Asugi: *sigh* Why do they always assume that?
Corrin: Asugi, what's wrong? You're muttering to yourself.
Asugi: Huh? Oh, Boss. It's nothing. OH! Wait! Hey, buuuddy!
Corrin: Um...yeah?
Asugi: Ya wanna go into town with yours truly? We'll have a grand old time, I promise!
Corrin: Why the sudden invite? Did you need to go shopping for something?
Asugi: No, no. I just heard that a new bakery opened up just outside town. They're said to have the most amazing cheesecakes in the land. And I've been looking for someone to go with me.
Corrin: Sounds fun, but... Asugi, why waste cheesecake on me? Sounds like a prime dating opportunity!
Asugi: Oh, cribbles. Here we go again. Why, oh why, did I expect anything different?
Corrin: Hm? Is something wrong?
Asugi: Whenever I invite someone to get sweets with me, they get the wrong idea. And when I tell them I don't want a date, they just think I'm being defensive. The worst part is when they get all twinkly eyed and I have to turn them down.
Corrin: So that's why you were grumbling to yourself.
Asugi: Yeah. I don't want any dates. I just want to enjoy some cheesecake and chat. Is that such a terrible thing?
Corrin: I suppose not.
Asugi: So I figured I should ask you. I thought of all people, you'd understand. Guess not.
Corrin: Haha. Sorry, thought I was helping. I'd love to go eat some cheesecake!
Asugi: Thanks! You're a real pal, Boss. I'll just grab my things, and we can go!
(Asugi leaves)
Corrin: Haha. Asugi sure loves his sweets...

B Support

Asugi: Ah! That really hit the spot. I haven't tasted something so good in ages. That cheesecake was a work of art! Right, Boss? And the presentation! Beautiful! I've never seen plating that impeccable before.
Corrin: That pie was pretty tasty too.
Asugi: Yes! The crust was flaky and flavorful, but not obtrusively so. And the raspberries... Not too tart, and not too sweet. A balance rarely achieved by even master bakers! It feels as though the gods crafted a divine culinary harmony for my tongue alone.
Corrin: Haha. That's an...interesting way of describing food, Asugi. I don't think I ever fully realized just how passionate you are about this stuff.
Asugi: I-I wouldn't say "passionate." I just like tasty things, is all!
Corrin: Haha! You're blushing! It's all right. I won't judge. I'm surprised you didn't become a chef, though.
Asugi: Eh, we can't all do what we're passionate about for a living. Some things are more important. Anyways, you need to learn to appreciate sweets more, friendo.
Corrin: I do? I thought I was appreciating them just fine!
Asugi: You kidding me, Boss? You spent more time picking out trinkets to bring back home than you did eating! You were rubbernecking like a regular country bumpkin, too. I'm surprised at you. What's with all this touristy stuff? Ain't that a bit below someone of your station?
Corrin: What about you? You were buying out every sweets shop and bakery we came across! Kind of looked like a country bumpkin yourself, if you ask me.
Asugi: Hey! It's not my fault. They didn't have places like that back in my Deeprealm.
Corrin: Haha. Trust me, I know the feeling. I grew up confined to a castle, remember?
Asugi: Fair enough. It's too bad they don't let you box up any of their cheesecake, though. It would have been nice to bring it back and share with everyone.
Corrin: Why don't we take them all there instead?
Asugi: That tiny place? We'd never fit! Oh, I know! I'll just make it myself.
Corrin: Make it yourself? How?!
Asugi: Oh, I've got my ways. Now that I've tasted it, I think I can whip something up. I'm going to need your help, though. I want to make sure that it's an exact replica.
Corrin: Sure! I'll do whatever I can!

A Support

Asugi: OK. I think we're done.
Corrin: You did it, Asugi! I don't know how you managed to pull it off, but you did. Every single treat, tart, cake, and cobbler from that bakery, re-created from scratch. Even the cheesecake!
Asugi: Oh, hop off. It's not that amazing.
Corrin: You got the tastes down perfectly... In fact, these might be a little better. Even I know this can't have possibly been easy. How did you do it?
Asugi: I have some connections that managed to get me a list of the bakery's ingredients. From there, it was just a matter of taste and patience to figure out the rest. But, of course, it'd be boring to just make copies, so I added a few of my own twists. Notice the lemon zest on that raspberry tart? That was ol' Asugi's doing.
Corrin: Mm. This really is a remarkable achievement, Asugi.
Asugi: Yep. But I hate to say I can't do this again. I don't want to steal their business. Ain't gonna let anyone call me a thief.
Corrin: That's very admirable of you. Now, let's grab everyone and have ourselves a party!
Asugi: Sounds good to me, Boss!
Corrin: Seems a shame, though... I don't know when I'll taste cheesecake this good again.
Asugi: Aw, don't make that face. I can make you tons of different sweets. You'll forget about this stuff in no time.
Corrin: Really?
Asugi: Sure! You're my sweets buddy now. You ever crave some, just ask. Course, you'll have to help out some. No such thing as free dessert.
Corrin: Haha. Thanks. I'm honored to be your sweets buddy. Maybe we can open a bakery together after the war?
Asugi: Hey now, don't get too crazy there. You're a prince, remember? And I'm a ninja. We've got duties to see to. Besides, can you imagine the figure we'd cut in a bakery?
Corrin: I can. I think it'd be great! A prince-ninja bakery! But...you're right. Duty first. Maybe we could do a bake sale every now and then though.
Asugi: Hey...that ain't a bad idea. I think I'm gonna hold you to that one, Boss.
Corrin: Good. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Corrin: *pant pant* Oh, Asugi! C-could I get your help?
Asugi: Hey there, Boss. What's wrong? You seem a little out of breath.
Corrin: We've been rai— Did you just call me "Boss"? That's not as...imaginative as your other nicknames.
Asugi: I know, I know. I WAS thinking "Bubbles," but something about it just didn't sit right. I've been having trouble coming up with good nicknames these days... Anyways, what'd you need?
Corrin: We've been raided!
Asugi: Raided? I didn't hear anything.
Corrin: I mean our food! Someone managed to break into the mess's storage room!
Asugi: ...Isn't there a watch assigned to that room round the clock?
Corrin: Yes! And they didn't see anything! Which is why this is such a problem! We have no idea how they got in! Which means it could happen again.
Asugi: I see...
Corrin: Asugi, do you have any idea how this might have happened?
Asugi: ...Nope. Nah. Not a one. Mm-mm. No, ma'am.
Corrin: Um...OK. Suspicious answers aside, if you think of something, please, come to me. I'll be heading the investigation personally. This is too important to delegate. If they hit our food again, they may take far, far more. And if we don't have food, we don't have an army.
Asugi: Yes'm. I'll keep my peepers peeping. Now, if you'll be so kind, I'll take my leave. I have some affairs to see to.
(Asugi leaves)
Corrin: Hm... ...No, it couldn't be. Asugi wouldn't lie to me. I should get back to my investigation.

