The Phantom (Japanese: 亡霊戦士 Phantom Fighter) is a special monster class that appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Phantoms are spawned by using the Summon skill, learned by units of the Summoner and Necromancer classes. In combat, they act as temporary humanoid warriors summoned by dark magic. Each Summoner or Necromancer can only summon one a time; however, if there are multiple Summoners and/or Necromancers in the battle, each can summon one. When a Phantom comes into battle, they have the same level as the unit who summoned them.

Phantoms use axes, only have one hit point, and always have zero defense and resistance. However, if Barrier is used, their resistance does increase slightly. They appear holding a randomly selected axe. They are very limited in their ability to interact with other allied units: they cannot trade and they cannot rescue or be rescued, although staves and dances can be used on them, and they can take and drop rescued allies. Generally, their low stats give them very little fighting power, and they die in one hit if the enemy does not miss. Therefore, they are usually used to bait or manipulate enemies, as the AI will always attack a unit if it can kill it, or slightly weaken opponents. They cannot change class in any way.

Three playable units are able to summon Phantoms: Ewan, if he is promoted to Shaman and then Summoner; Knoll, if he is promoted to Summoner; and Lyon, who becomes usable during the post-game Creature Campaign. There are no enemy Summoners and Lyon will not use Summon in his appearances as an enemy, so there are no enemy Phantoms.
