Myrmidon

The Myrmidon class (ソードファイタ or 剣士, both meaning "swordfighter") is a sword-wielding class present in Fire Emblem. Their first appearance was in Template:FEG; the only games where they do not exist are Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, and Fire Emblem Fates; however, the remakes of the former two games do contain myrmidons, and the latter features the functionally-identical Samurai class.
The class originated as a derivative of the Mercenary class based on the stat array of Navarre, whose fragile speed-oriented build was a significant difference from every other Mercenary in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and set a trend for other mercenaries of a similar build. The Swordfighter class of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 was something of a functional middle ground between the two classes; most of its members leaned toward the traditional Mercenary build, while many others like Ayra continued the fragile speed mold set by Navarre; this was epitomized by the promoted classes available to units on both sides of the stat split: the Forrest and the Swordmaster. The full-fledged separate Myrmidon class as it's known today, with its specific stat array, debuted in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and has appeared in every game since, completely replacing the Mercenary line in the Tellius games.
Their initial strength and defense are lower than those of mercenaries. To counter this, myrmidons focus more in skill and speed, making critical hits their trademark; in some games, there are unique swords with higher critical rate (such as the Wo Dao and the Shamshir) that can be wielded only by this class and its promotions.
Myrmidons, in most games, can be promoted to swordmasters. Special cases are seen in Gaiden, The Sacred Stones, and Awakening; in the former, myrmidons are a second-tier class and can be promoted to dread fighters, while in the latter two they can be promoted either to swordmasters or assassins. Other options are seen in the Jugdral games; specific characters can be promoted to forrests in Template:FESK, and to mercenaries in Template:T776.
In the Elibe, Magvel and Jugdral games, myrmidons were in general strongly associated with a particular region of the continents (Sacae, Jehanna and Isaach respectively) and almost all units of the class are from these places. In Tellius and Archanea, however, they can come from any land.
