If you go north, look for a hamlet in the Lost Woods. The Great Sage Hark who lives there ought to help you somehow.

(Japanese: まよいのもり Lost Woods) is a dense forest found in the north-east of Rigel.

History

Celica, the princess of Zofia, visited the Lost Woods during her mission to find the missing Earth Mother Mila, entering them through a hidden passage in the sorcerer Dolk's fortress. Following the advice of a priestess at the Temple of Mila, she found the Sage's Hamlet and consulted with Hark, the Great Sage who lived there, who directed her to the Tower of Duma to find the sword that sealed Mila. At her request he also blessed her friend Alm with new power.[1] She also talked with a resident of the village who tried to tell her the way to fight Juda, but a curse laid on him killed him before he could tell her everything.[2]

Notable locations in the Lost Woods

Sage's Hamlet

The Sage's Hamlet (Japanese: 賢者の里 Sage's Village) is a hidden village which can be reached only through traveling through the Lost Woods. It is largely inhabited by Sages, including the Great Sage Hark, who fled there after being betrayed by Juda.[3]

The Sage's Hamlet still exists in the era of Ylisse and Valm, or at least there exists a village by the same name in roughly the same location. Chrom of Ylisse fought a battle here against the treasure-hunter Gecko, who was seeking a treasure said to be hidden in the Hamlet.

Gameplay

In Fire Emblem Gaiden

The Lost Woods appears as a major dungeon in Celica's part of Chapter 4, and is accessed after clearing Dolk's Fort and entering a pit in its back room. The primary goal is to navigate through it to exit into the north of Rigel to Duma's Gate, but several other goals are available for those who explore it. Three chests are found in the Lost Woods, each guarded by a skirmish, with these chests containing the only Silver Sword, Silver Lance and Silver Bow in the game; in addition, one of the skirmishes is full of Entombed, making it a decent place to grind for experience. There is also a Mila statue in the south-east, allowing units to promote.

Near the western exit to Duma's Gate, there is also a northern exit to the Sage's Hamlet. Visiting here is necessary in order to promote Alm, and the player also receives a hint for how to fight Juda later in the game.

Some parts of the Lost Woods contain exits that do not connect to any actual part of the path, and instead lead to what is called a "lost square". Lost squares all look the same, with four exits, do not go anywhere and continuing through them will only get Celica lost in more lost squares, meaning that Celica must go back the way she came to get back on the actual path. On the map below, any exit not noted as connecting to anything leads to a lost square.

In Fire Emblem Awakening

The Sage's Hamlet is the setting of Paralogue 5, where Chrom's army fights off a bandit raid and recruits Owain. After clearing the paralogue, its armory becomes accessible on the world map and skirmishes can be fought here.
