“ | I don't care. I don't trust either of you. I just wanted to tell you that to your face. | ” | — Takumi, to the Avatar and Azura |
---|
Takumi (Japanese: タクミ, Takumi) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates, he is a prince of Hoshido, and the younger step-brother of the Avatar. Like all other Hoshidian and Nohrian royalty, he possesses the power of Dragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.
Fire Emblem Fates
Role
Takumi is the Avatar's younger brother. When Rinkah and Kaze return the Avatar to Hoshido, Takumi makes it very clear that he does not trust them, and believes them to be spying on them for Nohr. After Mikoto's assassination, Takumi blames the Avatar for bringing the blade that killed her to Hoshido.
Birthright
If the Avatar sides with Hoshido, Takumi and Ryoma go missing shortly after they repel Xander's troops. The Avatar begins searching for him, and eventually discovers him brainwashed by something during the battle with the traitorous ninja clan of Mokushu. Azura returns him to his senses, and Takumi explains that the last thing he remembers is falling into the Bottomless Canyon. He then joins the party. When the group meets the Rainbow Sage, his Fujin Yumi lends its power to the Avatar's Yato and turns it into the Noble Yato. During the quest, repeated incidents of Nohrian forces having knowledge they should not possess lead Takumi to suspect there is a traitor in their group. Eventually, when the party reaches the capital of Nohr, the king's adviser Iago appears and forces Takumi, whose brainwashing relapses, to take Azura hostage. He reveals that Takumi was unknowingly the traitor. However, Takumi is able to overcome Iago and aid the Avatar in killing him and Garon.
Conquest
If the Avatar sides with Nohr, Takumi takes the Avatar's choice the hardest, denouncing them as a traitor. He and his siblings are driven back by Nohrian forces. He is next encountered along with his retainers Hinata and Oboro during the journey to Notre Sagresse, and the Avatar is forced to defend the port of Dia from his onslaught of troops. Takumi heads alone to Cheve to support the rebellion, and encounters the Avatar once again; during the battle, he ominously proclaims that he believes killing them will cause "the pain in [his] head" to go away.
After his defeat at Dia, he and the rest of the Hoshidan royalty are later invited to Izumo for a feast with the archduke Izana; however, the situation is a setup, and Izana has been abducted and impersonated by the Nohrian dark mage Zola. The Avatar and their siblings, who are also in Izumo by coincidence, refuse to allow Zola to violate Izumo's neutrality pact, and kill him and free Izana and the Hoshidan royalty. Takumi refuses to show any gratitude for this. Takumi and his retainers then retreat to the Great Wall of Suzanoh to defend Hoshido from the incoming Nohrian invasion, but they are defeated by the Avatar. Takumi, whose body begins to emit a dark aura, jumps off the wall. The Avatar is unable to locate his body and presumes he is still alive.
After the group defeats Garon in Mikoto's throne room, Takumi, now completely unhinged, attacks the Avatar and shatters the Yato. With the Avatar on the brink of death, the real Takumi's spirit appears to them along with Mikoto and Ryoma and explains that he has been dead for most of the war between Hoshido and Nohr; the creature battling the Avatar's companions is a puppet of his corpse fueled by his resentment of the Avatar. Takumi reconciles with the Avatar and gives them the power of the Fujin Yumi, asking them to destroy his body and allow him true peace. After the Avatar defeats him, s/he and Xander speculate as to what possessed him and Garon, but are unable to come to any conclusions.

Personality and character
Takumi is wary of others, and quick to be suspicious. Although he is slow to open up, he is extremely loyal to his close friends. Takumi also handles betrayal very poorly, and constantly calls a Nohr-aligned Avatar a traitor to their face. Throughout Conquest, his sanity continuously degrades as a result of his possession, and by the end of the game he has been reduced to a husk of his former self, completely obsessed with murdering the Avatar and all Nohrians to exact revenge for their betrayal. When the Avatar, on the brink of death, encounters Takumi's sane spirit, however, Takumi is willing to reconcile with them and trust them to save him and the world.
