if you need help

Hey, if you need help with wiki-code, tables, etc., just give me a yell. Tacopill 18:03, 5 October 2010 (MDT).

And I'm more than happy to help with Info that you may need! Strategex 16:28, 6 October 2010 (MDT)
Really? Thank you so much! I have something to discuss with you two (well, with anyone who wants to help, but you are the ones I see the most here). I'm trying to decide which info should go in a class page for setting up a project page. Do you want to talk about this and reach a consense? --Aria der Donau 20:45, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

I'm in! Let's do this! Where would you like to talk? And when? I'll see what I can do! Strategex 22:34, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

New User Help

Hey, editor-in-cheif. I'm new here, and since this is my first time on a Wiki somewhat actively, I need help. I need to know how to make pages(like my user profile). I also was wondering if a list of weapons in certain games would be useful. Thanks for any help and sorry if this is in the wrong place.Game Over

I learned some stuff! I like it here so far. I'm trying to edit the Super Smash Bros. Brawl page now with a character list (like SSBM), [S]however the list part isn't going so well[/S]Nevermind, I got it. Any suggestions? (P.S. I know I messed up the begining of the character section. I'll try to fix that soon. Do admins have a way of re-seting old info?)--Game Over (talk) 05:39, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. On the page, the Character section, befor the Character List sub section. I could have swore that marth wasn't in Brawl. Oh well, you live you learn. Thanks for the help. Also, I'm wondering what, from the Sacred Stones game needs to be edited? I'm re-playing throgh some of it, and I recorded the entire conversation befor Chap.7. I'm sure that would be helpful when I can make new pages.

Categorizing

Sure, I'd like to help!

...

How do I do that again? What in sespefic, I mean.--Game Over (talk) 00:41, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing! I'll start at it ASAP, which is right now actually.--Game Over (talk) 01:43, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

I think we got everything on the spot pass characters. I started at the bottom because I figured you would start at the top. You might have to double check, but I think we knocked them all out.--Game Over (talk) 02:01, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Is there something else I can help with?--Game Over (talk) 03:51, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I don't think I did it all. I started at the bottom and, about the time I got to thetica (or whatever) I noticed some were already filled, so I think someone else was helping. In any event, that's over. I think I'll try to hrlp out the Wyvern page some. I noticed that it says they don't have arms, but Wyvern lords (At least in SS) the do have arms. Also I'd like to put something in about names. I think I'll start tomorrow.

I wanted to let you know I'm still around. I've check back almost every day so far, so if you need something, just ask. P.S. how is Waterside Renvall?--Game Over (talk) 04:26, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Question

1. Do you have a 3DS. 2. Do you know about the Fire Emblem Awakening demo coming out next week.

I like the tables you made

But is it possible you could make them look a tad better? EX: adding border="0" will remove the old tables. If you could possibly make them like the table on my Zelda Wiki account that'd be nice. See I'm sorta picky on that XD. I hate table borders and prefer using CSS borders. ^^; - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 14:21, 4 November 2010 (MDT)

If I knew how, then I'd gladly make them better - but I'm just learning... Thanks for the advice; I'll take a look at your Zelda account. ~ Aria der Donau 14:32, 4 November 2010 (MDT)

Skype

If you could add me that would be great. I am hyperllamalord btw. SuperAlpaca 18:01, 4 January 2011 (MST)

Why?

What is the reasoning behind the following statement: "Only titles given to the character before or during the story should be included there; no ending titles, please." - Natasha 22:26, 24 January 2012 (EST)

