(Japanese: バロン Baron) is an advanced armored class debuting in Fire Emblem Gaiden. Present in only three games, it has filled two rather different gameplay roles among its appearances. In its initial Gaiden appearance, the Baron was a third-tier advanced class, promoting from Knights, acting as the final stage in the Soldier class change line and as such being a potential final class option for Villagers. In this incarnation, it only wields lances and acts in a largely identical manner to the General, the primary class change option for Knights in future games.

The second version of the Baron is used in Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776, here an enemy-exclusive class. Here, the Baron is noted primarily for possessing access to almost every weapon type in the game; they can use swords, lances, axes, bows, fire magic, thunder magic, wind magic, and staves, and the only weapons not available to them are light and dark magic. With the exception of the Gelb Ritter in the final chapter, all appearing Barons act as bosses.

In both of the class's incarnations, they have in common a very high range of stats; they possess high Strength, in addition to the high HP and Defense traditional of armored units, and are all-around competent in other stats, if lagging in Skill and Speed in Gaiden. In Genealogy and Thracia, Barons under most circumstances are stationed in castles or forts, further increasing their status as formidable bosses; that said, while their wide weapon range may lead to the assumption that Barons actively use multiple types to match situations as necessary, in practice practically all Barons wield a single weapon or weapon type, lessening that particular potential threat.
