Capitals

Do we need so many capitals? Like Killing Edge, Weapon Triangle.. Article titles don't have to be capitalized like book titles, so we can have titles such as "Killing edge" or "Weapon triangle", as they're referred to in games after Rekka no Ken (the first worldwide game). They switched from listing "Iron Lance" to "Iron lance", and same with other weapons, although I think the weapon triangle was always lowercase. Seritinajii 05:06, 10 September 2010 (MDT)

If that's how they are called in RECENT games, then go ahead. :3 I have a habit of capitalizing them though. Yusei 08:59, 10 September 2010 (MDT)
: Okay, thanks for the clarification. :DSeritinajii 14:48, 10 September 2010 (MDT)

Character page default layout

What's the default layout for the character pages? This appears to be the current setup:

  • (Games the character has appeared in)
    • Starting stats and growth rates
  • Personality and character
    • Support conversations
  • Other appearances
  • Etymology
  • Trivia
  • Gallery

So do support conversations warrant a section of their own? Also, are we making pages for support conversations? And is there anything we're missing? I feel like we might be missing something. Maybe appearance? Seritinajii 05:15, 16 September 2010 (MDT)

That's just a basic layout I had made for right now. Supports get their own section too. Sorry for the confusion. You can pretty much fill out whatever you want. Yusei 08:59, 16 September 2010 (MDT)
Here's my draft, based on Eirika, Marth, and Joshua combined:
  • Heading (brief explanation)
  • (Games the character has appeared in)
    • Role (Role in the story. Personality & character --> Personality and character section.)
    • Starting stats and growth rates (Not "Stat Growths"; they're usually referred to just as growth rates.)
    • Promotion stat gains
      • (Promotion classes) (stat gains listed here!)

(Growth rates go in "Starting stats and growth rates"!)

  • Personality and character (Describe character's personality and the character xemself (history, heritage, family, etc)
  • Support conversations
    • Support increase rates
    • Support stat bonuses? (How can we get these?)
  • Endings (All endings!)
  • Other appearances (Stickers count!)
  • Etymology (of name.)
  • Trivia (Not too much.)
  • Gallery

What do you think? Is it a bit long? I'm not entirely sure about some of the section titles, like support increase rates. Seritinajii 20:04, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

Community Page

I was thinking of making community pages like Zelda Wiki. I was thinking for like a similar page to http://www.zeldawiki.org/Zelda_Wiki.org:Castle_Town and call it Ostia Square, after the largest territory in the Lycian League. Yusei 10:37, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

This sounds reasonable. I'm doing the same thing here, except, it's become more of a personal blog..... Tacopill 14:05, 18 September 2010 (MDT).
Sounds like a nice idea! Ostia Square is a nice name. Seritinajii 20:03, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

Endings

Where can we get these besides the wikia FE wiki? Seritinajii 19:10, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

http://serenesforest.net/ has a lot of info and so does http://www.feplanet.net . Yusei 19:12, 18 September 2010 (MDT)

Too Many Stubs

There are way too many pages with little or no information. I think, before we make any more pages, we should work on filling up the ones we already have. I'm going to go ahead and start with that, but I'm going to need help. Legend 09:55, 23 September 2010 (MDT)

Go ahead. That's why I made that list of them for now. So we know what classes are what, and what we need to add onto. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 12:12, 23 September 2010 (MDT)
To see the shortest through alphabetical order, you can also see this. It shows which ones are shortest by byte count. Turtwig A 14:56, 23 September 2010 (MDT)
I'd recommend deleting all the class stubs. I can't think of what reason they serve. If you want to have a list of classes, it might be a better idea to do a list page. Aveyn Knight 08:28, 5 October 2010 (MDT)

Stat templates

I've found out that there are a lot of varying stat values for different games that'll require different stat templates - some only have str or mag, some have both str and mag, some have affinities, some do/don't have con and aid, etc. It's rather confusing and so here's my proposal -

  • A template for FE6-8 (the current standard template) with Str only
  • A template for FE6-8 with Mag only
  • A template for FE9-10 with Str and Mag - both!
  • A template for FE11 with Str and Mag but no affinity, con, or aid.

