The Virtual Console (バーチャルコンソール Virtual Console) is a brand name used by Nintendo's online eShop under which old games from Nintendo's earlier consoles and those of other former console manufacturers are sold. The service is aimed to provide an alternative to video game emulation by opening up the vast back catalogues of Nintendo and its partners in the service for legal purchase in the modern market.
