Brigid (pronounced /ˈbɹɪd͡ʒɪd/[key]; Japanese: ブリギット Brigitte) is a archipelago located between southwest Fódlan and Dagda. It is ruled by Petra's grandfather during the events of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The archipelago is often heralded as "the perfect union of the gentle sea and nature’s bounty".[1]

History

While not much is known about Brigid's past, it has been recorded the lands have often been contested by the nations of the Adrestian Empire and Dagda for many years. In Imperial Year 728, the Empire invaded Brigid which at the time was occupied by allies of Dagda. The people of Brigid refused to surrender, which in return led to their nation being subjugated by the Empire once they successfully took over. From there, Adrestia attempted to use their newly acquired foothold to invade Dagda as well, which in the long term proved to be unsuccessful.

In 1175, the Dagda and Brigid War occurred, an event in which both nations joined forces in an attempt to invade the Adrestian Empire, managing to cause considerably damage by destroying House Ochs and House Nuvelle which lied at the land's shores. Eventually, the king of Brigid was slain by Count Bergliez, which put an end to the attack of the Brigid forces. As a result, Brigid was turned into a vassal state of the Empire, and Petra, the king's daughter, was sent to the Empire as a symbol of Brigid’s vassalage while her grandfather ruled the nation in her stead.

Petra was later sent to study in Garreg Mach Monastery in 1180, joining the Black Eagles house, studying and fighting alongside many future heirs of Adrestia's noble houses. When Edelgard von Hresvelg declares war on the Church of Seiros in 1181, Brigid is put into a delicate political situation as the new Adrestian Emperor desires Brigid remains an ally of the Empire.

If Petra is in Byleth's party, the future heir of the nation returns to Garreg Mach Monastery on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies them throughout the war regardless of their chosen side; If Bernadetta is on Byleth's team as well, the player gains access to the paralogue Foreign Land and Sky in Imperial Year 1185, where Petra, Bernadetta and Byleth's army travel to Brigid and defend the land from invading forces, either from the Church of Seiros (Crimson Flower route) or from the Adrestian Empire (non-Crimson Flower routes). Once the war is over, Petra becomes the new queen of Brigid and renegotiates her archipelago's situation with Byleth's chosen faction, giving Brigid back its independence.

Should Petra not be recruited on the Blue Lions and Golden Deer routes, she joins the Adrestian Empire and supports them in the war. It is unknown what happens to the nation should Petra be slain in battle.