I'm pretty sure that's how they'd work.. and I'm not sure about FE1-5 though. Help! Seritinajii 19:16, 28 September 2010 (MDT)

Naming Conventions

Before I do anything, I'd like some confirmation as to one facet of this wiki's conventions: on the matter of official English names for characters, where conflicts exist between versions, which are accepted - Nintendo of America's names (Caeda, Navarre, Archanea, Sentinel, Dheginsea, Kyza, Order Incarnate, etc.) or Nintendo of Europe's names (Shiida, Nabarl, Akaneia, Lancer, Deghinsea, Kysha, Goddess of Order, etc.)? Similarly, where official NoA/NoE names are unavailable like in Japan-only games, what's our source for Romanised names? If no precedent exists yet, I'd advise use of the NoA names in that arguably they're better known and thus more likely to be searched, and I've got a vague working-out as to what to do in the case of a lack of an official English name if anyone's interested, but that's just me. Anyway, thanks in advance. -Dlakii (Talk!) 00:59, 1 October 2010 (MDT)

I'm not exactly sure... although personally I prefer the Nintendo of America names, that doesn't really affect what the wiki should use. But I do agree with the fact that a lot of the NOA names are more used (except Archanea). I'm not sure about lack of English names, but aren't there names programmed in the code or something like that? Seritinajii 17:46, 1 October 2010 (MDT)

Being new to this wiki, I don't mean to be prying, but... in the case of games released only in Japan, we could follow the romanization given by this official page. --Aria der Donau 17:49, 3 October 2010 (MDT)
Sounds like a good idea. These are the official names, it appears. A lot of names were changed in English localizations (Coma -> Colm, Xyst (?!) -> Gerik, etc.), but since these haven't been changed to English we can stay with these names.

Classes

So, tell me about classes? Any information you have for me would be helpful, but if you need specifics, how about these:

  • What games do the classes appear in?
  • What classes can apply to which characters? (AND VISA-VERSA)
  • What stats are affected by the classes?
  • What weapons are able to be used by what classes?

Tacopill 09:07, 5 October 2010 (MDT).

The units (or characters) you receive or obtain in each game are classified in different classes, so each game has a wide variety. The classes determine what kind of weapon -among other things- the characters can use; for example, archers only use bows, while cavaliers use swords and lances. However, some classes only appear in some games (summoners are exclusive to Sacred Stones, the last GBA game) and weapons can change from game to game (paladins, or promoted cavaliers, can use lances and swords in Shadow Dragon, and these two weapons plus axes in GBA games.)
Gender determines some stats and a few classes. Example: pegasus knights are a female-exclusive class, while male physical units have a bigger strength cap.
Perhaps it would be better for you to start with one game at the time - otherwise, it can be very confusing. --Aria der Donau 16:29, 5 October 2010 (MDT)
Ok, i got "on me": Sealed Sword, Fire Emblem (U) and Sacred Stones (all GBA). Which one would be the easiest to dive into? Tacopill 17:23, 5 October 2010 (MDT).
Blazing Sword, by all means (the second option). It has a tutorial that explains the basics of FE. Besides, it doesn't have the branched promotion system of Sacred Stones and it's easier than Sword of Seals.

I have memorized the classes promotional chain for Sacred Stones as well as weapon use and I think I can do the same for it's predecessor Sealed Sword. Give me the weekend and i SHOULD be able to put the information in on the classes I know by heart... However I think it would be a good idea to create a template for exactly how you want the information organized so that we don't have a big job later when we realize that all the class pages have slightly different formats. The hardest part is what stats are affected. The extrapolation of the proper growth rate equation has yet to surface (there are small holes in the current theory) and how the stats are affected are NOT only dependent on the caps set by the game. Strategex 18:53, 5 October 2010 (MDT)

I have a sketch of a class page in my sandbox, but it's far from complete. Feel free to make any suggestion or modification (I have a backup file in my laptop). And on another note, perhaps we should take the class system explanation somewhere else, don't you think? Just to avoid taking too much space in this talk page (but I'm waiting to hear about those holes in the theory...) --Aria der Donau 20:12, 5 October 2010 (MDT)

Where do you want to move it? Post and I'm there. The holes in the theory aren't something I know super well but last I checked Aveyn Knight, author of www.serenesforest.net, was working on that. It has something to do with growth rates values equaling 0 yet still growing, not often, but still... It's interesting. Strategex 20:56, 5 October 2010 (MDT)

