— Chrom

Chrom (クロム Chrom) is the prince of the Halidom of Ylisse, the younger brother of its current Exalt Emmeryn, and the elder brother of Princess Lissa. He is a descendant of the legendary Hero-King, bearing the Brand of Naga possessed by his bloodline on his right shoulder, and is the current wielder of the Falchion, Ylisse's national treasure. He is the captain of the Shepherds, an Ylissean militia initially convened to combat Plegian encroachment on Ylisse's borders, and led the combined forces of Ylisse and Ferox in wars with Plegia, the Valmese Empire and later the Grimleal, fighting to prevent the resurrection of the Fell Dragon Grima.

Chrom is one of the three main characters of Fire Emblem Awakening, the others being the Avatar and his daughter, Lucina.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

Chrom has been confirmed to appear in the crossover title Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, as a "Mirage".[1] It is currently unknown what role he will serve in the game's plot.

Personality and character

Chrom has been described by others as a direct man, one who possesses deep conviction in his chosen path.[2] He cares greatly for those around him and in his service, paying close attention to them and their needs.[3] He believes that as a leader, he must show strength in the face of fatigue and the burden of great work, so as to be an example and inspiration to others.[4] While he has the utmost respect for Emmeryn's pacifistic ways, and following her death seeks to honor her legacy, he believes that in the end force will be necessary to counteract those who would endanger a peaceful world and that if he must, he is willing to fight and kill to defend the peace.[5]

Chrom has the utmost faith in other people, particularly his friends and allies. No matter the circumstance or risk, he will attempt to aid anyone in need he encounters, fully aware of and willing to risk any potential consequences if it means.[6] His interest in aiding people goes beyond merely helping them: he is always seeking to forge new bonds of friendship and that doing so improves himself, his army and the people of the world.[7] He believes strongly in the power of unity, attesting that a united front tightly bound by friendship and trust can together overcome even the most powerful of individuals.[8]

Endgame: Grima quotes

The war is ended, my friends. Never again will the fell dragon trouble our world. I owe you all far more than words can ever repay. Especially <Avatar>, who gave [himself/herself] to save us all. To save all the worlds to come. [...] Don't cry, Lissa. We'll see [him/her] again. I'm sure of it. Remember what Naga said? That <Avatar> would survive if our ties were strong enough. This isn't over. I believe <Avatar> is out there...somewhere... And I'll find [him/her]. If it takes me the rest of my days, I'll find [him/her]...
— Chrom, if the Avatar sacrifices him/herself to kill Grima.
He may rise to threaten the world again, but he'll never destroy it. One such as I, or the first exalt before me... One will rise up to challenge him. Shepherds... Friends... The war is over! The fell dragon's era of chaos has been averted! The Risen will trouble our world no more! You all know that I'm a simple man, never one for speeches or song... But you need to know this... All that is good and brave in me and what I have done is because of you! We have weathered a sea of horror, but we did it as one. And, finally, we have come to the inviting shores of a bright future. Together.
— Chrom, if Chrom lands the final blow on Grima.

Chrom: I come to end you, Grima!
Grima: ...ARROGANT MORTAL... I AM THE END!

Against Eirika in Champions of Yore 1

Eirika: So you really are brigands. Why did you lie to me, sir? I will not stand for being deceived!
Chrom: How can I deceive you if I can't even get a word in edgewise? ... But if it's a fight you want, I can deliver in spades.

Against Eirika in Champions of Yore 3

Chrom: Let me guess, you won't be deceived by the likes of brigands?
Eirika: You're very perceptive. Now come at me!

Against Sigurd in Lost Bloodlines 1

Sigurd: Are you the enemy commander? You can still leave here with your lives.
Chrom: I appreciate the offer, but would it shock you if I refused?

Against King Marth in Lost Bloodlines 2

King Marth: Are you the leader of the visiting forces?
Chrom: Please don't ask me to yield. I have no choice but to defeat you.
King Marth: Then it seems neither of us has a choice. Draw, sir!

Against Sigurd in Lost Bloodlines 3

Sigurd: Lead your army hence. I will not ask again.
Chrom: You speak as though you're the only man with a purpose. Think again!

Against King Marth in Lost Bloodlines 3

King Marth: The enemy commander, I presume? Leave. You do not belong here.
Chrom: Perhaps not. But I have my reasons to fight!

Chrom: I would be, but I'm not here to reason—I'm here to fight. Shall we?

Ike: I believe that's my line. Come on!

Pr. Marth: You'll have to win that right!

Against Pr. Marth in Rogues & Redeemers 3

Chrom: You're formidable opponents, all of you.

Chrom: Sorry, but that cannot happen until we've defeated every last one of you.

DLC battle quotes

Why in the seven hells am I fighting for someone else's nest egg? I don't think I've had a less inspiring cause in my whole life. Well, as long as there are enemies here, I may as well use them for training.