B Support

Corrin: *pant pant* Asugi!
Asugi: Out of breath again? Let me guess...
Corrin: Yes. Those thieves hit our food supply again.
Asugi: I see.
Corrin: I swear I will catch the dastards that did this and bring them to justice! If this keeps up, I shudder to think what will happen to us. Thankfully, they've only managed to get away with a trivial amount of food so far...
Asugi: You've a right to be angry, I s'pose.
Corrin: Huh?
Asugi: Stealing is a crime, after all. It's not right, taking from others for one's own gain. But, then, how many people steal food out of selfishness?
Corrin: ...What do you mean?
Asugi: I mean that there can be good reasons for stealing. See, this may be hard to believe, but not everyone who's poor deserves to be so. And nobles have more wealth than they can shake a candy cane at. The world could use some...rebalancing now and then. That's why we have noble thieves—to take from the rich and give to the poor.
Corrin: But how are we supposed to prevent chaos if we just let people steal? What did the nobles do to deserve to lose their property?
Asugi: *snort* What did they do to earn it? A little chaos can be a good thing. Besides, you'll find that the poor aren't greedy. They take what they need. Like you said, only a small amount of food was missing from our stores.
Corrin: I...I mean, that's true, I guess...
Asugi: Anyway. That's all. Catch you later, Boss.
(Asugi leaves)
Corrin: Asugi! Wait!
Asugi: Yes'm?
Corrin: Um...I apologize in advance, but I must ask. Did you...?
Asugi: You think I stole it? Heh. Can't say I blame you after that little speech. Don't worry, though. Wasn't me. But everything'll be clear soon enough.
(Asugi leaves)
Corrin: Hm...

A Support

Corrin: Asugi! Is it true?! Were you the one that caught the thieves?!
Asugi: Damn it. Who ratted?
Corrin: It never even occurred to me that they would be children. How did they even get in?
Asugi: There was a hole in the back, hidden behind a mound of dirt.
Corrin: If you knew this, why didn't you say anything about it? This is a major security risk! What if someone else had found it?!
Asugi: The hole is tiny. Barely big enough for a hound. It was pretty clear no adult could get through it, and there's no other way in. Besides, it's pretty much always children who steal food. Especially in that amount.
Corrin: Huh?
Asugi: Adults always go after money. They understand they need more than food. But kids are more straightforward. They follow their stomachs. Anyways, I don't want to make a big deal out of this. For their sake. You're not going to help them much by giving them anything. These kids have parents. Which means anything you give the kids ain't theirs.
Corrin: And you don't think the parents would do the right thing...
Asugi: I visited them. They're not the virtuous type. It's hard to be virtuous and poor. I did arrange something with the local grocer, though. Heard he was trustworthy. He agreed to look out for them as well as he could. Make sure they weren't hungry. And I got the kids to promise they wouldn't steal so long as they were fed. Hope one of them takes it to heart.
Corrin: Y-you did all that?
Asugi: Eh? Sure. Why not? Didn't have anything better to do.
Corrin: I guess I just...didn't expect it of you.
Asugi: Heh. Glad to know I inspire such raw, trusting admiration.
Corrin: Er, not that I ever had a bad opinion of you. I think I just...misunderstood you. You've taught me some important things, Asugi. We need to keep in mind the people we're supposedly trying to do this for. Without them, all our efforts amount to little more than another power struggle. Even if we don't see them, we must always keep them in mind.
Asugi: Guess you're not so naive after all, Boss. Well, if something else comes up, let me know. Later.
(Asugi leaves)
Corrin: Thank you, Asugi.

S Support

Corrin: Asuuuugiiiii.
Asugi: Hey, you. Need something?
Corrin: You went to check in on the kids who were stealing from us, didn't you?
Asugi: What? I don't— You got spies on me or something? I could have sworn I wasn't being followed.
Corrin: A little bird told me. I guess this explains all the baking you've been doing lately. I figured your sweet tooth was acting up, but it looks like it was just your heart! Haha. You should be proud, Asugi. It's a good thing you did.
Asugi: Oh, cram it. Anybody'd do the same. Who doesn't like to look after kids?
Corrin: Plenty of people. You're much kinder than you let on. Speaking of which...I wanted to apologize. For suspecting you were the food thief. It's just...it seemed so obvious. You had the skills and the knowledge. And you've got an insatiable appetite for desserts... I couldn't help but suspect...
Asugi: Yeah, I know. You're pretty easy to read. Most earnest, naive types are. But I like that about you. It's what makes you admirable.
Corrin: Thank...you? But, really, I must apologize for thinking you had anything to do with it.
Asugi: I'd be real annoyed if it were anyone else, but I think I can let it slide this once. But only because it's you.
Corrin: Huh? Why?
Asugi: Heh. Guess I gotta come clean. I fancy you, Boss.
Corrin: What?! A-Asugi!
Asugi: Haha. Don't sound so pleased.
Corrin: No, I didn't mean... I meant... That makes me very happy, Asugi. I "fancy" you too.
Asugi: Huh?
Corrin: You didn't notice? Who'd you think's been leaving all of those candy apples in your quarters?
Asugi: Th-that was you?
Corrin: Yes. I wanted to pay you back for what you did for those kids. And, well, we all love giving presents to the object of our secret affections. You're so kind, Asugi. I think it's very... admirable.
Asugi: W-would you quit saying the "k" word?!
Corrin: Heehee! You're so cute when you're embarrassed.
Asugi: G-ghh... Whatever... But...I am glad we feel the same way about each other.
Corrin: As am I. I think this might just be the start of a beautiful life together, Asugi.
Asugi: Me too, Corrin. This life and the next one, too.

(Confession Scene)
Asugi: You're sweeter than sweets, my sweet. Let's celebrate our delicious love with a giant wedding cake! I'm serious. Biggest. Cake. EVER.

Asugi: Ah, mission accomplished. I got a ton of useful information tonight. Today's undercover work was riskier than usual. I almost got caught this time. Almost doesn't count though, heh heh. Time to share what I learned and go relax.
Corrin: Asugi! You're finally home...
Asugi: M-Mom?! Shouldn't you be asleep? It's really late.
Corrin: I realize that. But I'll stay up as late as it takes to see you home safely.
Asugi: I'm fine, Mom. It's an early morning tomorrow. You should be asleep!
Corrin: I try, but it's no use. I lie awake worrying about you.
Asugi: Look, I get sent out on these recon trips because I'm good at them. We all risk our lives when we're out on our missions, and I'm no different.
Corrin: Solo missions are different, though. I don't like that you put yourself in such danger without any support.
Asugi: I told you, I'm fine. I do what I have to, and that's the end of it. If you stay up all night, you'll just be a liability to all of us tomorrow.
Corrin: That's not fair, Asugi. Don't think you can get out of discussing this.
Asugi: Look, it's late. I'm exhausted. We should both get some rest.
Corrin: ...All right. But this is not over.

