“ | No, I'm staying. There's bound to be more injuries further along. I want to help others in the service of the Lord. | ” | — Adean, to Sigurd |
---|
(Japanese: エーディン Adean) is a nun and noblewoman from Grannvale's Jungby dukedom, a descendant of the Crusader Ulir, the daughter of Lord Ring and the sister of Briggid and Andorey. While the bulk of Grannvale's army was off to war in Isaach, Verdane launched a small-scale invasion, successfully seizing Castle Jungby and kidnapping Adean, with the kingdom's Prince Gandolf taking her back to Verdane. While her childhood friend Sigurd led his few remaining knights into Verdane to rescue her, she was released from their imprisonment by Prince Jamke to travel to meet up with Sigurd's forces, with which she remains throughout Sigurd's troubles with Grannvale until the Battle of Belhalla, which she survived.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Despite their determination to protect Adean when the forces of Verdane surrounded Castle Jungby, Midayle and the other Jungby knights fell to Prince Gandolf and his army. Gandolf took Adean with him back to Jungby, mentioning to his subordinate Gerrard that he intended to marry her. Adean was imprisoned in Castle Marpha, Gandolf's castle, awaiting his attention following the suppression of the invading Chalphy forces; during her imprisonment, she met Deirdre and told her about Sigurd[1]. Prince Jamke came to Marpha to free her, along with the arrested thief Dew at her request; he instructed the two to flee while he returned to the capital to attempt to persuade his father, King Batou, to stop the conflict[2].
Upon reuniting with Sigurd, she refused his request to head back to Jungby, determined to help others with her healing abilities. She mentioned that she was motivated to join the nunnery to help her find her lost twin sister Briggid and give her, the major-blooded descendant of Ulir, the Yewfelle to wield. The two did indeed eventually reunite during the fight with the pirates of Orgahil which Briggid had led until very recently; while Briggid initially disbelieved her, Adean confirmed her identity by giving her the Yewfelle and having her successfully attempt to use it[3].
Adean was one of the few known survivors of the Battle of Belhalla. At some point after the battle, she travelled to Tirnanog, a village in Isaach, and became an abbess at its convent[4]. There, she helped Oifey and Shanan raise Seliph, Larcei, Ulster and Delmud, acting as a surrogate mother to the four; she also had her own children, Lana and Lester.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Adean is primarily for utility. She can provide healing, and through some of her events, some very useful teleportation staves. Staves provide a ton of experience in Genealogy, so it is not hard to get her to promotion level provided you have the money to keep repairing staves. As a healer, she cannot make much money on her own and will require payments from Dew. When promoted, she can fight in the arena to raise funds, but due to her lack of horse, it is unlikely she will see combat outside of that unless the player is going at a rather slow pace.
Adean's notable pairing options are Midayle, Jamke, Claud, and Azel. Midayle optimizes Lester, at the cost of weakening Lana. This is a worthwhile trade-off as Lester is far more likely to see combat than Lana. The downside is that Midayle's superior movement means he will have to stay away from combat for a bit to build love points with Adean. Jamke produces an inferior (but still viable) Lester without having this issue. Either way, this is the way to go for those who wish to make use of Lester.
Claud and Azel neuter Lester's combat potential, but in return provides much earlier access to Rescue, which is normally inaccessible until close to the game's end. Rescue can make traversing Genealogy's huge maps much faster, and on top of that there's a glitch involving Rescue that allows the player to have infinite turns. Azel provides the Rescue staff the earliest, but it cannot be inherited. Claud gets Rescue a little later than Azel, but a Lana fathered by Claud will have a high enough staff rank to inherit the Rescue staff right off the bat, provided that Adean is promoted. Lana's higher staff rank also enables her to spam higher-end staves for fast (but expensive) experience gain.

Adean: Prince Jamke, you're not joining us?

I have to get him to see the wrong in all this." — Jamke and Adean, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑ "Adean: Hey, you're... Yes, I knew it! Briggid! I'm your sister, Adean! Please, try to remember!
Briggid: How come you know my name? ...Wow, you look just like me. ...Adean, you say? Actually does sound kinda familiar...
Adean: Yes! I'm your twin sister! You were taken by pirates when you were just 5 years old! I've been looking for you for such a long time.
Briggid: I don't know. You're going to have to prove this to me somehow.
Adean: Okay. Take this bow. Then draw.
Briggid: Hm? Wow! Now that's a nice bow! Just draw it, right? Whoa! W, what is going on! Some strange power is bubbling up inside me. I... I have some recollection... Ah... my heart is burning... Adean. Your are my sister, Adean!
Adean: Wonderful! You remember! That bow is the holy Yewfelle... It's been handed down through our family for generations. It is said that only one direct descendant of a crusader is able to handle their divine weapon. And in our family, that appears to be you! Now is that enough proof for you?" — Adean and Briggid, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑ "Lester: ...So where is mother now?
Lana: She's working at the convent in Tirnanog.
Lester: I see. Lana, we need to do our best out here for mother and our missing father. Someday we'll be able to return with mother to her hometown of Jungby." — Lana and Lester, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
