The Pegasus Knight (Japanese: ペガサスナイト Pegasus Knight) is a flying, pegasus-mounted class which debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and has appeared in every Fire Emblem series game to date; it is replaced in the standard gameplay of Fates by the otherwise identical Sky Knight class, but the Pegasus Knight class itself is available via promotional downloadable content. In almost all of its appearances, it is a basic class which promotes to the Falcon Knight in most cases; the exceptions are Thracia 776, in which it is instead an advanced class, and Fates, where (like all other DLC-exclusive classes) it is a special class capable of reaching level 40. In all appearances they wield lances, except when dismounted in Thracia 776.

Among basic classes, Pegasus Knights are rather frail and somewhat lacking in HP, strength and defense, but compensate for it with unusually high resistance for a physical unit, high speed and skill, and excellent mobility unhindered by terrain penalties. As the archetypical flying unit, they like all others possess a distinct vulnerability to bows and, depending on the game, some or all wind magic tomes. While in general risky to use for these shortcomings, Pegasus Knights will typically overcome their statistical flaws with levelling and prove to be rewarding to use; they are particularly efficient at combating magic-wielding units with their high resistance, and at rescuing allied units quickly.

In Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights instead promoted to Dracoknights; the Falcon Knight was introduced in Gaiden and became the Pegasus Knight's standard class changed form from Genealogy of the Holy War onward. Other class change options have existed for Pegasus Knights throughout the series: The Sacred Stones gave them an alternative promotion choice with the Wyvern Knight, as did Awakening with the Dark Flier. In the remakes Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights can promote to either Falcoknight or Dracoknight depending on the class change item used, with Dracoknight being more common. In Thracia 776, the Pegasus Knight functions as the promoted form of the Pegasus Rider instead. In two games they have the ability to dismount: in Mystery of the Emblem they become Knights when dismounted, and in Thracia 776 they merely become a dismounted version of themselves; in both cases, they are forced to use only swords while dismounted.

Trivia

  • The Pegasus Knight is one of only three classes present in every game in the Fire Emblem series, the others being the Fighter and the Sniper. Unlike the Fighter or the Sniper, however, the Pegasus Knight needed the aid of downloadable content in Fates to achieve this status.
    • However, a very similar class appears in Fates, known as a Sky Knight.
  • According to Subaki, he states that the Sky Knights' pegasi is a different breed to the pegasi shown in the previous games in the series. Selena says that the previous pegasi needed only a maiden with a pure heart can tame them, while Subaki says that the Sky Knights and the falicorns of Nohr can be tamed by male units.
