Talk:Monk

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

Should we move information on Fates' Monk class to the Priest page?

(Firstly, this is the first time I've ever created a Discussion page, so please bear with me and let me know if there's any first-time formatting stuff I missed!)

While the Monk class in Fire Emblem Fates shares its English name with the Monk class that debuted in The Blazing Blade, it's quite clearly a variant of the staff-using Priest class, instead, much like the Shrine Maiden class is essentially a renamed Cleric. I realize there may be some name confusion, but it seems to me like the proper place to categorize Hoshidan Monks would be alongside the Priests of previous games, not Light Magic-slinging Monks. I disagree with merging classes based on function and not name because it sets bad precedents (e.g. should we move FE2 myrmidon to the Hero page even though Hero is a separate class?). Monk (Fates) would be fine by me, though, especially since Japanese name is different. —PikaSamus (talk) 19:54, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
I agree with Pikasamus and support Monk (Fates). Merging based on function isn't a terrible idea on the surface, but can quickly get very confusing/hard to standardize. L95 (talk) 18:20, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
