Wyvern Rider (ドラゴンナイト, Doragon Naito, Dragon Knight in FE4 and FE6-10, ドラゴンライダー, Doragon Raidaa, Dragon Rider in FE5, or 竜騎士, Ryuukishi, meaning "dragon knight" in FE10) is a name for a basic dragon-riding class found in several games; it has had several names in different games. It first appeared in FE4 as the Dragon Knight class, while the Dragon Rider class was an enemy-only basic class. Next, in FE5, the Dragon Rider class became playable and more similar to the Dragon Knight class; this Dragon Rider class's data is included on this page. Afterwards, from FE6 to FE10, it was known as the Dragon Knight class again. In English, it was translated as "Wyvern Rider", except for in Radiant Dawn, in which it was translated as the "Dracoknight" class.
The Wyvern Rider or Dracoknight (Japanese: ドラゴンナイト Dragon Knight, or 竜騎士 Dragon Knight) is a basic flying class which debuted in FE4 and is present in all games since save for the Nintendo DS remakes.  Based on the promoted Dracoknight of the first and third games in the FES, it was introduced as the basic form of a new class family independent from the Pegasus Knight which all ride wyverns. The class's primary weapon of choice was lances until Radiant Dawn, when they instead began primarily wielding axes; in Genealogy and Thracia 776, they could also wield swords.

In Genealogy of the Holy War, Dragon Knights use lances and swords. Next, in FE5, Dragon Riders use lances when riding their dragons and swords when dismounting. Afterwards, from The Binding Blade to FE9, Wyvern Riders use only lances. Finally, in Radiant Dawn, Dracoknights can only use axes.
The Wyvern Rider acts as a statistical counterpoint to the Pegasus Knight: whereas its pegasus-riding cousin is fast and frail, the Wyvern Rider is oriented in a bulky, powerful manner. Their strength and defense are both high, with lesser skill and speed compared to Pegasus Knights, and they share the same high movement and access to Canto as Pegasus Knights and other mounted classes. However, their resistance is abysmal even compared to other physical classes. They also share the Pegasus Knight family's weakness to bows and wind magic, in addition to their own weakness to weapons designed to be effective against dragons.

Wyvern riders are quite powerful, with high strength and defense. Their high movement is very useful in traveling and moving. Unfortunately, they have abysmally low resistance, and as flying units, they also have a weakness to bows. In Path of Radiance, they also have a weakness to wind magic, in addition to low resistance. As mounted units, they can move again after certain actions, such as visiting villages or rescuing units. In Radiant Dawn, this is acknowledged with the Canto skill.
In almost all of its appearances, Wyvern Riders change class to become Wyvern Lords. The biggest exception is FE5, in which the Wyvern Rider is instead the promoted class of the Dragon Rider. The Sacred Stones and Awakening both also introduce alternate promotion options for Wyvern Riders which can be chosen instead of the Wyvern Lord: The Sacred Stones allows them to instead become Wyvern Knights, while Awakening allows them to promote to Griffon Riders.

In Genealogy of the Holy War, dragon knights change class to the Dragon Master class. In Thracia 776, they promote to dragon knights. In The Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, and Path of Radiance, wyvern riders promote to wyvern lords. In The Sacred Stones, wyvern riders can become either wyvern lords or wyvern knights. Lastly, in Radiant Dawn, dracoknights change class to the dragonmasters. All of the wyvern riders' promoted classes' information can be found on the Wyvern Lord page.

The Wyvern Rider or Dracoknight (Japanese: ドラゴンナイト Dragon Knight, or 竜騎士 Dragon Knight) is a basic flying class which debuted in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and is present in all games since save for the Nintendo DS remakes. Based on the promoted Dracoknight of the first and third games in the Fire Emblem series, it was introduced as the basic form of a new class family independent from the Pegasus Knight which all ride wyverns. The class's primary weapon of choice was lances until Radiant Dawn, when they instead began primarily wielding axes; in Genealogy and Thracia 776, they could also wield swords.

In almost all of its appearances, Wyvern Riders change class to become Wyvern Lords. The biggest exception is Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, in which the Wyvern Rider is instead the promoted class of the Dragon Rider. The Sacred Stones and Awakening both also introduce alternate promotion options for Wyvern Riders which can be chosen instead of the Wyvern Lord: The Sacred Stones allows them to instead become Wyvern Knights, while Awakening allows them to promote to Griffon Riders.
