Affinity is a game mechanic introduced in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade that influences a number of things, most notably supports.
The first seven affinities, used in Fuuin no Tsurugi, Blazing Sword, and The Sacred Stones, are fire , thunder , wind , ice , dark , light , and anima . In Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, ice and anima are absent, while heaven , earth and water are introduced.
When two characters support, their affinities determine what bonuses they receive from the support relationship. In Radiant Dawn, each chapter also has an affinity, and characters (allied and enemy alike) receive bonuses if they have the same affinity as the chapter. Most bosses share their affinity with the chapter in which they are fought.
Trivia
- While bosses and non-playable characters have affinities in Blazing Sword, The Sacred Stones, and Path of Radiance, they do not influence their stats at all.