B Support

Asugi: ... I've successfully infiltrated the enemy base. Piece of cake! (Mmm...cake.) Now to scope out what the leaders here are up to. They've been acting suspicious. If I can just find some evidence that they're planning something…
Corrin: I suggest saving that heavily guarded building to the right for last, just in case.
Asugi: WHAA—?! What...? MOM?! What in the name of all that is sweet and holy are you doing here?
Corrin: I heard you trying to sneak out, and so I thought I'd tag along.
Asugi: Wh-why would you follow me? This place is dangerous!
Corrin: I told you. You need support on these hazardous missions, so I'm volunteering.
Asugi: You shouldn't be here, Mom. This is MY mission, not yours!
Corrin: What does it matter, so long as it's accomplished? If anything, that should be easier with two of us attacking the problem.
Asugi: SHH! Be quiet!
Corrin: Mmrph...!
Asugi: Not another word! The enemy patrol is heading this way...
Corrin: Fine...
Asugi: *sigh* OK, they're gone. Gods, my heart is racing. I was certain they'd spotted us.
Corrin: Haha, I doubt it. They never came anywhere near our position.
Asugi: Geez, Mom. I know parents like to bond with their kids, but this is overkill!
Corrin: There's no such thing as overkill when it comes to looking after my son.
Asugi: Ugh, enough is enough. I can't think straight when you're here. This whole mission is a bust. Let's go.
Corrin: Er...what happened to the suspicious leaders? The enemy plans?
Asugi: Come on, Mom. I know a shortcut back. It's time to go home.
Corrin: But the moon's just set. We have plenty of time to finish things here.
Asugi: It's over. Come on, let's hurry back.
Corrin: Well, it's your mission, I suppose...

A Support

Corrin: What are we tackling tonight? Troop movements? Message interception?
Asugi: ... WE are not going anywhere. You're not coming along.
Corrin: I insist, Asugi. I won't stay home while you put yourself in danger.
Asugi: Mom, you're being unreasonable. Don't you trust me?
Corrin: My trust in you won't help me much if they have to carry you back in several pieces. I'm your mother. The unreasonable thing is you asking me not to worry. I'm a powerful warrior in my own right. Why shouldn't I help my son?
Asugi: We each have our own part to play in this war, Mom. I'm a ninja, so I fulfill the roles that my training has prepared me for. When you follow me, it puts us both in very real danger. Instead of focusing on the mission, I can only think of protecting you.
Corrin: I meant well, Asugi. It's just...
Asugi: ...
Corrin: How would I live with myself if you were caught on one of these solo missions? It tortures me to do less than I possibly could for you...!
Asugi: Mom... Look, this is embarrassing, so I'm only going to say it once.
Corrin: Oh?
Asugi: When I got back from my mission that one night and I saw you waiting up for me... I was so happy.
Corrin: Really?
Asugi: Really. It made me realize that I had a real home to come back to. Knowing you're out there, waiting for me, makes me desperate to make it back home. No matter how much danger I'm in or what I have to do to make it back safely... I always will. I will always, always come back home to you.
Corrin: Asugi...
Asugi: That's why I need you to stay here. My home is wherever YOU are. I can't do what I do without knowing that I have a loving home waiting for me. As long as you're here, safe and happy, I'll never lose heart.
Corrin: ... All right. If that's really how you feel, then I'll restrain myself. I want you to be alive, mind you, but I also want you to be happy.
Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Corrin: There's still the problem of what I'll do instead of sleeping, but I have one idea. How about if I prepare your favorite foods for you? You're hungry when you get home, I'm sure.
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!
Corrin: It's a deal. You'll be sure to come home, and I'll be sure you're properly welcomed.
Asugi: Thanks, Mom. I love you.

Azura: I just can't get used to sending my son out to battle all on his own... The least I can do is stay awake until you're back home, safe and sound.
Asugi: I told you, I'm fine. I do what I have to, and that's the end of it. If you stay up all night, you'll just be a liability to all of us tomorrow.
Azura: ...
Asugi: Look, it's late. I'm exhausted. We should both get some rest.
Azura: Very well. Good night, Asugi...

Asugi: WHAA—?! What...? MOM?! What in the name of all that is sweet and holy are you doing here?
Azura: I followed you. Didn't you notice?
Asugi: Wh-why would you follow me? This place is dangerous!
Azura: I told you, I can't just sit around and let you do dangerous things on your own.

Azura: Hello, Asugi. Where are we off to tonight?
Asugi: ... WE are not going anywhere. You're not coming along.
Azura: This isn't up for discussion. I refuse to just stand by while you're in danger.
Asugi: Mom, you're being unreasonable. Don't you trust me?
Azura: Of course, but you're always off on those dangerous recon missions. There isn't a mother in the world who wouldn't be worried. I'm lucky enough to be skilled in battle. Why wouldn't I lend a hand?
Asugi: We each have our own part to play in this war, Mom. I'm a ninja, so I fulfill the roles that my training has prepared me for. When you follow me, it puts us both in very real danger. Instead of focusing on the mission, I can only think of protecting you.
Azura: But I'm just so worried about you...
Asugi: ...
Azura: The thought of something bad happening to you is unbearable. How do you expect me to stand aside and do nothing?
Asugi: Mom... Look, this is embarrassing, so I'm only going to say it once.
Azura: I'm listening.
Asugi: When I got back from my mission that one night, and I saw you waiting up for me... I was really happy.

Asugi: I was. It made me realize that I had a real home to come back to. Knowing you're out there, waiting for me, makes me desperate to make it back home. No matter how much danger I'm in or what I have to do to make it back safely... I always will. I will always, always come back home to you.
Azura: Asugi...
Asugi: That's why I need you to stay here. My home is wherever YOU are. I can't do what I do without knowing that I have a loving home waiting for me. As long as you're here, safe and happy, I'll never lose heart.
Azura: ... I finally understand. I suppose it would be selfish of me to keep following you. You do what you need to do, my love. I'll always be here for you.
Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Azura: But I simply can't sleep while you're away... Perhaps I'll prepare dinner and some sweet snacks for my brave boy while he's gone.
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!

Asugi: Thanks, Mom. I love you too.