Shooing miscreants away from crops? Am I back in my early Shepherd days? Still, I've vowed to help people in need, so help I shall!
— Chrom, in EXPonential Growth.
You said you gave your lives in a battle on which the future hung in the balance. Then you should understand why I have to defeat you here... I'm sorry, friend, but I can ill afford to share your fate!
— Chrom, in Infinite Regalia.
I wish I had the power to give you back your lives... But now that you're Risen, all I can do is fell you again—hopefully for good. Forgive me for not reaching you sooner...

A tremor, followed by a surge of Risen... It's just like what happened in Ylisse. And that was just the beginning of all our troubles... I'm not about to let the same or worse happen here!
— Chrom, in Five-Anna Firefight.
Who knew we had a roster? And from the sounds of it, quite a scandalous one... Well, my army's reputation is MY reputation. I have to get that book back!
— Chrom, in Roster Rescue.
It feels a bit strange to get the celebrity treatment... But I'll admit—after a long march, it's nice to be pampered. The least we can do in return is live up to the gossip and rout these fiends!
— Chrom, in Summer Scramble.
You Risen stick out like sore thumbs in a place as tranquil as this. Seriously, can we not even take a bath in peace? Oh well. A Shepherd's got to do what a Shepherd's got to do!
— Chrom, in Hot-Spring Scramble.

Monster Hunter: Frontier G

The Wii U version of Monster Hunter: Frontier G, a massively multiplayer online RPG in Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise, will feature an exclusive armor set for male playable characters which allows them to dress as Chrom, as part of a collaborative promotion. Accompanying the costume is a pair of weapons: the Falchion and Fire Emblem (under the name 封剣ファルシオンI Sealed Sword Falchion I) as a shield and single-handed sword combo, and Nidhogg (双聖器ニーズヘッグI Sacred Twin Nidhogg I) as a bow weapon.[9]

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Robin's Final Smash, including Chrom.
SSB.png This article or section is a short summary of Chrom.
SmashWiki features a more in-depth article.

Chrom features in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, not as a playable character, but instead simply as part of Robin's Final Smash, in which Robin summons him to pair up to attack opponents. The games' director, Masahiro Sakurai, commented in his Famitsu column that he considered including Chrom as a playable character in his own right, but dropped him in favour of Robin, who he felt offered a more unique moveset, while Chrom was considered to be just "another plain-old sword-wielder like Marth and Ike"[10]. Chrom also makes an appearance in an easter egg for Pit, giving him advice and information about Robin, while being on the receiving end of Palutena's and Viridi's jokes, who echo Sakurai's reasons for Chrom not making it to the playable roster. In both versions, there is also a Chrom trophy available.

PAL: The prince of the Halidom of Ylisse and a descendant of the Hero-King Marth. Chrom and his militia, the Shepherds, swear to protect the people of Ylisse. Despite being more than competent in battle, he's rather careless in training and always seems to be breaking things. He and Robin combine their skills in Robin's Final Smash.

Sumia: It's because you're so exhausted! You've been working too hard lately.
Chrom: I'm fine, Sumia. And besides, we're all tired. Such endless fighting wears on everyone.
Sumia: Chrom, you've no need to don a brave face for my sake. You carry twice the burden of anyone. It's only natural you're exhausted.
Chrom: Heh. You're kind to say so. But in truth, everyone looks to their commander for inspiration and strength. An army is only as stalwart as its leader. The instant I show weakness, we're through.
Sumia: It must be so hard for you...
Chrom: I'll...be fine. And please, don't speak of this conversation to anyone. All right?
Sumia: No-no! Of course not! I would never---
Chrom: Ha ha! At ease. Sumia. And stop worrying so much! It'll take more than a few battles to bring this soldier to his knees.

  5. "She represents the best of the halidom—the part most worth protecting. She IS peace. But some men would take advantage of that. Men like King Gangrel. The day he understands peace will be the day death gives it to him. ...So perhaps I must be death's agent. Emmeryn would never order him killed, nor would I wish her to." — Chrom, Fire Emblem Awakening
  6. "Chrom: <Avatar>, if I see someone hurt or in need, I'm going to help them. That's just who I am, and there's no changing it. Or would you rather I'd left you there, face down in the muck?
Avatar: No, of course not. I'm thankful for what you did. I truly am. But it scares me all the same. Chivalry and longevity don't often go hand in hand.
Chrom: Ha! I wish I had a gold coin for every time I got this lecture.
" — Chrom and Avatar (male), Fire Emblem Awakening
  7. "Chrom: You see? And it's not just you, Robin. It's everyone like you. I know going out there exposes me to danger, and I haven't always been careful. But it's a risk I'm willing to take in order to connect with the people. To forge bonds.
    Robin: Bonds? Between who?
Chrom: You and me. Me and the others. The villagers we've met, the world we've seen... Such bonds are the true strength of this army. Without them, we're lost. Others may disagree, but that's one benefit of leadership: I make the final call.
" — Chrom and Avatar (male), Fire Emblem Awakening
  8. "Walhart: First I must know how you defeated me. I have never lacked for strength.
Chrom: No, you're far stronger than me. Even now I think that's true. ...But you stand alone. My own strength is but a fraction of the strength I wield. My allies hone and temper me. They boost my morale and guide my actions.
