Fae (Japanese: ファ Fa) is a divine dragon manakete residing in Arcadia, and one of the last surviving pure-blooded dragons in Elibe.

Biography

Fae is the only pure dragon to still be living in Arcadia as of the modern Elibe era, although half-bloods such as Sophia do reside there as well. As with all Arcadian citizens, she was restricted for most of her life from visiting or having any contact with the world outside Nabata,[1] although in her case the ban was particularly emphatic owing to her dragon nature.[2]

In the year 980, during Eliwood, Hector and Lyn's expedition into the Nabata desert in search of "the living legend", Fae was looking after a small house near the desert border. She passed on to Eliwood's group news that treasure could be found in the desert by sifting near the bones, having also told Pent this earlier.[3]

During the Disturbance of Bern, when Bern's attempted to invade Arcadia, Fae went into hiding with Igrene until Roy cleared away the invasion, whereupon she emerged and met Roy. When Roy's army left Arcadia to continue the war in Etruria, Fae wished to go with them but was forbidden from doing so by the elder. Nonetheless, she snuck out on her own and was captured by an Etrurian Revolutionaries detachment led by Bern, at a castle on the Etrurian border. She was rescued when Roy learned of her escape and led an assault on the castle. Roy chose to let Fae remain with his army, instead of possibly risking her being caught again on her way back to Arcadia, and she fought in the war.

In the late stages of the war, she learned of Idenn's history and feared that she herself would become an enemy to humans as well, but with Roy's encouragement she fought Idenn with the hope of helping her. After the war, when Idenn was taken back to Arcadia in an attempt to restore her soul, Fae played with her daily to try and get her acting normally or showing some sign of emotion again.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

If she is still alive at the time, Fae is a mandatory unit in Chapter 24 and the Final Chapter. Her survival at the end of the game is one of the criteria to obtain the game's best ending, along with having Roy use the Binding Blade to kill Idenn.

Role

Fae makes a cameo appearance in the house in Chapter 22E/23H, where she is house-sitting. She has a unique conversation with Hawkeye if he visits the house.

Personality and character

Despite being several hundred years old already, Fae is in practice little more than a young child. Having spent most of her life locked indoors in Arcadia, she loves playing in and exploring the outside world and takes an interest in almost everything she sees; she has a particular interest in things she finds pretty, such as Elphin's hair[4] and butterflies.[5] She has trouble listening to orders given to her, finding them to be "no fun" no matter how important they are.[6] When stories are read to her, as Niime did, she tends to fall asleep once they're finished.[7]

Fae has trouble understanding certain ideas, such as her destiny to live for near-eternity;[8] however, she fully understands the concept of death and is distraught at Sophia's suggestion that she would one day die while Fae continues to live. For this reason, many of the people who interact with her deliberately avoid explaining the deaths of others to her, such as Igrene telling her about her deceased daughter, with whom Fae used to be friends.[9] Upon hearing Jahn's story of the Scouring at the Dragon Temple, she was upset by the idea that she would one day be an enemy to humans.[10]

Igrene: Fae, do as you're told.
Fae: Aww... But I don't want to.
    Igrene: Fae.
    Fae: ...Er...
    Igrene: Say you're sorry.
    Fae: ...I'm sorry.
Igrene: Look, Fae. You promised Roy you would do what he asked, didn't you? If you make a promise, you have to keep it. OK?
    Fae: OK...

  7. "Niime: Once upon a time, humans and... demons lived in this land. The demons used their immense power to hurt the humans. The weak humans could do nothing but watch as the bodies piled up... And then one day... eight bright rays of light came. They could be used to defeat the demons.
    Fae: Were they pretty lights?
Niime: Oh my, yes. ...The humans used the lights to fight against the demons. After a long and difficult battle... the demons were finally defeated. But that wasn't the end...
    Fae: Mmm...mmm...mmm... I'm sleepy now...
Niime: So...this is the enemy of mankind, is it? She doesn't seem to have a care in the world... ...In fact, she's adorable...

    Fae: No...
" — Fae and Sophia, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  9. "Fae: But she stopped coming to play with me. I asked Sophia about her, but she wouldn't tell. Is it my fault? Was I a bad girl to her? Did I make her angry and leave?
Igrene: No... Not at all. She was never mad at you, Fae. She can't play with you anymore, but... She'll always love you, Fae.
    Fae:Really?
    IgreneYes... Of course.
" — Fae and Igrene, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  10. "Roy: What's wrong, Fae? You look like you're about to cry..
    Fae: Am...am I evil, too...?
    Roy: Huh?
Fae: When... When I get older, will I be a bad dragon, too?
Roy: Slow down, Fae. Where did you get that idea?
Fae: That man said that...dragons and humans can't live in peace...
Roy: That wasn't true. You've lived in Nabata with humans, haven't you?
Fae: But the demon dragon is a divine dragon like me! You're going to fight the demon dragon, but what about me? What if...when I grow up... I'm like the demon dragon...? Then...you'd have to...
Roy: Don't worry, Fae. I know you'll never be like the demon dragon. You'll always live with humans. With people like me.
Fae: ...Do you really think so?
Roy: Of course! I want to help the demon dragon, too.
    Fae: Help her?
Roy: The demon dragon isn't acting of her own free will. She had her soul destroyed. She is a slave. I...I don't want to kill her if I can avoid it...
Fae: ...Your words are too big. I don't understand.
Roy: I'm sure you'll learn what I mean once you get a little older.
" — Roy and Fae, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  11. "Elphin: As you wish, Fae. Fae... A unique name. Is it your full name?
Fae: No, my real name is reeeeally long. And they say it's a sound humans can't hear. Fae's the only part that you can.
    Elphin: Interesting.
Fae: But maybe you could hear it, Elphin! You make so many pretty sounds, maybe you could hear my real name!
Elphin: Why don't you try telling it to me some time?
    Fae: OK!
" — Elphin and Fae, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