Saizo: Hmph.
Asugi: Hm? Oh, it's you.
Saizo: I thought you might be the perpetrator of that sickly sweet smell.
Asugi: Dad! Why are you always so down on my hobbies?
Saizo: It's beyond me how you can stomach so much candy. What it must do to your stomach...your teeth...your brain...
Asugi: Hey, you told me when you asked me to come with you that I could live as I please. So that's exactly what I'm doing.
Saizo: But why make these giant batches of candy when you're the only one eating it?
Asugi: Oh, I'm hardly the only one. The kids in the village love my candy... and the girls, too.
Saizo: What?! I don't believe what I'm hearing... This whole candy-making hobby is just a pretext to pick up women?
Asugi: Huh...? What the hell, Dad?!
Saizo: You spineless worm! I didn't come here to upbraid you about your hobby... But may the gods help you if you do anything to tarnish this army's dignity!
Asugi: If that's how it's gonna be... maybe the problem's not with me, but with your weird ideas about dignity.
Saizo: ...What did you just say?
Asugi: Forget it.
Saizo: I'm leaving before you embarrass yourself further.
Asugi: Fine with me. This candy's not gonna make itself.
(Saizo leaves)
Asugi: Ugh...

B Support

Saizo: Asugi...I owe you an apology.
Asugi: You? Apologizing? This feels...weird...
Saizo: When you said you intended to share your candy with the women of the village... I instantly assumed it was a ploy to win their hearts. That was wrong of me.
Asugi: Oh, did someone clue you in?
Saizo: Yes. I'm told that this is, in fact, a ploy for gathering intelligence.
Asugi: Heheh. They don't call it "sweet talking" for nothing. You'd be surprised what you learn.
Saizo: But why didn't you say anything? This all could have been cleared up with a few words from you.
Asugi: Because if EVERYONE knows, then the technique becomes useless. Besides, you weren't too far off the mark. I'm not just here to win. I'm also here to make friends. Getting to know the people I'm supposed to protect helps keep my mind on the goal.
Saizo: I see... It's certainly different from my approach. Your way would never have occurred to me.
Asugi: What, is that "beyond you" too?
Saizo: No. I meant only to say... you have different skills, but you find a way to put them to use as a ninja. There is nothing in that for me to criticize. We have our differences, it's true. For a father and son, we have little in common. But I'm starting to think there might be nothing wrong with that.
Asugi: Dad...
Saizo: You're sure of yourself, which is what counts. Far be it from me to upend that. You should go your own way in life.
Asugi: This is your weird way of giving your approval, right?
Saizo: I wouldn't go that far. Let's not say I approve, but rather that I...condone. And that I'll listen when you try to tell me something.
Asugi: Heh. That's a good start. Thanks, Dad.
Saizo: Hmph...

A Support

Asugi: Dad, you're doing the creepy stare thing. Cut it out.
Saizo: I was thinking about that name of yours...
Asugi: Which one? Asugi, or Saizo?
Saizo: I meant Asugi. When did you start calling yourself that?
Asugi: I forget exactly, but it was sometime during my stay in the Deeprealm. After I found out what my name meant and the training it would impose on me... I just wanted to be rid of the whole thing.
Saizo: ...I see.
Asugi: "Asugi" is a word in one of the languages they speak out there. It means "gray." Perfect for a wishy-washy kid like me, huh? I picked it half as a joke, but I'm attached to it now.
Saizo: Even so, it makes me uneasy. It's too different from your birth name.
Asugi: But you're using it anyway. You're telling me it's OK to walk my own path. I really like that. Feels like, for the first time, you're approving of a decision I made. It's almost as satisfying as the time I had my first lollipop...
Saizo: ...I'll take that in the spirit it was meant.
Asugi: Anyway, I've been thinking, and I'm going to be the sixth Saizo after all.
Saizo: What?! What's gotten into you? I thought you hated the pressures associated with that name.
Asugi: Yeah, well...I changed my mind. Sure, I'm not like you. But you were willing to meet me halfway. I'm Asugi to you now, not just another in the line of Saizos. So I thought I'd be a jerk not to do the same for you. Besides, I can't let the Saizo name die with you after this long.
Saizo: You needn't worry about that. Five generations is plenty.
Asugi: Haha, I never thought I'd hear that from you of all people. I thought you were way too stubborn to stick up for your son that much.
Saizo: Say what you will.
Asugi: It's OK, Dad. When I take up the Saizo name, it won't be out of obligation. I'll do it because I want to. If I understand right, it's a Hoshidan word that means "color bringer." And I like the idea that a wishy-washy, gray guy like me could be that someday. Gotta set my sights high, right?
Saizo: That's a rather poetic interpretation. You may be reading too much into it. My missions are rather dark and dreary.
Asugi: What's wrong with showing some imagination? Is that off limits, too?
Saizo: This idle talk serves us nothing. But I'll keep your ambitions in mind. You've made a wise decision today, Asugi.
Asugi: ...Sure.
Saizo: A color bringer, hmm? I wouldn't have characterized my father that way either. But this world is ever changing, and our line must change with it. Perhaps the war will be over by the time you become the sixth Saizo. Then your missions might have a wider palette than the blacks and reds of mine.
Asugi: That'd be nice. Though as the next Saizo, I'm prepared for whatever I'm called on to do. I need to honor the name, you know? Make my predecessors proud. If there comes a time when you decide I'm worthy of the Saizo name... then go ahead and call me that. Just like you're calling me Asugi now.
Saizo: As you wish. It is my hope that the day comes before I grow too old. That said, I don't intend to relinquish the name to you anytime soon. You threw the name away once. It won't be as easy as that to reclaim.
Asugi: Heh! If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing, now would it?
Saizo: ...Heh.

Asugi: Ah, mission accomplished. I got a ton of useful information tonight. Today's undercover work was riskier than usual. I almost got caught this time. "Almost" doesn't count though, heh heh. Time to share what I learned and go relax.
Orochi: Oh! Asugi! You're finally back! Asugi: M-Mom?! What are you doing awake? It's really late. Orochi: What else but waiting up for you, of course. Asugi: I'm fine, Mom. It's an early morning tomorrow. You should be asleep! Orochi: I tried, but it's impossible. I was too worried about what might happen to you. Asugi: Look, I get sent out on these recon trips because I'm good at them. We all risk our lives when we're out on our missions, and I'm no different. Orochi: I just can't shake this worry, though. When I fight, I have a whole team backing me up. But you... Asugi: I told you, I'm fine. I do what I have to, and that's the end of it. If you stay up all night, you'll just be a liability to all of us tomorrow. Orochi: Hmph...
Asugi: Look, it's late. I'm exhausted. We should both get some rest.
Orochi: If you say so. Good night.

Orochi: Where should we start looking?
Asugi: WHAA—?! What...? MOM?! What in the name of all that is sweet and holy are you doing here?
Orochi: Isn't it obvious? I decided to follow you.
Asugi: Wh-why would you follow me? This place is dangerous!
Orochi: We've been over this. I'm not OK with you doing these missions alone.
Asugi: You shouldn't be here, Mom. This is MY mission, not yours!
Orochi: What, you think I can't handle some simple reconnaissance work?
Asugi: SHH! Be quiet!
Orochi: M-mmph!
Asugi: Not another word! The enemy patrol is heading this way...
Orochi: That was them, eh...?
Asugi: *sigh* OK, they're gone. Gods, my heart is racing. I was certain they'd spotted us.
Orochi: I was a little nervous myself...
Asugi: Geez, Mom. I know parents like to bond with their kids, but this is overkill!
Orochi: I was just so worried that I was already out the door before I could think twice.
Asugi: Ugh, enough is enough. I can't think straight when you're here. This whole mission is a bust. Let's go.
Orochi: What? So soon?
Asugi: Come on, Mom. I know a shortcut back. It's time to go home.
Orochi: Don't be silly. The night is young! We've got lots to do here!

