The Falcon Knight (Japanese: ファルコンナイト Falcon Knight), alternatively spelled Falcoknight or Falconknight in certain games, is an advanced, pegasus-mounted flying class which debuted in Fire Emblem Gaiden. In all of its appearances, it is either one of or the only promoted form of the Pegasus Knight; in the Archanea games, in which the Falcon Knight either does not exist at all or is downplayed, the Dracoknight is instead the primary promotion option for Pegasus Knights. In Radiant Dawn, Falcon Knights can in turn promote to the third-tier Seraph Knight. In Fates, Falcon Knights promote from Sky Knights, the Hoshidan counterpart of Pegasus Knights.

Falcon Knights are for the most part defined by their high speed, movement and resistance. They typically have by far the highest resistance stat of any physically-oriented class, which with their speed makes them particularly efficient at killing enemy magic-wielding units. While not possessing the raw strength of their fellow advanced flying class, the Wyvern Lord, they compensate for it with their swiftness. As flying units, not only do they possess high movement but they are also completely unaffected by terrain movement penalties.

However, Falcon Knights are also frail units with low HP and defense and, like all flying units, are vulnerable to bows and - depending on the game - wind magic tomes. Additionally, just as they do not have to worry about movement costs from terrain, they also cannot take advantage of the defensive benefits awarded by some terrain types to patch up their shaky defense. In all of their appearances, they primarily lances, but are also capable of wielding swords and staves depending on the individual game.

Trivia

  • Since Shadow Dragon is a remake of a game in which Falcoknights did not exist, there are no enemy Falcoknights and the option to promote Pegasus Knights into them is extremely limited, as the Elysian Whip was available only through the online shop; as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is discontinued, it is impossible to obtain an Elysian Whip without cheating on a physical copy, though copies of Shadow Dragon bought on the Virtual Console can access the online shop. New Mystery of the Emblem rectified this by providing obtainable Elysian Whips in the course of the main story and by adding several enemy Falcoknights.
  • In Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, the Falcon Knight's usual role as the advanced pegasus class is filled by the Pegasus Knight itself, with the Pegasus Rider acting as the unpromoted pegasus class. There are still unused leftovers for the Falcon Knight in the game.
