— Amalda in Chapter 19: The Empire's Counterattack

Amalda (Japanese: アマルダ Amalda) is a playable paladin in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Amalda is first seen in Chapter 15 as an NPC unit, where she is sending the children she rescued from the child hunts to the village's bishop to keep them protected. She grieves how, as a knight of Friege, she is forced to assist the Empire and is unable to rescue all the children. After being reassured by Sleuf, she sets out to protect the village from bandits. Once Ralf is recruited by Leif, she decides that the village is in safe hands and leaves to return to her own army.

If the player chose to go to the Melfiye Forest route, she will next be encountered in Chapter 17B. She was moved to the rear guard of the castle after protesting against Count Gustav's kidnapping children. Although she is an enemy this time, the player can choose not to kill her.

If the player chose to go to the Fort Nohrden route, or did not kill her in Chapter 17B, she will be encountered again in Chapter 19 as the general leading the Friege troops. She questions whether protecting her troops is the right choice, even if it means supporting the Empire. If the player has Sleuf in their army, he can convince her to abandon Friege and join Leif's liberation army to fight against the Empire, thus recruiting her into the army.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Amalda is an extremely potent filler unit and an asset to any player. Her growth rates are decent, but mostly irrelevant due to her late jointime. While some of her base stats may look mediocre for her join time, she is greatly aided by her excellent weapon levels. With A-rank swords at base, she gains access to all kinds of swords, for example the Meisterschwert she joins with, which is a slightly worse version of the Brave Sword. This combined with her fifteen base speed lets her quadruple many enemies, taking out most generics in one round of combat. Another good use of her sword rank is giving her a magic sword for reliable and strong 1-2 range attacks, which is especially useful against lategame magic users.

As female Paladin, Amalda gets access to staffs instead of lances, which are considered one of the most important tools in the game. While she cannot use every staff with her base C staff rank, it gives her access to ranged healing as well as the Sleep staff, the probably most versatile status staff in the game, and with her high magic base, she can put those staffs to great use. Though if you trained your earlier staff users and got their magic close to capping, they will most likely outshine Amalda's staff utility, unless she uses some items to improve her magic powers.

Unlike other staff users, Amalda is capable of wielding both the Flame Sword as well as the Sleep staff at base, making her one the best user of it. The Flame Sword grants five extra magic when equipped, and this boost can be combined with other magic improvements such as Pure Water, the Magic Up staff and ward tiles. Stacking the boosts of the Flame Sword, Magic Up and a ward tile gives her enough magic to reliably afflict any enemy in the game that isn't on a throne with the Sleep status, even the deadlord Canis, one of the most dangerous endgame enemies thanks to her massive thirty effective magic, Berserk staff and skill set. Since enemies who fell asleep pose no threat to your army anymore and can easily be killed or captured, this is one of the most reliable ways to neutralize any dangerous enemy you might have trouble to deal with.

Aside her staff utility, Amalda also possesses great mobility in both outdoor and indoor chapters. She can also take and drop as well as capture units in the few outdoor chapters left, and barely even minds the dismount penalty in indoor chapters since it doesn't affect her weapon levels at all. Amalda also has a small but notable contribution of an Authority star, giving every allied unit on the field an extra three percent hit and avoid, which helps to offset the dodginess of late-game enemies a bit.

All in all, Amalda is a quite useful unit that is both good at fighting and using staffs without any investment, even though her late jointime holds her back.

Endings

Amalda, Retired Knight
Amalda returned to the Dukedom of Friege, and devoted herself to restoring it to its former glory. House Friege's disastrous rule of North Thracia had depleted most of their manpower and ruined their family land. However, as the years went by, Amalda's tireless work gradually returned the land to its once-beautiful state.