Orochi: That's not the point! I know everyone in this army can take care of themselves, you included. But the rest of us don't go off alone the way you do!
Asugi: We each have our own part to play in this war, Mom. I'm a ninja, so I fulfill the roles that my training has prepared me for. When you follow me, it puts us both in very real danger. Instead of focusing on the mission, I can only think of protecting you.
Orochi: Then you must know how I feel when I'm sitting at home!
Asugi: ...
Orochi: Instead of sleeping, all I can think about is what's happening with you. And I can't stand to do nothing about it!
Asugi: Mom... Look, this is embarrassing, so I'm only going to say it once.
Orochi: O...OK.
Asugi: When I got back from my mission that one night and I saw you waiting up for me... I was really happy.
Orochi: You were?
Asugi: I was. It made me realize that I had a real home to come back to. Knowing you're out there, waiting for me, makes me desperate to make it back home. No matter how much danger I'm in or what I have to do to make it back safely... I always will. I will always, always come back home to you.
Orochi: Asugi...
Asugi: That's why I need you to stay here. My home is wherever YOU are. I can't do what I do without knowing that I have a loving home waiting for me. As long as you're here, safe and happy, I'll never lose heart.
Orochi: ... OK. You've convinced me. If it helps you more for me to stay home than come along, that's what I'll do.
Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Orochi: But I'm not promising that I'll manage to sleep while you're out. Probably I'll end up staying awake to make sure there's food ready for you.
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!
Orochi: With plenty of sugar, just the way you like it! I love you too much to do anything else.
Asugi: Thanks, Mom. I love you too.

Oboro: Aw, Asugi...
Asugi: That's why I need you to stay here. My home is wherever YOU are. I can't do what I do without knowing that I have a loving home waiting for me. As long as you're here, safe and happy, I'll never lose heart.
Oboro: ... All right, all right. If you really mean that, I guess I'll stop. I'll just sit at home and wish you luck on your missions.
Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Oboro: I mean, it'll still be hard to sleep. Maybe I'll use the time to fix supper and a few snacks for when you get back.
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!
Oboro: I'll make sure the snacks are good and sweet! That's how you'll know I love you, Asugi.
Asugi: Thanks, Mom. I love you too.

Asugi: Ah, mission accomplished. I got a ton of useful information tonight. Today's undercover work was riskier than usual. I almost got caught this time. "Almost" doesn't count though, heh heh. Time to share what I learned and go relax.
Kagero: You're back.
Asugi: M-Mom?! Shouldn't you be asleep? It's really late.
Kagero: I was up waiting for you.
Asugi: I'm fine, Mom. It's an early morning tomorrow. You should be asleep!
Kagero: Impossible. Not with you gone.
Asugi: Look, I get sent out on these recon trips because I'm good at them. We all risk our lives when we're out on our missions, and I'm no different.
Kagero: You are different. You go alone. When I think of all that might happen... The least I can do is stay awake to confirm your return.
Asugi: I told you, I'm fine. I do what I have to, and that's the end of it. If you stay up all night, you'll just be a liability to all of us tomorrow.
Kagero: Mm.
Asugi: Look, it's late. I'm exhausted. We should both get some rest.
Kagero: Yes...we should. Sleep well.

Asugi: I've successfully infiltrated the enemy base. Piece of cake! (Mmm...cake.) Now to scope out what the leaders here are up to. They've been acting suspicious. If I can just find some evidence that they're planning something…
Kagero: That looks like an officer's quarters. We'll start there.
Asugi: WHAA—?! What...? MOM?! What in the name of all that is sweet and holy are you doing here?
Kagero: I followed the trail you left. You really should be more careful.
Asugi: Wh-why would you follow me? This place is dangerous!
Kagero: Was I not clear? I get nervous about you when you're on solo missions.
Asugi: You shouldn't be here, Mom. This is MY mission, not yours!
Kagero: It's still your mission. I'm helping you carry it out, that's all.
Asugi: SHH! Be quiet!
Kagero: Don't you shush me!
Asugi: Not another word! The enemy patrol is heading this way...
Kagero: ...
Asugi: *sigh* OK, they're gone. Gods, my heart is racing. I was certain they'd spotted us.
Kagero: They wouldn't. I'd already checked the sight lines.
Asugi: Geez, Mom. I know parents like to bond with their kids, but this is overkill!
Kagero: Maybe a little bit. But it's a mother's duty to protect her young.
Asugi: Ugh, enough is enough. I can't think straight when you're here. This whole mission is a bust. Let's go.
Kagero: You're not serious.
Asugi: Come on, Mom. I know a shortcut back. It's time to go home.
Kagero: But the mission hasn't been completed. It's barely been started!
Asugi: It's over. Come on, let's hurry back.
Kagero: If we must.

Kagero: What's our mission tonight?
Asugi: ... WE are not going anywhere. You're not coming along.
Kagero: I beg to differ. These recon missions are too dangerous for a lone agent.
Asugi: Mom, you're being unreasonable. Don't you trust me?
Kagero: It is nothing to do with trust! It is simply good practice to work in pairs. In fact, as I am the more experienced ninja, maybe it's you who should be my second.
Asugi: We each have our own part to play in this war, Mom. I fulfill the roles that my training has prepared me for. When you follow me, it puts us both in very real danger. Instead of focusing on the mission, I can only think of protecting you.
Kagero: That is a problem. I'm just not sure how to reconcile it with my fears.
Asugi: ...
Kagero: What if a mission went awry and I was nowhere near to pull you out? These are exactly the thoughts that keep me up at night!
Asugi: Mom... Look, this is embarrassing, so I'm only going to say it once.
Kagero: Say what?
Asugi: When I got back from my mission that one night and I saw you waiting up for me... I was really happy.
Kagero: You were?
Asugi: I was. It made me realize that I had a real home to come back to. Knowing you're out there, waiting for me, makes me desperate to make it back home. No matter how much danger I'm in or what I have to do to make it back safely... I always will. I will always, always come back home to you.

Asugi: That's why I need you to stay here. My home is wherever YOU are. I can't do what I do without knowing that I have a loving home waiting for me. As long as you're here, safe and happy, I'll never lose heart.
Kagero: ... I hadn't realized you felt that way. If that's the case, I won't interfere further. The least I can do as your mother is to grant you space to work.
Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Kagero: From now on, instead of staying awake worrying, I'll stay awake cooking. That way, you'll have food waiting for you when you return. You like sweets, yes?
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!
Kagero: Whatever I can do to ease your mind, dear. I only want what's best for you.
Asugi: Thanks, Mom. I love you too.

