Ashnard, often known as Mad King Ashnard, was the king of Daein during the Mad King's War. He gained power by tricking his father into signing a blood pact, and waited until every successor to the throne had died to end it. He then assassinated his father and became king. His plan was to unleash Yune from Lehran's Medallion, so he started a global war by first attacking the neighboring country of Crimea. He easily overpowered the country and killed its leaders, except for the publicly unknown princess, Elincia. He then went on to invade Gallia, the home of the beast Laguz. By the end of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, he is killed, leaving Daein without a ruler. The country was later taken over by Begnion. He is a playable character in the trial maps after beating Path of Radiance 15 times.
