...... I... This is me... Even the Dragon blood that flows in me... it is what makes me who I am...
— Sophia to Niime in a support conversation.

Sophia (ソフィーヤ Sofiya) is a half-Dragon priestess from Nabata. Quiet in nature, she is gifted with the extraordinary ability to see into the future. During the Disturbance of Bern, she is captured and sent to a Bernite dungeon, but is later rescued by Roy and his Lycian army. She also makes a cameo appearance in the prequel Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, and is a downloadable and playable character in Awakening.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

Sophia was born as a half-human, half-Dragon in the hidden village of Arcadia located in the Nabata desert. This is because Sophia's father was human, while her mother was apparently a full-blooded Dragon.[1] Since she is half-Dragon, she grows very slowly compared to an ordinary human, but she grows faster than a full-blooded dragon like Fae. She also has the gift of being able to see into the future, although even she does not know whether this is a result of her abnormal bloodline, or if it is simply phenomenon.[2] Nonetheless, she later gained the title as a Nabatan priestess, thanks to her superhuman talent.

During the war with Bern, Sophia is somehow captured by the soldiers of Bern, and is sent to the dungeon. Later, after Cecilia, the Mage General of Etruria, is horribly defeated by king Zephiel in a one-on-one duel, the wounded general is placed in the same prison cell as Sophia's. The priestess then tends to her wounds, and both prisoners are later broken out of the dungeon by Roy's army after defeating Flaer.

After being rescued and freed from the Bernite dungeon, Sophia guides Roy and his army through the Nabata desert to get to her home village Arcadia. However, the village is already being attacked by Bern's troops, and Roy and his army have to stop the onslaught. Afterwards, in order to reach the bonus chapter after this battle, in addition to being required to finish the battle by 25 turns, Sophia must still be alive. In this bonus chapter, Chapter 14x, the player will be able to gain the Forblaze tome upon completion.

When the war finally comes to a close, there are two possibilities for Sophia's ending. If Sophia gains A support with Roy, they will both be married in Pherae, and they both would work together in the reconstruction of their fallen kingdom. On the other hand, if Sophia were to not be paired up with Roy, she will return to her home in Nabata. However, since no records of Nabata were ever kept after the war ceased, it would be unknown as to how Sophia lived her life afterwards.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

Along with Fae, Sophia can make a cameo appearance in Blazing Sword. On Chapter 30 of Eliwood's route and Chapter 32 of Hector's route, any member in your army can talk to her in the most south-eastern ruins. Some of them will have different conversations with her, including the three lords Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector, while others will have the same conversations as one another. Either way, the character that talks to her will be frightened by her sudden appearance; even the almost emotionless characters such as Jaffar show surprise upon seeing her[3], and especially (and amusingly) the loud-mouthed cleric Serra.[4] Sophia is apparently searching for the Archsage Athos, but she is informed by any person from the army that talks to her that he is really not with them. She then will give the character a Talisman, encouraging him or her that they need to do their best to defeat Nergal and save the world from darkness.[5]

On the other hand, if Hawkeye talks to her, there will be a much different conversation than the others. It is revealed that Sophia and Hawkeye already know each other, because they both come from Nabata. After Sophia asks whether Athos is with Hawkeye's group or not and giving him the Talisman, the berserker asks Sophia for a favor as well. When Sophia meets with Igrene, his daughter, later on, he wants her to tell her that he will return to her soon. Sophia submits to this request, and the conversation ends.[6]

Of unusual note is that in her appearance in Blazing Sword, while Sophia does use her old mug from The Binding Blade, the colouring of her sprite looks relatively washed-out, with dimmer colours and slight pink tinge applied; while Fae's sprite is also reused, her's retains its original colours. The reason for Sophia's changing mug is not known; a common theory claims that the Sophia seen on the Dread Isle is actually a projection of some sort, which would also explain why her appearance shocks characters.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Sophia is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Binding Blade character set. She also appears as an enemy in two downloadable content chapters and as an NPC in a further one DLC chapter, all in the Smash Brethren chapter series.

Personality and character

As a half-Draconian girl who was kept hidden in the village of Arcadia for much of her life, Sophia has an enigmatic and somewhat distant personality, and sometimes comes across as emotionless. She is also not that talkative, and she retains a quiet and polite nature, if this is not merely shyness. She became companions with the Nabatan guardians Hawkeye and Igrene, and also good friends with the cheery Fae, who also has Dragon's blood in her. Although she has Draconian blood running through her veins, Sophia does not seem to know much about her own kind, as seen in her support conversations with the elderly Niime.[7] She also has the tendency of suddenly appearing in front of people, startling them unintentionally. This applies to any of the characters in Blazing Sword, or Raigh in their support conversation.[8] Prior to her shyness, she has a habit of pausing a lot when she speaks, which emphasizes her mysterious personality.

Aside from her enigmatic character, Sophia has been shown to be a very gentle, caring, and friendly individual. When the Mage General Cecilia was almost killed and heavily injured from her duel with Zephiel, Sophia treated her wounds in the dungeon. At one point, when she sensed a bad omen, she warned Roy to stay out of the front lines, adding to her cautious and caring nature.[9] Since she was secluded in her village Arcadia for a long time, she became fascinated by the outside world, and longs to learn more about it.[10] She, as stated earlier, is very good friends with Fae, and does act as sort of an older-sister figure to her (Although Fae ironically is much older than Sophia). At the end of their A support, the two promise each other that they will always be friends.[11] Even with Raigh, despite his cold personality, she gave him an extremely rare Dark magic tome,[12] seeing the good in his heart. Afterwards, it can be assumed that they become very close friends.[13]