Asugi: Mom... Thank you. You don't know what that means to me.
Charlotte: It had better mean a lot! It won't be easy for me, staying behind. But for you, I'll make the sacrifice of letting you go without me into terrible danger. I guess I could pass the time cooking those sweets you love so much.
Asugi: That...would be AMAZING!
Charlotte: Lots and lots of them, to fatten you up so you can't go on missions anymore! Ugh. No. I didn't mean that. What I meant was, I love you, Asugi.

Asugi: I'm not worried about ME...

Asugi: Heh. All right. Fine. But you better stick close to me.
Kana: Woohoo! We should go patrolling every day!
Asugi: E-every day?
Kana: Yeah! I mean, patrols need to be done every day anyway. Why not us?
Asugi: Every day...

Asugi: Yeah. I think you've got a natural talent for this sort of thing.
Kana: Heehee. Thanks! What about you? Do you have any special talents, Asugi?
Asugi: Me? Hm. I guess it would be espionage. I can get into just about any old place without getting caught.
Kana: Wow! That's amazing! I bet if we combined our talents, we'd be unstoppable!
Asugi: Heh. Yeah, I could see that.
Kana: OK, then, let's get moving! We've still got a long ways to go if we're gonna be the best patrollers in camp!

Kana: I want you to teach me how to be like you!
Asugi: You mean, like, how to spy?
Kana: Well, I'm the youngest kid in camp, right? So there's a lot I still can't do. I know I can't just become a grown-up, but I can try to learn lots of different skills. Besides, I've always dreamed of learning something from my big brother! I used to wonder a lot about what it would be like to spend more time with you...
Asugi: Kana...
Kana: So I want to learn as much as possible from you, now that I can! Is that OK?
Asugi: Heh. Of course it's OK. I'm glad you asked.
Kana: Thank you so much!
Asugi: But I'm not going to let you get ahead of me that easy. I want to learn from you too. Let's see who can become stronger the fastest.
Kana: OK, but I'm not gonna be the one to lose! That's a promise!

Kana: Hey, Papa? There's something I wanted to ask you about, if that's OK...
Asugi: Yeah? What do you need, little man?
Kana: Well, see, it's Mama. She's always treating me like a child.
Asugi: Of course she is. You're her son. It doesn't matter how old you get, she'll always think of you as her child.
Kana: I know, I know. I just mean I'm not as much of a child as I used to be. I want to help out more. But whenever I try, she just tells me to go play with my friends instead.
Asugi: I see. You want some responsibilities of your own.
Kana: Right! I want to be someone she can rely on. Do you have any ideas for things I could do for her?
Asugi: Hm... Usually, I just tend to share my candy with her. She's got a bigger sweet tooth than you'd think.
Kana: And that makes her happy?
Asugi: Oh, sure. You should see how she smiles when I bring her a candy apple.
Kana: Oh...
Asugi: But I suppose that's not of much use to you, huh? Let me think...
Kana: Oh, I know! Let's have a contest, Papa!
Asugi: A contest? What kind of contest?
Kana: Yeah! We'll have a contest to see which of us can make Mama happier. Between the two of us, I'm sure we can come up with all sorts of things. Whoever gets thanked the most wins!
Asugi: A little father-son competition, huh? Sounds fun. All right. I'm in.
Kana: Woohoo!
Asugi: But let me warn you. I'm the one that won your mother's heart. You're going to have a tough time if you aim to beat me. And I'm not going to go easy on you, you hear?
Kana: That's fine with me, Papa. I'm gonna beat you fair and square!
Asugi: Heh... Then let the games begin!

B Support

Kana: Hey, Papa! I've been making a ton of progress on our contest! How about you?
Asugi: Well, I haven't done anything special yet, but I've still gotten quite a few thanks. Let's see, I've got a tally here... Ah! There it is.
Kana: WOW! That's a lot! You got all of these already?
Asugi: Yeah, I guess I never noticed just how much I do for her before... I guess I make a pretty good husband after all.
Kana: Well...I'm still not gonna lose! Here, see! I recorded all mine, too. And the total is...um...
Asugi: H-hey! What is this?! You've got the same number I do!
Kana: I do? I do! Haha! Kana's gonna beat you big-time! After all, I don't have to work, so I can spend all day doing things for Mama!
Asugi: Ah, so that's your secret. And just what have you been doing with all that time?
Kana: Mostly I've been trying to help out around camp. I spend each morning making arrows for the fletchers. Then at lunch I cut up the vegetables for the cooks and hand out the food. Oh! And at night, I make sure the mounts are all fed and outfitted for the next day. Plus I do a bunch of other little things whenever I have time!
Asugi: That's quite a lot of work. And you've been doing this every day? Heh. You really have grown up, haven't you?
Kana: Huh?
Asugi: Just a thought. Perhaps I have been treating you like too much of a child as well. Wasn't that long ago that you were just a little babe in swaddling clothes. And now, all of a sudden, you're making real, important contributions to the army.
Kana: Heehee. Yeah, I've been working real hard. Soon there'll be nothing I can't do!
Asugi: I believe it. And I bet Corrin is very grateful for all the good work you've been doing.
Kana: "Good work"... Hm. I just realized...Mama hasn't really been saying "thank you" to me very much. She just tells me "good work" and smiles. It's kind of a sad smile, come to think of it...
Asugi: Mm. I wouldn't overthink it. You're doing good work. And more importantly, this means you've been cheating me, you little wart! The contest was to see who could get thanked the most!
Kana: Haha! I guess you're right. But I'm still not gonna lose to you, Papa! I won't sleep until Mama thanks me twice as much!
Asugi: (Grrr...this might be harder than I'd thought.)

