Ethlyn (エスリン Ethlin) was the wife of Prince Quan of Leonster and a member of the Chalphy nobility of Grannvale; she is the younger sister of Chalphy's Lord Sigurd, one of Quan's closest friends. In 757, she set out with Quan and the young knight Finn to assist Sigurd in fighting off Verdane's invasion of Grannvale, and travelled with him through Agustria to Silesse, at which point she and Quan departed Sigurd's group to return to Leonster to gather reinforcements. She and Quan were killed on their way back to rejoin Sigurd, beseiged by the Thracian wyvern knights in what became known as the Yied Massacre.

Role

Shortly into Sigurd's fight against the Verdane invasion, Ethlyn arrived in Chalphy from the east along with Quan and Finn, seeking to assist Sigurd in a time of crisis. Though Ethlyn apologized for dragging Quan into it, he remarked that he had just as much of an interest in helping Sigurd as she did.

If either Quan or Ethlyn are killed in battle while playable, both will leave the player's party. Both will leave the party, along with Finn, before the beginning of Chapter 4.

In Chapter 5, after Lubeck Castle has been seized, Ethlyn, Quan and a squad of Leonster knights will appear as partner units in the map's south-east corner. Her stats here are the same as they were when she left in Chapter 4, except for her items - she instead possesses an Iron Sword and Mend.

Ethlyn is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Genealogy of the Holy War first-generation character set.

Ethlyn also appears as an enemy unit in two DLC episodes - Lost Bloodlines 1 and Lost Bloodlines 3 - and as a NPC in a further one episode, Lost Bloodlines 2.

Skill set

Like all female bonus units in Awakening, Ethlyn has access to all base class and advanced class skills available to standard female units.

Personality and character

Ethlyn is very level-headed, and during their childhood, she assumed the role of the mother figure of the Chalphy family after their mother's death, taking care of her father and Sigurd; Sigurd claims that she was rather harsh and naggy about it, which she retorts was out of necessity from how sloppy Sigurd and Vylon were. She is considered something of a role model by the Leonster knight Selfina, and the two used to be rather close.

Love growths and events

Genealogy of the Holy War

When recruited, Ethlyn already has full love growth with Quan; should Quan be killed, Ethlyn will leave the party too and as such cannot be re-paired with another character.

• In the Prologue, Ethlyn can talk to Sigurd after she has been recruited. This conversation yields no reward.
• In Chapter 1, Adean can talk to Ethlyn at any time after the former has been recruited, rewarding her with a Return Staff.
• In Chapter 2, Deirdre can talk to Ethlyn at any time, rewarding her with a Light Brand.
• In Chapter 3, Ethlyn can talk to Quan after Silvail Castle has been seized, giving him the Gáe Bolg.
