— Selena

Selena (Japanese: セライナ, Celina) is a character in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She is one of Grado's Imperial Three, having been promoted many years ago when Valter was stripped of the title, and is one of Vigarde's most loyal supporters. While she appears as a boss in the main story, she can be recruited as a special character in the game's Creature Campaign feature.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Selena, being a loyal general of Grado, is an enemy of Ephraim and Eirika.

Her first appearance is in Chapter 2: The Protected, she is in Ide warning the villagers to lock their doors due to bandit activity. If Eirika happens to visit the village, Selena does not recognize her, and pays her with a red gem to chase off the bandits after Eirika claims to be a mercenary for hire.[1] Selena appears again after Chapter 8: It's a Trap! at the Tower of Valni with Caellach, they wipe out the majority of the Frelian guard and destroy Frelia's Sacred Stone. After the successful mission the two retreat to Grado. If Eirika's route is chosen later on in the game, these are Selena's only in-person appearances in the game.

In Ephraim's route Selena appears, chasing down a fellow member of the Imperial Three, Duessel, on orders from Vigarde. However, Valter diverts her attentions by giving her a message from Vigarde, the emperor wants her back at Grado Keep, as she has been deemed untrustworthy. Selena appears again later in Ephraim's route, she is the boss of chapter 13. Myrrh approaches her, intending to ask Selena to return her Dragonstone, and tells Selena about the darkness festering in Grado Keep. While she does not return Myrrh's Dragonstone, Selena does allow her to go back to Ephraim before the looming battle begins. She refuses to back down despite realizing her emperor is probably not the man she swore to serve[2] and is killed by Ephraim's forces.

In the Creature Campaign Selena can be recruited as a bonus unit. In this appearance, and like all other Creature Campaign characters, she has no dialogue or support conversations with other characters.

Personality and character

Selena was born in a lowly backwater village in Grado. During a time of hardship, emperor Vigarde sent supplies to the village, Selena was shocked by the emperor's gifts; her village wasn't even able to pay its taxes.[3] The emperor's kindness is what inspired her entrance into Grado's knighthood.[4]

Selena's kindness did not dull after becoming one of the Imperial Three, desiring to help even Renais citizens in their times of peril during the war. Her kindness has also won the love of Grado citizens.[5] She is very dedicated, perhaps too dedicated, her dedication leading to her death in the War of the Stones, serving an emperor that had long been dead himself.
