When you've finished off the first wave, it's time to recruit Merric. His village is currently in the range of two Archers (and a Knight, but he won't start a fight unless you attack him first). Use a bulky unit to lure out the two Archers, waste them, and visit the village. To kill the Knight without provoking the Horsemen up north, move a unit two spaces to the south of the Knight so that it blocks the bridge and attack. The Knight will be provoked, allowing you to lure him out and finish him off. Then lure out and kill the Horsemen. Bentheon is a massive step down from the threat level of the last two bosses, owing to the fact that he can only fight from close range. Have your ranged units shred him. Give the Ridersbane to either Abel or Draug.

Plot

Main article: Battle in the Lea/Script

Marth arrives in Aurelis, but his attempt to reinforce the Aurelian forces is interrupted by a troop of Macedonian soldiers led by Bentheon. Before the battle, Malledus advises Marth to begin taking some time to choose his best soldiers for a situation and outfit them accordingly. During the battle, Marth adds two new comrades to his growing forces: Matthis, Lena's brother who was conscripted into the Macedonian army, and Merric, an old friend of Marth who has been studying magic in Khadein. Marth's forces overwhelm Bentheon and kill him. A village elder thanks him, informs him that Captain Hardin is protecting Princess Nyna in a fortress to the north, and presents him with a Silver Sword.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

In this chapter, you gain Merric, a highly effective Mage, and Matthis, a Cavalier who fights very poorly and is vastly inferior to a properly trained Abel. For the first time, you will have to bench units, so start thinking about who you find to be useless. Make sure to buy an Iron Sword for Navarre (or give him one from a unit you decide to bench) and a Fire tome for the incoming Merric. If Cain still has his base 6 Speed, he needs to be reclassed into a Myrmidon to avoid being doubled by the Fighters in this chapter.

At the start, send some cavalry to quickly dispatch the Thief near the armory and send everyone else to defend the northeast chokepoint. Stock up on Steel weapons while you have the chance. Have your cavalry move north to intercept the Hunter and the Thief. Try to have all of the enemies dealt with by the time the enemy cavalry reaches you. Make sure to keep Draug (or any other Knights you have) away from the Armorslayer.
