Alcryst (Japanese: スタルーク Staluke) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Engage.

Biography

Alcryst is the second prince of Brodia,[1] son of King Morion, and younger brother of Prince Diamant. Lapis and his cousin Citrinne act as his retainers.

After news of the Divine Dragon Alear's awakening and journey to Brodia, King Morion sent Alcryst and his retainers to meet them at the border, which had recently been under attack from Elusia. Unknowing of the situation, Alcryst fires shots at the party. After being corrected, he apologizes profusely and joins the Divine Dragon.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Alcryst is the second bow user to join the party, and his purpose is quite clear. His dexterity is excellent, giving him high hit and critical rates. On top of solid speed, he can reliably double most enemies and deal reliable damage to them. However, his strength is quite low and remains so throughout the game; Tireur d'élite's Luna patches it up for a while, but for much of the midgame Alcryst's ability to one-round is dependent on Luna activation. Towards the lategame, however, Alcryst's bad strength rears its ugly head as he lacks the firepower to one-round even with one Luna, often needing two Luna activations, or a critical hit on a Luna activation to bring down tougher enemies; this is problematic because as a bow user, Alcryst's enemy phase presence is low. His damage issue can be somewhat alleviated by forging a strong Silver Bow or Lendabair for punching power, a Brave Bow to try and fish for extra Luna activations, or a Killer Bow to try and get crits, but none of them remove his dependency on being lucky to ORKO enemies.

All in all, Alcryst can be a solid player-phase nuker. His damage potential is superior to other player-phase nukes like Citrinne or Panette but he is very reliant on getting lucky to reach that damage potential. Towards the later end of the game, he becomes increasingly dependent on good luck to perform well, making him somewhat unreliable; he sometimes deals barely any damage at all while sometimes obliterating the enemy several times over with Luna and critical hits.

Tender Archer Alcryst
Alcryst took on all clerical duties at Brodia Castle and provided aid to Elusia's recovery effort. The two nations grew to trust each other, expanding mutual trade.
He was praised as a brilliant yet humble strategist who kept his brother, the new king, safe—just as he'd promised his late father.

Divine Dragon Alear & Tender Archer Alcryst
Alear became the new Divine Dragon Monarch. His/Her bonds with the rulers of each nation resulted in lasting peace.
Alcryst restored Lythos to its former glory and grew to be an unrecognizably composed and powerful force in government. His apologies remained extreme.

Battle quotes

Alcryst: Father... If you have to die, let it be by my hand. This would be an incredible burden for Diamant. So I... I must...
Corrupted Morion: Raaargh!
Alcryst: I must do this, Father! If some part of you is still in there... Just... Thank you for everything. I love you. I always will.

— Alcryst, when fighting corrupted Morion in Chapter 10.
Alcryst: L-Lord Roy? Is there not someone more, um, adequate you should be fighting?
Roy: Why are you talking nonsense, Alcryst? You are the prince of Brodia—the land I was entrusted to. Who better could I face? Come. Let our battle begin!

— Alcryst and Roy in The Young Lion.
I'm worried...but you don't need my support either way. I know you'll see us through this.
— Alcryst in The Last Engage.
Be grateful it's me you're fighting and not my incompetent brother. I'll end this cleanly.
— Corrupted Alcryst in Fell Xenologue 3.
Corrupted Alcryst: You. Who are you really? It's been bothering me for a while. Why have you assumed the form of the Divine Dragon?
Alear: I haven't assumed this form. Would you believe me if I said I came from another world?
Corrupted Alcryst: So, you'll continue this farce, pretending to be the Divine One. How intriguingly brazen of you. Until I behead you and ascertain your true identity, you may go on entertaining me.

— Corrupted Alcryst against Alear in Fell Xenologue 3.
Corrupted Alcryst: Hold on! You... You're me!
Alcryst: Ugh, I'm sorry. I know our faces are the same, but I'm sure you're much more accomplished.
Corrupted Alcryst: How servile. Are you an illusion? Projecting your weakness upon me won't make me falter. I will triumph, even against myself. You'll see.
Alcryst: Wow. How cool! It's like you're me yet so full of confidence. I wish I was like that too.

— Corrupted Alcryst against Alcryst in Fell Xenologue 3.
Am I dead? Me, the brilliant future king? That's not possible. And yet, how are you here?
— Corrupted Alcryst in Fell Xenologue 6.

Critical quotes

I will protect everyone!
— Alcryst
For Brodia!
— Alcryst
I won't miss!
— Alcryst and Corrupted Alcryst
I hope this is enough.
— Alcryst
I'll kill them all!
— Corrupted Alcryst

Defeat quotes

It can't be...
— Corrupted Alcryst's defeat voice clip in the Fell Xenologue.
It wouldn't have come to this...if I were king...
— Corrupted Alcryst in Fell Xenologue 3.
I cannot disgrace myself any further now. I'm sorry I wasn't a good brother to you, Diamant...
— Corrupted Alcryst in Fell Xenologue 6.

Here’s Alcryst! He’s the second prince of Brodia, a kingdom in Elyos, and… Well, he seems to be a little shy. You can probably tell that Alcryst’s a bit lacking in self-confidence. His brother, Diamant, stands so tall that Alcryst feels like he’s forever in his shadow… But underneath that negative exterior, Alcryst is a sweet and gentle person. His brother and retainers adore him. He’s actually very talented too—especially at archery! No one who sees him shoot a bow ever thinks Diamant could do it better!
