Sophia
- Not to be confused with Sophie, a character from Fates; or Zofia, a country from Gaiden whose Japanese name is "Sofia".

|
“ | ...... I... This is me... Even the Dragon blood that flows in me... it is what makes me who I am... | ” | — Sophia to Niime in a support conversation. |
---|
Sophia (Japanese: ソフィーヤ Sofiya) is a half-dragon priestess from Nabata. Quiet in nature, she is gifted with the extraordinary ability to see into the future. During the Disturbance of Bern, she is captured and sent to a Bern dungeon, but is later rescued by Roy and his Lycian army. She also makes a cameo appearance in the prequel Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, and is a downloadable and playable character in Awakening.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
Sophia was born as a half-human, half-dragon in the hidden village of Arcadia located in the Nabata desert. This is because Sophia's father was human, while her mother was apparently a full-blooded Dragon.[2] Since she is half-dragon, she grows very slowly compared to an ordinary human, but she grows faster than a full-blooded dragon like Fae. She also has the gift of being able to see into the future, although even she does not know whether this is a result of her abnormal bloodline, or if it is simply phenomenon.[3] Nonetheless, she later gained the title as a Nabatan priestess, thanks to her superhuman talent.
During the war with Bern, Sophia is somehow captured by the soldiers of Bern, and is sent to the dungeon. Later, after Cecilia, the Mage General of Etruria, is horribly defeated by king Zephiel in a one-on-one duel, the wounded general is placed in the same prison cell as Sophia's. The priestess then tends to her wounds, and both prisoners are later broken out of the dungeon by Roy's army after defeating Flaer.
After being rescued and freed from the Bern dungeon, Sophia guides Roy and his army through the Nabata desert to get to her home village Arcadia. However, the village is already being attacked by Bern's troops, and Roy and his army have to stop the onslaught. Afterwards, in order to reach the bonus chapter after this battle, in addition to being required to finish the battle by 25 turns, Sophia must still be alive. In this bonus chapter, Chapter 14x, the player will be able to gain the Forblaze tome upon completion.
When the war finally comes to a close, there are two possibilities for Sophia's ending. If Sophia gains A support with Roy, they will both be married in Pherae, and they both would work together in the reconstruction of their fallen kingdom. On the other hand, if Sophia were to not be paired up with Roy, she will return to her home in Nabata. However, since no records of Nabata were ever kept after the war ceased, it would be unknown as to how Sophia lived her life afterwards.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Sophia is the second shaman recruited on Roy's team. Upon joining, players are quick to take note of one glaring flaw regarding her usability as a unit: all of her base stats are extremely low, stats that would not look out of place for a unit in the first few chapters of the game. Unfortunately for her, she joins around halfway through the story, at a point where every unit who has not already promoted is struggling to keep up. Every enemy on her join chapter can ORKO her (except the mages on Normal Mode, but she still takes heavy damage), and since it is also a fog of war chapter, they (especially the Wyvern Riders and Lords) can easily come out of nowhere and kill her. She is required to stay alive during her join chapter in order to obtain the Forblaze tome, and is the only one who can find the Guiding Ring in the desert.
As a shaman, Sophia can only use dark magic. Her very low base stats do not properly complement her magic specialty, making her usage of dark magic weak and even more inaccurate. She struggles when using even the basic Flux tome; with a low base skill of 2 points, she would have to be extremely lucky to even land any accurate hits. To exacerbate the problem further, her magic base is very low, meaning she will not be able to deal reliable damage even when she successfully lands a hit. She will get doubled very frequently due to her low speed; Flux has a weight of 5 points, weighing down her constitution of 3, meaning she will lose 2 points of speed; she even struggles against anima mages despite anima magic being weak against dark magic. This is not helped by the fact that both her resistance and speed are low enough for even anima mages to 1–2 round KO her.
Despite her significant flaws, she is not completely unsalvageable. After completing her join chapter, with careful planning, it is possible for her to secure killing blows on enemy units, ensuring that she will get huge amounts of experience. Furthermore, if she kills the boss unit(s) assigned for the current chapter, she will gain enough experience to guarantee a level up. Since almost all bosses do not move from the throne, she can safely attack them without fear of being counterattacked unless they are equipped with a 1–2 range weapon. If the player saved up on stat boosters throughout the game, they can be used to patch her stats just enough for her to be able to survive well on her own. She is notably one of only a few other units who makes good use of a Body Ring. However, even when used long term, she will have speed issues and durability issues (though not as bad as some units). She also competes with a lot of units for a promotion, and even the mediocre Raigh has a better claim than her due to better bases, more time to train up, and a higher level.
Overall, while it is possible to train Sophia to be a viable and competent dark magic user, doing so is very intensive and requires immense and significant investment, due to starting with very low base stats at level 1, unpromoted. Even then, training her in the first place is questionable at best, since she does not fulfill any niche another unit could fill with less investment.
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Role
Along with Fae, Sophia makes a cameo appearance in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, appearing in a ruin in Chapter 30 of Eliwood's route and Chapter 32 of Hector's route that any unit can visit. Sophia is apparently searching for Athos; she gives the visiting character a Talisman, and encourages them to defeat Nergal.[4] She can have a unique conversation with Hawkeye if he visits the ruins, where Hawkeye asks her to tell his daughter that he will return to Nabata.[5]
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Sophia is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Binding Blade character set. She also appears in Awakening's DLC as an enemy in Smash Brethren 2 and 3 and as an NPC in Smash Brethren 1.

Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
There are three different variations of Sophia available to Heroes, both of which are tied to her storyline appearance in The Binding Blade. The normal variation of Sophia is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch, and is also the first of twelve characters that are part of the game's Hero Battle rotation; she was first made available via Hero Battle at 7:00 AM UTC on February 2, 2017 (the game's launch date) through 6:59 AM UTC on Feburary 3, 2017, and her Hero Battle has been available during the same time period every twelve days thereafter. A Halloween-themed variation of Sophia was first added to the game as part of the Shared Bounty update, and was made available to players in the forty-sixth edition of the Tempest Trials+, as yet unnamed, which initially ran from October 7, 2021 through October 18, 2021. A bridal variation of Sophia was made available on May 20, 2022 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Bridal Blossoms update.
The normal variation of Sophia is one of a select few characters to have been inherently available at all five rarities, although inherent availability at five-star rarity has been limited to summoning focuses.

Personality
As a half-dragon girl who was kept hidden in the village of Arcadia for much of her life, Sophia has an enigmatic and somewhat distant personality, and sometimes comes across as emotionless. She is also not that talkative, and she retains a quiet and polite nature, if this is not merely shyness. She became companions with the Nabatan guardians Hawkeye and Igrene, and also good friends with the cheery Fae, who also has Dragon's blood in her. Although she has Draconian blood running through her veins, Sophia does not seem to know much about her own kind, as seen in her support conversations with the elderly Niime.[6] She also has the tendency of suddenly appearing in front of people, startling them unintentionally. This applies to any of the characters in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, or Raigh in their support conversation.[7] She has a habit of pausing a lot when she speaks, which appears to be a respiratory issue.
Aside from her enigmatic character, Sophia has been shown to be a very gentle, caring, and friendly individual. When the Mage General Cecilia was almost killed and heavily injured from her duel with Zephiel, Sophia treated her wounds in the dungeon. At one point, when she sensed a bad omen, she warned Roy to stay out of the front lines, adding to her cautious and caring nature.[8] Since she was secluded in her village Arcadia for a long time, she became fascinated by the outside world, and longs to learn more about it.[9] She, as stated earlier, is very good friends with Fae, and does act as sort of an older-sister figure to her (Although Fae ironically is much older than Sophia). At the end of their A support, the two promise each other that they will always be friends.[10] Even with Raigh, despite his cold personality, she gave him an extremely rare Dark magic tome,[11] seeing the good in his heart. Afterwards, it can be assumed that they become very close friends.[12]

Trivia
- Sophia is the only playable female Shaman in the Fire Emblem GBA games (Hannah is also a Shaman, but not playable). She is also one of the only two playable female Druids, along with Niime; the only other female druids in the GBA games are unnamed enemies in Hector Hard Mode's version of Cog of Destiny.
- Sophia's portrait in The Blazing Blade uses more washed-out colors than in The Binding Blade; this is unlike Fae, whose portrait uses the same colors in both games.
