Barbarian (ばんぞく, Banzoku, meaning "savage tribe", or バーバリアン, Baabarian) is a class of enemy axe users in the Fire Emblem series. They first appeared in the third game of the series, Mystery of the Emblem, made a second appearance in the next game, Genealogy of the Holy War, then disappeared until returning in the remake of the third game, New Mystery of the Emblem, then again in Awakening by way of a Second Seal.

Barbarians are similar to Brigands and Pirates in that they are generally villainous axe-wielding enemies. They tend to be stronger than Brigands and Pirates, though they often share stats and growth rates. They attack directly for the most part (though they can use hand axes), and tend to have high strength. They usually have low defense, and are especially weak to magic.

The boss of the fifth prologue chapter of New Mystery of the Emblem is a barbarian. Otherwise, in Mystery of the Emblem and New Mystery of the Emblem, they usually appear as savages living in mountain tribes associated with dragons. Barbarians in Genealogy of the Holy War are normal axe-using enemies.

In Awakening, barbarians can promote to the Warrior or Berserker class.