Blazing Sword is the easiest to get into?! thank you! i now no which game i should play. You see, i have never actually played an FE game. I am here to help Yusei (and anyone else who asks) with Wiki stuff. Tacopill 23:12, 5 October 2010 (MDT).
I've never heard of any holes or uncertainties in the growth rate equation. The growth rates you see are for all intents and purposes equal to an exact percentage chance. So a growth rate of 50(%) yields a 50% chance to increase a stat. All the info that you need on growth rates can be found here. The only occassion when the growth rate equation becomes sligthly complicated is in Template:FESD and to an extent in the very first three games, due to the RNG used. Perhaps you're confused by True Hit or average stats? Aveyn Knight 09:18, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

Thanks for the clear up. Sorry for the misinfo! Either way tacopill, the easiest game to play is Sacred Stones and is fairly easy to find at game stop but Blazing Sword is the easiest to understand the systems the games use and the basic premise of the games are throughout Blazing Sword and easy to spot. The hard part about it is it's more difficult to find. (Isn't this a template discussion?) Strategex 09:40, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

May it is *thinks*. Anyway. Thank you for the suggestions. Tacopill 15:47, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

Title templates

Does anyone have a full list of all the title templates, like "~~FEPR~~", with the ~'s replaced with { and }, gives "Template:FEPR"? Aveyn Knight 10:16, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

they are currently all listed under Category:Formatting_Templates. Tacopill 15:46, 6 October 2010 (MDT).

Chapters

How will we specify the Chapters and their overviews on the wiki? Are we going to specify by region or game or both? By location? -for example....

  • Chapter 1 Escape! (Sacred Stones/ Magvel)
  • Chapter 1 Escape! (Sacred Stones)
  • Chapter 1 Escape! (Magvel)

Strategex 17:16, 6 October 2010 (MDT)

I'm thinking just "Escape!" would be fine. If there's another game with that, it would be "Escape! (Sacred Stones)". I'd like to use the game. Seritinajii 20:11, 6 October 2010 (MDT)
Ok so my next concern is what is in those pages? Are there templates? Can we make some? Also I think we should use the Chapter number so that people don't have to remember the title of the chapter to find the info they're looking for. I think it would be better for the users if we identified the chapters with numbers. Strategex 22:41, 6 October 2010 (MDT)
Sorry for the extremely late response...ehehehe...

So I think using the chapter number would probably be a good idea. I think somebody made a chapter template...was it me? ...yes, it was! Template:Chapter. Although I think you probably know that. Seritinajii 19:10, 26 October 2010 (MDT)

Max stats

Some games, if not all, only have different sets of max stats for promoted classes, and non-promoted classes all have the same caps. On class pages, should we

  • a) list the non-promoted class caps, which may or may not be all the same (like in FE8)
  • b) list the promoted class caps, like Wight caps on the Bonewalker page
  • c) list both non-promoted caps and promoted caps on the same page, but not on the promoted class page

? Seritinajii 19:10, 26 October 2010 (MDT)

I vote for a). It may serve to see how much classes have changed since they were introduced to the series. ~ Aria der Donau 18:38, 1 November 2010 (MDT)
Agreed. "A" provides a base of information you can apply to every game in the series. A comparison of caps just seems very useful in several theoretical in game cases and scenarios. Strategex 20:53, 1 November 2010 (MDT)
Sure then, I'll go with A.

Just noticed this

Fire Emblem Wikia's information is... well good and bad at parts. It's REALLY hard to know exactly how to recruit a person, and what to do, what certain instances do you need to do, etc. Example is their Shinon page. "He rejoins the company grudgingly, under the persuasion of Rolf, but only after he is forced to admit that Ike has indeed become stronger than him". I found in a walkthrough that right after that you need to kill him with Ike to recruit him at the end of the chapter.

I'm hoping we can actually clearify some of the information compared to our Wikia counterpart. - Yusei  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 11:47, 3 November 2010 (MDT)

I've noticed this too. And at times, their information and standards are quite lacking. and also, I like our templates better. Just saying.(Yeah, rounded templates yaaay!) Seritinajii 18:29, 3 November 2010 (MDT)
