Vanguard (神将, Shinshou, ヴァンガード, Vangaado) is a class exclusive to Ike, a main character of FE10 and its predecessor, FE9. Specifically appearing in Radiant Dawn, it allows him to wield swords (including Ragnell) and axes (such as Urvan). The exclusive skill for the class is Aether, although Ike can learn Nihil upon advancing to the class if he has enough capacity.
The Vanguard (Japanese: <ruby><rb>神将</rb><rt>ヴァンガード</rt></ruby> Vanguard) is an advanced Lord-like class which was introduced in FE10. The sole unit of this class is Ike, one of the game's two protagonists, and is his final class which he attains by changing class from Hero in an event. The class returns in FE14 as Ike's exclusive class when he is obtained as a bonus unit through his amiibo.

Ike, as the main character of the game, automatically changes from the Hero to the Vanguard class at a cutscene prior to the start of Part 4's Prologue. He has strong stats all around, except for significantly weak resistance. Despite this, he manages to be a strong front-line unit, as the name reflects, with high HP and offensive capabilities. Story-wise, the name corresponds with Ike's status as the leader of an army.
The Vanguard's stats are well-balanced and high all around, keeping to a similar pattern as the Hero. Vanguards are powerful, sturdy and fast all at once, having high HP, strength, skill, speed and defense. While other classes surpass Vanguards in individual stats, few have its overall proficiency, and combined with exclusive access to the ranged regalia sword Ragnell and the powerful Aether skill, Ike as a Vanguard has a formidable front-line presence. Its only notable weakness is its resistance, which remains as traditionally weak as most physical units.

The Vanguard (Japanese: 神将ヴァンガード Vanguard) is an advanced Lord-like class which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. The sole unit of this class is Ike, one of the game's two protagonists, and is his final class which he attains by changing class from Hero in an event. The class returns in Fire Emblem Fates as Ike's exclusive class when he is obtained as a bonus unit through his amiibo.