Um. This was decided after learning that some games don't give titles in the endings, and that translations or remakes don't coincide with each other. And about the format users should follow when working on character pages... once I'm done checking all existing articles, I'll start updating the project page. ~ Aria der Donau 22:31, 24 January 2012 (EST)
So? This site aims to be encyclopedia-like, right? Quoting from another administrator regarding the ages of characters who are siblings, it "doesn't mean we don't know some of them. Why not display the knowledge that we have in its full extent?" Why not display the ending titles and games that do have them? - Natasha 22:39, 24 January 2012 (EST)
Endings do have a section for them, and several of those titles can be quite informal. ~ Aria der Donau 22:45, 24 January 2012 (EST)
"Several of those titles can be quite informal," eh? Like which ones? So there are some ending titles that are not informal? Again, which ones? Why should it matter whether a title is formal or informal - it is still a title, even if it appears at the ending, right? Why not list those titles in a character's infobox? - Natasha 22:59, 24 January 2012 (EST)
But it is not a title used during the story. For informal endings... for example, Marty from Thracia 776. His ending title is "The Man whom Dagdar Loved". It has no relevance to the story. Besides, this is a decision taken by all the staff. We have talked about it several times, and there is no changing this. ~ Aria der Donau 23:12, 24 January 2012 (EST)
Since when has the ending of a game not been considered a part of the game's story? Do the games just not have any endings then? And how do such titles not have any relevance to the game's story? Those titles are based on the context of the game's plot and are often made evident through multiple character support conversations. As a matter of fact, they are very relevant to the game's story.
And among whom has this decision passed? And why should there be no changing of it? - Natasha 23:29, 24 January 2012 (EST)
You are right; endings are part of the story. We even have a complete section for them in each character's page. However, this is how the administrators set up the project: endings have a section, and we are not including the titles in the infobox. That's it. ~ Aria der Donau 23:36, 24 January 2012 (EST)
By your same logic, titles such as "Prince of Renais" for Ephraim or “Marquess of Pherae” for Eliwood should not be included in their respective character’s infoboxes because they are already mentioned in the content of the article itself. To quote again from the same user, "People want to retrieve information quickly this day in age, and so putting the [titles] there saves them the search." - Natasha 23:43, 24 January 2012 (EST)
The point of having the "titles" section in the infobox is to list names that characters are called in-game by the other characters in game, and/or official positions that they hold in government/nobility positions. The ending titles are not a part of this. Logically, if one wanted to know the title given to a character in the ending, they would search in the ending section of the article. BrandedOne 23:46, 24 January 2012 (EST)
And logically, if one wanted to know the ages of characters that are siblings, they would search for a reference or a citation in the context of the article. But that's not always the case here, is it? Once again, the ending titles of characters are ever as much a part of the in-game story as any other titles. Titles such as "king" or "queen" for Ephraim and Eirika, respectively, are mentioned in the endings and support conversations. Why should they be excluded from the title(s) section of their characters' infoboxes? - Natasha 00:00, 25 January 2012 (EST)
That's a different situation though. There isn't a section of the article labeled "Family members". That kind of quick info is found in the infobox. There is a section for "Endings", which includes the so-called 'titles' that are given to every character as part of a heading for their ending. I can see where you're going with King and Queen for Ephraim and Eirika, but even then their title wouldn't be "Restoration King", it would be "King of Renais", with a note explaining that the title only applies after the game has ended. Headings like "Dutiful Rider", for Vanessa, are not titles by which the characters are known. They are headings for the endings, and not titles for the characters. It's quite the difference. BrandedOne 00:13, 25 January 2012 (EST)
On the contrary, these "headings" are titles for the characters - hence you have ones such as Gerik's "Desert Tiger" and Marisa's "Crimson Flash" mentioned both in-game and in the endings. Assuming the endings are considered part of the story as was mentioned above, then titles for other characters such as "Silver Knight" for Seth or "Restoration King" for Ephraim should follow suit, as these are titles by which the characters are known at the conclusion to the game's storyline. There is no difference if the title was mentioned during the game or at the end of the game - it's still a part of the game's entire story and should therefore be included as a title in the infobox by which the character is or was known. - Natasha 00:32, 25 January 2012 (EST)
Dear god this is a ton of colons... Anyways, the ending titles and the titles that are from in-game are not the same. The ones in-game refer to a position or their rank, such as the Obsidian for Duessel. He is referred to that in-game. On the other hand, the ending titles, such as Aria stated above, do not directly relate to the story, can have spoilers, and some do not even have ending titles, such as Pent or Louise in Blazing Sword. It is, in conclusion, a spot for their ranks in the government and/or military, or a name referred to in-game. Super (duh...)AlpacaFile:Doggie Mask.png 00:37, 25 January 2012 (EST)
We just established that the endings and their titles do relate to the story in some manner, including but not limited to plot, characters, support conversations, relationships, etc. And in-game encompasses the whole game, from beginning to middle to end. Titles such as "Restoration King," "Restoration Queen," "Silver Knight," etc. are indeed references to military and/or government positions at the game's endings. And I fail to see why these titles should be limited solely to those positions of power, when other ending titles are in themselves direct references to a particular character's background, personality, deeds, and/or relationships throughout the entire game's storyline. - Natasha 00:53, 25 January 2012 (EST)

Bye...

Since you guys are evidently not interested in hearing what other users have to say on this wiki, let me just say this.

When you purposely refuse to have any discussion on this or any other matter beyond your small private "Skype" chat group... when you revert people's contributions without first telling them why you are doing so... and when you don't even bother to let other people voice their own ideas or feedback before you start doing something that affects them or their work... All of these actions insinuate that what the administrators say and do is always right and that their decisions are irreversible.

