— Annand

Annand (Japanese: マーニャ Mahnya) was the Flightleader of the Pegasus Knights of Silesse, loyal to Queen Lahna and Prince Lewyn, and the elder sister of fellow Silessean knight Erinys. In Grann 760, during the civil war in Silesse, she, along with her unit, were dispatched in order to defend the capital of Silesse from the clutches of Daccar and his knight unit led by Pamela, but were eventually killed in battle by Andrey and his knight brigade, the Beige Ritter.

Biography

Annand is a member of the Four Heavenly Knights who trained alongside her former comrade Pamela. When Lahna received word of the charges of treason alleged against Sigurd of Chalphy, she dispatched Annand and the Silessean Pegasus Knights to Agustria to escort Sigurd and his army (including Lewyn and Erinys) into political asylum in Silesse.

During Sigurd's time in Silesse, Annand served as Lahna's bodyguard in light of signs of aggression from Duke Myos at Tófa Castle, while Erinys remained with Sigurd at Sailane Castle. Following Myos's defeat by Sigurd in the Silessean civil war, Annand led her knight unit into battle to defend the capital from an attack by Duke Daccar of Zaxon, Myos's brother, and from another pegasus knight unit led by Pamela. Upon the arrival of Andrey of Yngvi and his Beige Ritter archer brigade, Annand and her unit were quickly overwhelmed by their crippling weakness to bows and were all killed, much to the shock and horror of Lahna, Erinys and Lewyn.

Years after Annand's death, her niece Fee named her pegasus "Annand" in honor of her late aunt.[2] Fee's substitute character, Hermina also named her pegasus "Annand" despite having no known relation to Annand.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Role

Annand acts as a partner unit in Chapter 4, dispatched from Silesse Castle the turn after Tófa Castle has been seized, leading a unit of eleven Pegasus Knights. She and her subordinates fight the Zaxon Castle army, but will always be defeated by Andrey and the Beige Ritter in both story and gameplay.

Personality and character

Annand's loyalty to Lahna was absolute, and she remarked that a life of service to Lahna is the only life she has ever known.[3] She was highly confident in her skills as a warrior and believed that the mark of a good Pegasus Knight is the ability to prepare to face any foe and win.[4] She firmly believes in a knight's honor and was saddened by seeing Pamela betray Lahna and join Daccar.[5] It is implied that she had a crush on Lewyn similarly to her younger sister that was never acted upon due to her early death.[6]

Notes

  1. In Thracia 776, Ced wields Forseti and Erinys is referred to as the Queen of Silesse,[1] indicating Erinys and Lewyn were wed. In Genealogy of the Holy War, who Lewyn marries—if anyone—is subject to the player's actions.

References

  1. "Karin: Y-You're right... I... I regret to inform you that Her Majesty the Queen has... she, um...
Ced: Mother?! No, she can't have...!
Karin: I'm... afraid so, milord. Two months ago...
Ced: Mother is... My mother has... passed away...?
" — Karin and Ced in Chapter 4x, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
  2. "How're you holding up, Annand? Being named after a hero of the kingdom, my aunt no less, must count for something..." — Fee, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
  3. "Lahna: I'm sorry, Annand. I'm just trying to understand your feelings. I...
Annand: Your Highness, this is the only life I know. Please, you needn't get so emotional.
" — Lahna and Annand, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
  4. "Annand: No need to worry. My knights can handle Pamela's squad.
Lahna: Are you sure of that, Annand? I've heard Pamela is quite a fierce warrior.
Annand: Yes, she is a formidable opponent. But a Falcon Knight never prepares to enter a losing battle.
" — Annand and Lahna, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
  5. "Annand: It's been a while, Pamela... I've known you for years, ever since we trained side by side to become knights. But not once did I ever suspect we would someday find ourselves as enemies.
Pamela: Annand... Only you would be so foolish as to insist on following your queen to her inevitable grave! Why should I complain, though? After all, once you're out of the way, that leaves me as the greatest knight of Silesse!
Annand: The only fool here is you, Pamela! No... It's too late to change your mind. You're so set on your fate... Very well. All I can do for you now is give you a last honorable duel befitting a Silessian knight.
Pamela: Heh... Saccharine as ever, aren't you?
