— Deimne, on visiting Isaach Castle in Chapter 6

Deimne (Japanese: ディムナ Dimna) is an Isaachian Arch Knight hailing from the capital at Isaach Castle, and the elder brother of Muirne. He was one of the first members of Seliph's liberation army in Grann 777.

Deimne is Lester's substitute character, filling his role in the story and gameplay if Edain died or was not married in the course of the first generation.

Biography

Deimne was on a scouting mission outside of Isaach with Oifey and Diarmuid/Tristan when the Dozel army launched an assault on Tirnanog, but arrived early on in the battle to assist Seliph in combating the occupation.

Role

Deimne is a playable character during the second generation. As Lester's substitute character, Deimne only appears if Edain wasn't married or was dead at the end of Chapter 5. In Chapter 6, Deimne, along with Oifey and Diarmuid/Tristan, appear as player units at the start of turn 3.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Deimne's stats are not impressive, but he has two important traits: a mount and the Follow-Up skill. His mount allows him to keep up with the player's most mobile units at all times, while his Follow-Up skill allows him to double enemies. With these two tools, Deimne can always contribute something. Thanks to Canto, he can perform hit-and-run attacks by attacking an enemy on player phase and then using his remaining movement to move away, making room for another unit to attack while leaving the enemy attack ranges. Unfortunately, he lacks 1-range combat, and he does not have access to strong bows like the Brave Bow or Killer Bow for the first two chapters he is available. His highest growth rates are in HP, skill, and defense, giving him solid long-term accuracy and physical durability – however, his resistance base and growth are both terrible, so he can struggle in chapters that feature many enemy magic users, such as Chapter 10 and Endgame.

As for investment, Deimne needs a better bow than his Iron Bow, so the player should give him a stronger weapon, like the Brave Bow or the Killer Bow – both of which he can use at base level. With the Killer Bow, Deimne can take better advantage of his solid skill growth (through the Critical skill that the bow provides) and shoot at high accuracy; while with the Brave Bow, Deimne can quadruple enemies. Both options are good, and whichever the player chooses is up to preference – however, the Brave Bow is more reliable at killing enemy Wyvern Riders in Chapters 8 and 9, as Deimne can quadruple with it, giving him four chances to deal damage as opposed to only two. The Killer Bow's Critical skill is irrelevant against flying enemies, because in Genealogy, effective damage grants a critical hit.

It is also worth noting that Deimne has an important special event in Chapter 6. By entering Isaach Castle after it has been seized, Deimne gains +5 strength, which is a significant boost considering the fact he usually doubles enemies, and it synergizes particularly well with the Brave Bow. As such, the player should make sure not to miss that event.
