“ | One is born either noble or common. This destiny cannot be changed. | ” | — Berkut |
---|
Berkut (Japanese: ベルクト Berkut) is a ranking member of the Rigelian army and the nephew of Emperor Rudolf. Berkut did not appear in Fire Emblem Gaiden and is a new character first appearing in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He prizes his high social standing as the nephew of the emperor and a possible heir to the Rigelian throne.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Role
Berkut serves as one of the main antagonists of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He is one of Desaix's benefactors, and he vies for the Rigelian throne by performing military duties.[2]
Berkut and his beloved fiance Rinea first appear after the Zofian knight Fernand abandons the Deliverance, and Desaix allows him to serve under Berkut's command. Berkut elects not to directly aid Desaix against the Deliverance, and he is defeated in battle. Later, Berkut and Fernand decide to ambush and fight Alm for their own entertainment. Berkut severely underestimates Alm, is defeated, and is forced to retreat. He begs Rudolf for a second chance, and is assigned to defend the border between Zofia and Rigel. As he prepares for his mission, the witch Nuibaba offers him a mirror containing Duma's power as a last resort in case things go wrong. At the border, despite his best efforts, he and Fernand are defeated. Fernand swallows his pride and uses the mirror, summoning powerful Terrors to aid him, but Alm manages to channel Celica's powers and dispel them. Berkut is again forced to retreat.
Growing increasingly desperate to prove himself to Rudolf and earn his birthright as the Rigelian heir presumptive, Berkut begs Rudolf to allow him to join the final defense of Rigel Castle, but is coldly rebuffed. Rudolf is killed in the battle, and his greatest secret is revealed: Alm is his son, and the true heir to the Rigelian throne. The discovery that everything he ever knew and fought for was a lie shatters Berkut's mind, and he retreats to the basement of the Duma Tower to pray to Duma. Rinea follows him down, and Berkut, consumed by his hatred of Alm, offers whatever Duma desires to grant him the power to exact his revenge. Duma claims Rinea's soul as his price, and Fernand arrives just in time to discover what the newly empowered and maddened Berkut has done. Rinea is resurrected as a Witch, and mortally wounds Fernand. Berkut and Rinea await the arrival of Alm and his companions in the Temple. When Alm arrives, Berkut rebuffs his offer of mercy and attacks him, and Alm is forced to defeat both Berkut and Rinea. As he lays dying, Rinea's soul appears and brings him back to his senses, and Berkut begs Alm to defeat Duma before succumbing to his wounds.
Stats
Uncommonly for boss characters, Berkut has a bond support with Rinea. This grants him +25 to Hit and Dodge while Rinea is within three tiles of him.

Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Berkut is one of the characters added to the game in the Bitter Enemies update, and was made available to players in the twelfth Grand Hero Battle, which initially ran from July 18, 2017 through July 25, 2017. Berkut is notably the first character made available in a Grand Hero Battle to not only bear a passive skill that wasn't part of the game at launch, but also be the first character to bear a passive skill added in the same update as the character (in this case, Berkut is the first bearer of Water Boost). Only one variation of Berkut is currently available in Heroes, based on his Echoes: Shadows of Valentia incarnation.