And when you start to mandate new rules for everyone to follow, you don't first revert someone's edits to your liking and then try to change your own policies after the fact.

As a final response to BrandedOne's argument, it’s not a different situation. While there may not be a section titled "Family members" in the character articles as he says, there is the section titled "Personality and character," which lists the exact same kind of information on family sibling relationships and ages (for example, Forde and Franz; Innes and Tana; Vanessa and Syrene; etc.). Because of this, he says that such "quick info" should be placed in the character infobox template. And, likewise, if someone was looking for "quick info" on titles, then the "Ending" titles which have a section in the article should also be included in the character infoboxes. But apparently his logic doesn't work that way...

With no obvious willingness to collaborate with the people who actually take the time and effort to contribute to this site, it shows that the Fire Emblem Wiki is run by a group of overbearing administrators and bureaucrats who must dictate absolutely everything that happens here because they are the ones with the powers and privileges to enforce what they want and what they think is "necessary."

Is it any wonder why there are so few users here? No, because no one wants to contribute when their edits are just going to get reverted by admins who decide on unwritten rules behind closed doors and have no inclination to discuss such things with the rest of the community.

Good luck trying to run a successful site when you deliberately alienate your own user base from the collaborative work and decision-making that define what a wiki is supposed to be.

The Skype chat is not private. Also, the admins that voted on this were all the active members at the time. Super (duh...)AlpacaFile:Doggie Mask.png 16:34, 27 January 2012 (EST)
If that's the way that it looks around here... then we need to change that. I didn't know that this was the image that people have of our wiki... The Skype chat is open and public, and if you'd like to join, we'd be glad to have you. We're improving our policies because you've pointed out that they are unclear. We're making an effort to make editing more smooth and to prevent conflicts through better policy and help pages. We're not used to communicating with editors I think because we have so few editors with whom to communicate, and so perhaps it's a cruel cycle. I will say that it's hard to communicate effectively with someone who refuses to accept the other side of the argument, and I understand I can't say that without being a bit of a hypocrite, but the point still stands. One thing of note - anything that you submit to this wiki can be changed by anyone and everyone, as the disclaimer under the edit box states: "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." I'm sincerely sorry that you see our wiki in this unfortunate light, and I hope that other people who come here don't feel similarly. If you have suggestions about how we can improve the way the wiki is run, please tell us, we'd be glad to listen. BrandedOne 19:35, 27 January 2012 (EST)

IPs

Why does this wiki forbid IPs from editing? --34Krom43 16:35, 10 May 2012 (EDT)

Security reasons. Though we're experiencing lots of spam anyway... trying to get that sorted out... BrandedOne 16:47, 10 May 2012 (EDT)

With spam, that's going to be normal when you're developing. The other Fire Emblem Wiki suffered a lot of spam/vandalism as well during their early stages of development. As for the security reasons, I'm sure they must be major enough in order to block IPs. --34Krom43 17:09, 10 May 2012 (EDT)

Template:Cleanup

The wiki is not letting me create the page where the template belongs. Can you please create it, and copy the template I created in the sandbox so this wiki has a cleanup template? Thanks. --34Krom43 (talk) 05:51, 31 May 2012 (EDT)

First, I have to check whether we have one done already; if not, I'll move it. You'll have an answer this weekend, okay?
By the way, I see you worked on Marcia's and Makalov's pages. For more info on our templates and conventions, please read Project Characters. ~ Aria der Donau (talk) 18:44, 31 May 2012 (EDT)

Note

A bunch of poorly-named accounts have been named. I think somebody is spamming the User-creation log. --34Krom43 (talk) 15:55, 18 June 2012 (EDT)

It appears you ignored my previous post. Someone is creating spam accounts. This is the first time I have seen this. --34Krom43 (talk) 16:25, 25 June 2012 (EDT)
They're no longer creating userpages though, which is nice. All they're doing now is clogging the Recent Changes page. I'll bring this up in the Skype chat though. BrandedOne (talk) 21:44, 27 June 2012 (EDT)

Helping Out

Hi! It may seem weird for me to say something like this and all, but I would love to help out with picture files, templates, etc. and would like for you to help me out in finding out where to start! Thanks. Airconny (talk) 21:30, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

A question concerning creating pages

Greetings, I recently joined this Wiki in an attempt to improve anything related to Awakening, and am editing pages as I progress throughout the game. Since I plan on recruiting Gerome within the next couple of days, I wanted to create a page so that I could begin collecting information for said page immediately. However, I can't appear to create a whole new page - is this due to my new membership, or are admins the only ones authorized to create pages? Thank you for your time.