A Support

Kana: *grumble*
Asugi: Hey there, Kana.
Kana: Hi, Papa...
Asugi: Something the matter? I would have expected you to be exulting over your little victory the other day. Or has beating your old man in a contest already lost its novelty?
Kana: Oh, no, Papa. I'm still happy about that, I guess. It's just that I was trying to do things for Mama earlier, but she made me stop. She said I should be spending more time playing around with my friends. She still thinks I'm just a kid. Haven't I shown her I can help out with stuff too? Am I messing up? Is she just pretending I'm doing a good job?
Asugi: Oh, is that it? Don't worry, it's not you. You're doing a great job.
Kana: Then why doesn't she want me to help with anything?
Asugi: I think Corrin knows full well you're capable of taking on responsibilities. But it makes her worry. And it makes her feel lonely.
Kana: Huh? Why?
Asugi: Well, she doesn't want you to miss out on your childhood. And she doesn't want to lose her baby boy. She's happy to see you growing up, but she's worried you won't need her anymore.
Kana: But...I'm just trying to pull my own weight. I don't get why that would be a bad thing...
Asugi: Heh. I'm not sure I do either. But here's a suggestion for you. Keep helping Mama like you have been, but don't work yourself quite as hard. Take breaks to see your friends and play games and all that. And it wouldn't hurt to try and spend some quality time with her now and then. Think you can handle that?
Kana: But...
Asugi: Hm? Do you not want to spend time with your mother?
Kana: No, that's not it! It's just...I feel like that stuff is for babies.
Asugi: No, Kana. It's not for babies. It's for children. And she wants you to be a child for just a little while longer. We both do.
Kana: Papa...
Asugi: Kana, we know you're growing up and that you want to be relied upon. You're going to be a great man someday. Everybody knows it. But for now...just relax. Enjoy yourself. At least a little bit, here and there.
Kana: OK... Thanks, Papa. I'll think real hard about everything you've said.
Asugi: Good. You know... I think it would be good if you spent some quality time with your mother tonight. Have a relaxing night in, just the two of you.
Kana: W-wait! Aren't you gonna stay with us?
Asugi: What? Oh, no, I have some honey cakes to se—
Kana: But, Papa! Don't you need to take a break sometimes too? I thought you wanted me and Mama to be happy!
Asugi: A-all right. Sure. When you put it like that...
Kana: Yaaay!
Asugi: Heh. So. A night in with the family, huh...? You know, I think it won't be half-bad.

Kana: Asugi! Asugi! Let's play hide-and-seek!
Asugi: Whoa, slow down. Play what now?
Kana: I want to play a game...in which one person hides...and the other seeks. That's what it's called—
Asugi: Yeah, yeah. Got it. Hide-and-seek. Why you asking me?
Kana: Because it's fun!
Asugi: No, ME. Why you asking ME?
Kana: You're a thief.
Asugi: Yeah? So what?
Kana: Thieves are supposed to be great at hiding, right?
Asugi: True enough. I am, anyway.
Kana: Then you're a worthy foe. Because I am really good at hide-and-seek. I need someone just as good to challenge for the title of Best Hide-and-Seeker Ever!
Asugi: You gotta be kidding me. Hmph. Fine then. I can't have someone showing me up in the fine art of stealth. I accept your challenge.
Kana: Thanks, Asugi.
Asugi: Who's gonna hide first?
Kana: You hide! You hide! I'll count to 100, and then I'll come seeking! Wait until I start, OK?
Asugi: ......
(Asugi leaves)
Kana: Wait! Uh, one, two, three...

B Support

Asugi: Where IS that girl? Ugh, that Kana can't show me up. Not again. Last time we played hide-and-seek, she found me right away. Is she just as good at hiding too? Ugh, or am I off my game? Forget this. I'm not going to keep running in circles. All right, Kana! I admit defeat!
Kana: That's two for two.
Asugi: EEEEP! Where'd you—? Wait! Were you in that hole?! Where'd that hole even come from?!
Kana: Told you I'm good.
Asugi: Yeah, good at digging holes! Is that even allowed in this game? How'd a little twerp like you even DIG such a big hole?
Kana: I turned into a dragon, clawed myself a burrow, and then stayed put. Ta-da!
Asugi: That has GOT to be against the rules.
Kana: You have your skills. I have mine. Ta-da!
Asugi: All right. Fair enough. And you can stop with the ta-da. It's giving me a headache. I've lost twice in a row. But next time it's my turn to hide. You won't find me.
Kana: Yes, I will.
Asugi: Nope. Not with the title of Best Hide-and-Seeker Ever on the line.
Kana: Until next time then, Asugi!

A Support

Kana: Where's that darn Asugi? I thought I knew all the good places to hide. He'd better be here somewhere. I bet he just went off and left me. Are you even HERE, Asugi? You can't just QUIT! Ugh, that dummy.
Asugi: Dummy, huh?
Kana: Ack! You...you...you... You were a tree!
Asugi: Heh. That's about the size of it, Little Miss Dragon. Not all of us can transform. So I made myself a tree costume.
Kana: That's brilliant! I must have walked right by you a million times!
Asugi: Yep. You did. I could barely stop myself from laughing.
Kana: If you can hide like that, then I don't stand a chance. You really are a master thief!
Asugi: Eh. You're not half-bad yourself. But I'm still down by one loss. Let's go again. You hide.
Kana: Sure! But we know each other's secret tricks now.
Asugi: I've always got more tricks up my sleeve, Little Miss Dragon.
Kana: All right. Start counting!
(Kana leaves)
Asugi: Heh. One, two, three...

S Support

Kana: Asugi! Asugi!
Asugi: EEEEP! KANA! Er, I mean, it's not a good idea to surprise a master thief, Kana. You wouldn't sneak up on a viper in the grass, would ya? I mean, I hope you wouldn't.
Kana: Of course not. But your back was turned, so I...couldn't help myself!
Asugi: I suppose you want to play hide-and-seek again. We're still tied for the title of Best Whatever Ever.
Kana: No, I'm not up for a game today. I just came over to say thanks.
Asugi: For what?
Kana: For playing hide-and-seek with me!
Asugi: Nah. No thanks needed. It's been fun. A way to keep my skills sharp too.
Kana: And, uh, there's another thing... I'm wondering if, er... if we can keep playing for the title of Best Hide-and-Seeker forever!
Asugi: What?! Then what's the point?!
Kana: We're always tied for the title. So I think we should play until we're old. After a lifetime, we'll finally know which of us is truly best.
Asugi: Uh, that's quite a commitment, Kana.
Kana: But you want to know, right? Which of us is the absolute master?
Asugi: Huh. Yeah. I do. I guess. All right then. Challenge accepted. A game of hide-and-seek for life.
Kana: I said until we're OLD, Asugi. I want a few years to enjoy my victory!
Asugi: Eighty years from today then. That sounds about right. Right, Kana?
Kana: Eighty years it is.
Asugi: We'll meet every day for a game. No, two games.
Kana: Yes! We'll each take a turn hiding. And in eighty years we'll know...
Asugi: ...Yeah, which of us is TRULY the Best Hide-and-Seeker Ever.

