Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Maddening

Bunet joins in the second batch of pre-promoted retainers right from the start of Chapter 12, but unlike the priors, his base stats don’t allow the Solmic chef to shine from the get-go. Bunet also faces stiff competition as a dedicated tank with Louis and Jade who will surpass him in bulk and damage output if used to any degree before his joining chapter.

But if opting to not use them in your army then with little investment Bunet can dish out a performance worthy of praise. To start, Bunet has good growths for HP, Defense and Dexterity which his starting class: Great Knight complements greatly. Great knight’s class skill also builds on his tankiness, making it easy for him to hold positions while keeping frailer allies out of harm's way. His Strength and Speed are on the low end of the spectrum, translating into a low offensive presence at times. A way to circumvent this is opting for great weapons as the main source of damage, but even in this condition, Bunet may fail to kill in a single round of combat against most enemies and die to magical attacks if his resistance is not invested when initiating against mages. Finally, he comes with relatively high luck growth, a stat that may have extra value for him due to his personal skill: Seconds, which grants him a chance for a second packed meal the moment he consumes it. This effect can proc after each consumption and when combined with the skill “Favorite food” from the Caring Princess emblem Bunet can remain constantly engaged for a considerable amount of time, hypothetically speaking.

Bunet pairs well with the Emblem of the academy allowing consistent access to the Dance of the Goddess. Also with the emblem of the Sacred twins if any other ally inherits either gentility or Lunar brace, as those become stronger while the Ring user is engaged. The very Emblem of the caring princess can be considered as well as a way to free up a skill slot, however beyond providing favorite foods as a sync skill the combination doesn’t have a lot of synergy, Bunet devastating -3 in magic and his 10% growth in the stat give a pretty clear statement that the guy wants nothing to do with books unrelated to food. Finally, the Emblem of the Radiance hero may improve Bunet's tanking abilities to gargantuan degrees but is ill-advised since the Chef is not a good user of the engage attack Great aether which works on Strength. It's good to consider simply inheriting the resolve skill and giving the ring to someone with a more offensive presence to make use of it.

Although Bunet’s permanent Engage strategy has the same caveats as Anna's money-making shenanigans: requiring high optimization through reclass, skills slots, or specific emblems rings to start seeing the payoff, it doesn’t hold the same return value so it's very possible and sometimes preferred to ignore Bunet’s personal skill and improve his overall performance instead. Bunet wants skills that improve his bulk or fix his offense: Resolve, Gentility, or Arms shield for better defenses or Sword power/ Lunar brace for power do nicely in his starting class.

Overall, Bunet’s combat performance is as odd as his personality at times with the higher focus on Dexterity and defense that lets him take on hordes of enemies and leave them severely damaged with his accurate smash attacks instead of just killing them like the rest of the roster.

Personality

Bunet is self-paced regarding study. He has a keen sense of taste and likes tasting all kinds of different foods.[1]
