— Lugh when deciding to go after Chad.

Lugh (ルゥ, Ruu) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. He first appears in Chapter 3.

He comes from an orphanage in Araphen, where he grew up with his twin brother Raigh and Chad, who became his best friend. He is the son of Nino and, possibly, Erk or Jaffar.

In Fire Emblem Awakening, Lugh returns as an extra playable character, and he also makes an appearance in some of the DLC chapters.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

Lugh is a Lycian child who lost his parents at the age of four. He and his twin brother ended up in an orphanage in Araphen, where they meet Chad. Lugh striked a fast friendship with him. At some point before the game's events, Lugh discovered he could use magic.[1]

Lugh's life changed completely when Bern attacked Araphen Castle. The orphanage where he lived was destroyed, and the father who cared for them was killed for trying to defend their small garden.[2] Lugh was too shocked to do something else than protecting the younger children, and so, he did not realized Chad was missing until it was too late.

After making sure the children went under the Elimine Church's protection, Lugh decides to follow Chad and join him in his quest for revenge. When he finally catches up with his friend, Chad tries to send him back with the others, to what Lugh absolutely refuses. Some protests later, Chad accepts his company, and they join Roy's army for the rest of the war.

In the Western Isles, Lugh finally finds his missing brother, and after some prodding, he manages to convince Raigh of joining the Lycian Army.

Once Bern is defeated and the war is over, Lugh founds a magic school for orphans in the same place where the orphanage was. Over the years, many of the students from his school would become famous and powerful sages.

Personality and character

Lugh is a kind and optimistic child. He likes to help the other members of the army as much as possible, even if it is just by running errands or sharing food. He also tries his best to keep people in good spirits. Whenever one of his comrades is in danger, he does not hesitate to leave what he is doing and go to help them.[3] He becomes anxious at the mere idea of seeing them hurt[4] or being separated from them;[5] this could be a result of the traumatic experiences he went through in Araphen.

Family is very important for Lugh, and it is something that goes beyond blood bonds, as he considers Chad to be his brother.[6] He was truly worried about Raigh's sudden disappearance, feeling he was a burden to his brother.[7] Although he doubts his own worth in battle, he keeps fighting for what he believes in, stating he does not want to just be protected.[8] He tends to think the best of people,[9] but seems to have trouble understanding others' indirect actions or intentions.[10]

Awakening

Lugh cannot support with any character in this game.

Endings

Lugh, Child of Anima
Short: Built a magic school for orphans.

Long: Lugh built a small magic school where the orphanage used to be. He took in orphans and other deprived children and taught them magic as a way to live. Many powerful magicians who left their name in history can have their roots traced back to that school.

  2. "Chad: ...... ...Father...the Father of our orphanage...he died. Bern's soldiers...they came one day. We had a little garden where we grew food. The soldiers...they trampled on it with their horses because... They said that it was in the way of their path. It was a tiny garden with really nothing more than roots, but..." — Elen and Chad's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  3. "Lugh: Miss Elen!
    Elen: Lugh? What's wrong?
Lugh: I-I thought I saw an enemy near you, so... Phew... But I guess I was wrong. Thank goodness.
" — Elen and Lugh's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  4. "Hugh: Oh, I got hit in that last fight. Don't worry about, it's not a big deal.
Lugh: Yes it is! You're not just going to leave such a bad wound alone... If you die, it's all over, you know.
Hugh: Lugh? You look a little pale, too...
Lugh: ...I've suffered enough times already from losing people close to me. ...I will treat that wound.
" — Lugh and Hugh's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  5. "Lugh: Raigh!
    Raigh: ...What?
Lugh: No, I was just wondering if you're doing all right.
Raigh: What do you mean, all right?
Lugh: I was worried if you were still here or not. You know...the first time you left, you just left a note and suddenly disappeared. I was worried that you might just walk off again without saying anything...
" — Lugh and Raigh's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  6. "Lugh: Then what?
Chad: How can I say this... You have a twin brother, Raigh, right? So I kinda felt that even if we three were together, I would be sort of left out.
Lugh: What's that supposed to mean! I always thought of you as family, just as much as Raigh!
" — Chad and Lugh's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  7. "Lugh: Your note said, 'I want to train my Dark magic skills on my own.' Was I...in the way? You didn't want me around...?" — Lugh and Raigh's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  8. "Chad: Lugh, don't force yourself. You can't hurt people, can you?
    Lugh: But...
Chad: I'm going to avenge Father. Lugh, you should stay with the others.
Lugh: I'm not going to hide anymore! Everyone, everyone just disappears when I'm not looking! Father, you, even Raigh... I want to fight to protect the people that I care for. I want to protect and not be just protected!
" — Chapter 3, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  9. "Lugh: [...] Oh, one more thing. You should at least respond when you're spoken to! With me it's fine, but you shouldn't act like that with strangers. People are going misjudge you for being antisocial or something.
Raigh: Misjudge, huh? ...Yeah, whatever. My good ol' brother seems to be as naive as ever.
" — Lugh and Raigh's C support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  10. "Chad: I didn't steal it, all right? The other day I came across an old lady who lost her key, so I helped her out. She gave me the shoes.
Lugh: Then why don't you wear them? She gave them to you, not me.
Chad: No, it's all right. My shoes aren't as beat up as yours, and besides, they're a little small for me anyway.
Lugh: But we're about the same height. If they're small for you, they would be small on me, too.
" — Chad and Lugh's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
