It has been proposed that this page be moved to Invisible Ties (premonition). Please move this page, or discuss this change on the talk page or on Discord. Reason: The name given in the game is actually Invisible Ties, not Threads. |
- Not to be confused with Invisible Ties, another Awakening chapter with a similar title.

Invisible Threads is the premonition chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. This chapter introduces two of the game's main characters as they take on a sorcerer. Basic mechanics are introduced in this chapter.
Plot

Invisible Threads/Script
(Cutscene: "Fated Clash") From a first-person viewpoint, someone sees a nobleman charging toward a sorcerer, the pair engaged in battle. Neither appear to have the upper hand. As the nobleman and the sorcerer duel, the person whose eyes we're looking through charges yellow magic in their left hand. Leaving the first-person viewpoint, we then see the sorcerer jump out of the way, then lands a blow on the nobleman upon coming back down. The sorcerer then starts to charge his own magic and aims it at the nobleman. As the sorcerer's magic flies toward the nobleman, the person whose eyes were previously being seen through launches their own magic at the sorcerer's magic, nullifying the blow.
Once the cutscene ends, the nobleman (whose name is revealed to be Chrom) and the yellow mage (whose name is revealed to be the one inputted by the player for their Avatar) are preparing for what appears to be a final battle. Chrom tells the Avatar that he/she is one of "them", something no destiny can change, before vowing to kill the sorcerer and be done with it.
At this point, Chrom tells the Avatar that they should move closer to the sorcerer. The player gains control at this phase, and at this point can reveal the sorcerer's name to be Validar. Chrom and the Avatar eventually move close enough to Validar to engage in another battle. Once in battle, Validar claims that Chrom and the Avatar cannot unwrite what has already been written. Chrom and the Avatar eventually defeat Validar.
(Cutscene: "Fated Clash II") As another cutscene begins, we watch as Validar collapses in a dark aura. Afterwards, the viewpoint returns to first-person view, the Avatar and Chrom look at each other, before Validar swears that things aren't over. Validar takes one last magical shot at Chrom, the hit of which the Avatar takes. As Chrom congratulates the Avatar on a job well done, the Avatar suddenly starts seeing red flashes and having erratic movements. Within this daze, the Avatar attacks Chrom, dealing what appears to be a fatal blow. The Avatar comes back to his/her senses, surprised to see thunder coursing through his/her hand. Chrom states that his wound is not the Avatar's fault, and asks the Avatar to promise him that he/she will escape the area. Chrom asks the Avatar to leave before he collapses. Validar's evil laugh is heard as the chapter fades out.
Summary
In a vision that feels neither real nor dreamed, <Avatar> and Chrom defeat the mage Validar. But in the vision's last moments, events take an unexpected turn.

The chapter's map is 25 columns by 25 rows; a barrier, however, prevents the use of any area of the map below row 9 regardless of column (this includes two special tiles on row 17 as detailed below). It is unknown why this map is far larger than necessary.
Character data
The player will have access to two units in this chapter, Chrom and the Avatar. Both have setups used only in this chapter; they do not take on their default setups until the next chapter. The weapons used in this chapter are not retained afterward.
Chrom Avatar
Item data
There are no items obtained in this chapter.
Shop data
There is no shop in this chapter.
Event tiles
- Column 7, row 17: On a stairs tile within the left grouping of pillars.
- Column 19, row 17: On a stairs tile within the right grouping of pillars.
As a barrier prohibits the player from moving either Chrom or the Avatar onto or below row 10 regardless of column, these two event tiles are inaccessible to the player.

- Note: Normal and Hard modes set up exactly as above. Lunatic and Lunatic+ modes vary only in Validar's tome rank, which is A in those difficulties.

Trivia
- This chapter is the only chapter in the game that does not have a designated location on the world map; as a result, this chapter is one of only two in the vanilla Awakening game whose map cannot host a skirmish (however, a later chapter uses the same map and can be used for skirmishes), the other being the final chapter, in the latter's case due to always being accessible once unlocked.
- This chapter is also one of two chapters in the vanilla Awakening game that does not have a shop associated with it, again the other being the final chapter.
- This chapter is the fourth initial chapter of a story in the Fire Emblem series whose boss is of an advanced class. The others are chapter 1 of Gaiden, chapter 1 of Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, and prologue 1 of New Mystery of the Emblem.
- It is also the first initial chapter of a story in the series whose boss is a magic-oriented unit.
- This chapter's Japanese and prerelease fan titles are the same as those of chapter 23. Interestingly, that chapter is the one this chapter's events are foreshadowing.
