Belf (Japanese: ベルフ Belf) is a knight of the Sable Order of Grust, serving under Camus. He was one of the band of Sable Knights who escorted Princess Nyna of Archanea to Aurelis, but was captured by Dolhr after accomplishing this goal. Years later, he and fellow Sable Order survivors Roberto and Reiden appeared before Marth as he travelled to the Ice Dragon Temple, seeking to join his forces.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Belf joins in Chapter 13 or around the midgame of New Mystery of the Emblem, with solid growths for the standard of New Mystery and decent bases for an unpromoted unit. While Belf is by no means bad for his join time, he will feel a bit underwhelming on the higher difficulty settings without an early promotion. Belf luckily comes at level 15, so the benefit of giving him a few more levels is much lower than reaping the benefits of an early promotion, despite Master Seals being a limited and heavily contested resource.

Upon promotion Belf will likely be comparable to the rest of the player's army and can make great use of his solid strength base and growth to do heavy damage to opposing enemies. He can also make use of his C rank in lances to wield Dragonpikes and Ridersbanes for no investment. Along with that, he can quickly reach B rank lances to make use of forged Silver Lances as a Paladin or Dracoknight.

Belf's main flaw is his low speed stat. While he generally will not be getting doubled by most enemies he is also not doubling the majority of enemies either which significantly lowers his potential damage output. Along with that, Belf needs to receive constant experience for level ups or additionally stat boosting items to keep up with the high enemy quality on Lunatic and Lunatic Reverse.

Overall, Belf is a solid unit that will most likely find a spot on the player's team during the midgame and with a bit of investment can be used in the lategame as well.

  1. "Garnering 67% of 521 votes cast, it looks like Vergil has won with an outstanding margin! To put things in perspective, Vergil collected 3 times as many votes as its nearest challenger, Belves, and twice the votes of both challenges combined. With such a landslide victory, it looks like Vergil will become the project's very first official outright name change. Goodbye, Belf, your name shall hardly be missed." — Arch, Vergil Wins with a Landslide!, Fire Emblem 12 Translation [HoS], Published: 28 August 2011, Retrieved: 8 July 2022
