unlike other characters who can be either male or female depending on the player's choice, such as Corrin or Morgan, Byleth's cards do not include （男） or （女） indicators next to their name, because Byleth's name is slightly different depending on gender. However, since the English version of Fire Emblem: Three Houses does not distinguish Byleth's two forms by name, (Male) and (Female) are included here for the convenience of readers.
