Gunter (Japanese: ギュンター, Gunther) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. He is a great knight well versed in battle. He serves the Avatar, and also tutored the Avatar in combat.
Fire Emblem Fates
Role
Gunter is the Avatar's fighting instructor, and accompanies the Avatar if they side with Nohr or neither nation.
Before the route choice Gunter is attacked by Ganz and falls down a chasm from which no one returns.
On the Nohr route Azura recovers Gunter from an unseen realm, Gunter stays by the Avatar's side for the rest of the campagin.
If the Avatar sides with neither kingdom Gunter is also recovered from the Invisible Kingdom, however, it is revealed that he is under the control of Anankos, serving as a sleeper agent during the Avatar's travels. He is responsible for the death of Crimson. After this is revealed the Avatar confronts him and Gunter breaks free of Anankos' control.
Gunter is absent and presumably never rescued if the Avatar chooses to side with Hoshido.