Asugi: *sigh* Where the heck did Shigure go? It seems unlikely that he would be in the hills or fields, but... he wasn't anywhere around camp.
Shigure: *singing*
Asugi: Wait, there he is! I wonder what he's doing out here? Why is he sitting on that tree trunk? And who are all those peopl— WHAT?! Those aren't people... They're forest animals! Bears, rabbits...even wolves. And they're all sitting there so quietly.
Shigure: I think that's enough for one day. Did you all enjoy it?
Asugi: I-it looks like he's trying to talk with them.
Shigure: Ah? Who's there?! Oh no! Come back!
Asugi: Ack! Wow, they're running really fast. Sorry about that, Shigure.
Shigure: You just startled them, Asugi. And you startled me too! But don't worry about it. They can't help being a little shy. So tell me, what are you doing all the way out here?
Asugi: I came looking for you, actually. Growing up so far apart prevented us from spending any time together. So I was thinking we could get to know each other. After all, we're brothers.
Shigure: Oh, I don't know what to say. I'm really not the most interesting person around... You might have more fun talking with someone more outgoing.
Asugi: What? But you're my sibling. Come on, I'll even share my tastiest candy with you. It's so good!
Shigure: Please, don't feel obligated to try and be my friend, just because of that. Honestly, I'm not in the most social mood right now. If you'll excuse me...
(Shigure leaves)
Asugi: H-hey, come back! Geez, what the heck is up with him?

B Support

Asugi: *groan* Shigure's been missing all day. Maybe he went back to that pretty clearing in the hills. I bet all those forest animals are sitting around with him, too... Heheh. Would you look at that. I was right! Hey, Shigure!!
Shigure: Asugi?! What are you doing out here? Ah! Oh no! Wait! Asugi: Ohh, I scared them all away again... Sorry about that.
Shigure: Don't worry about it. They aren't used to other people being around here. It's easy to startle them.
Asugi: Ah, that makes sense. It's amazing how you tamed all these wild animals from the forest. We might have the same parents, but I could never pull that off.
Shigure: Why were you looking for me again? Did you need something?
Asugi: ...Yeah. Fate made us brothers, but we barely know each other. We should spend some time hanging out.
Shigure: Oh, I see... Listen, I'm sorry for being rude the other day. We can talk today if you really want to. I'm your brother, and the last thing I want to do is let you down.
Asugi: Really? You mean it? I promise I won't get in your way. Why don't you call back all the animals?
Shigure: Honestly, I don't think they'll want to come back while you're here.
Asugi: Why not? But they all seemed to love you. If I try hard, maybe I could make friends with them too. Say, is there some secret way to get them to like me?
Shigure: Hmm... I'm not sure if this will help, but... Animals are highly attuned to the feelings of people around them. Most likely, they detected something in you that drove them off.
Asugi: Something bad? Sure, I might seem deadly in a fight, but not when I'm surrounded by cute animals.
Shigure: They can sense what you were thinking. Were you sizing them up to figure out which one might make a tasty dinner? Even just for a moment?
Asugi: Don't be ridiculous. All I ever want to do is chow down on sweets.
Shigure: Of course, I'm sorry. That's just the biggest reason I could think of for them to run away. I appreciate how sincere you are about befriending them. I'll try to think of what can be done to make them feel safe around you. I'm happy to help out my loyal brother.
Asugi: You mean it? I'm counting on you!

A Support

Asugi: Hey, Shigure...
Shigure: What's wrong, Asugi? You look troubled.
Asugi: Well, I've just been thinking about those animals you're friends with...
Shigure: Oh? Did you want to go pay them a visit? I was just about to head in that direction if you want to come along. Do you think you're ready to prove that you don't mean them any harm?
Asugi: No, I, umm... I've just been thinking more about why they ran away from me. You were right about them detecting something off about me...
Shigure: What do you mean? Were you feeling some strong emotion when you arrived?
Asugi: It made me a little jealous when I saw you treating them so well. I felt like it was unfair that you wanted to hang out with them but not me. That's why they ran away. They could feel my animosity toward them. I was just being a selfish jerk.
Shigure: Asugi, I'm glad you thought about this and talked to me.
Asugi: The point is, I'm not going out there again.
Shigure: Don't say that! You should absolutely go back. You've opened up, and the animals will be able to tell you've changed. I think they'll be more welcoming.
Asugi: Huh? I'm not sure...
Shigure: Well I am. You didn't have to say that you were feeling jealous, but you did anyway. That tells me that you've got a good soul inside of you. They'll be able to see that, too. Look! There's a rabbit coming this way!
Asugi: Wh-whoa! Wait, what do I do?
Shigure: Just calm down... Relax, and take a breath. Quiet your mind, and be peaceful... Just think about how you want to be friends with the furry critter.
Asugi: Y-yeah, OK, I'll try... Look! He's letting me pet him! The little guy wants me to be his friend!
Shigure: See? I told you it would all be fine.
Asugi: Yeah, I guess you were right after all!
Shigure: Now you can meet all of the other animals! I think you will get along with everyone. Let's wander to the clearing in the woods— I bet your new friends will be waiting there.
Asugi: OK! Lead the way, Shigure!

Dwyer: I'm better than I look, huh?

Dwyer: Nah... I'm good. Too much work.
Asugi: Hey! You can't just quit while you're ahead like that!
Dwyer: I'm not quitting. I'm just, uh...quitting. Sorry. Too sleepy. Can't think.
Asugi: Grrr. Well, what if I offer you one of my special peach cobblers? They're amazing! Practically melt in your mouth.
Dwyer: Nah. I can bake my own sweets.
Asugi: F-fine! I'll let you off. But on one condition! You've gotta tell me how you got so good! I never see you doing any training. And... to be honest, you don't look that tough.
Dwyer: Eh. Yeah. You're right. This was probably just a fluke. Now, I think it's nap time. Later, sweet cheeks.

Dwyer: What the—? Asugi?! How long have you been there?
Asugi: Since this morning!
Dwyer: Wh-why? Are you...trying to spy on my sleeping?
Asugi: Er— Not...really. I just want to know how you're such a good fighter! But you didn't even train! You barely even left your bed!
Dwyer: Course I didn't train. That's way too much effort. I'm no fool.
Asugi: Grrr. And how can you be so tired when you spend the entire day sleeping, anyway?
Dwyer: Eh...I dunno. I guess it's just how I feel. Sorry to disappoint.
Asugi: But...how...? How are you so good?
Dwyer: My old man sort of beat it into me back when I was younger. Guess I just never lost the instinct for it. I worked pretty hard back then. All there is to it, really.
Asugi: Well, I'm jealous. Not many people can live so lazily and maintain skills like yours.
Dwyer: Yeah. Life is cruel. So anyway, I need to get some shut-eye. Big day tomorrow. Just like today. So if you could just see yourself out...
(Dwyer leaves)
Asugi: Damn him... This might have been my worst recon mission yet...

Dwyer: Asugi...
Asugi: Yeah, Naps?
Dwyer: ...Why are we having a tea party? Thought you wanted a rematch.
Asugi: Bingo. And that's exactly what we're doing.
Dwyer: I'm pretty sure we're just eating pastries and drinking tea... Is this what the kids call rematches these days? Huh... That's new... Neat.
Asugi: Look, I gave up on trying to nab the secret to your fighting abilities. Wasting a whole day watching you sleep was enough. I'm not subjecting myself to more of that. Which is why I decided to have a different type of competition with you. I call it the... WHOSE-BAKED-SWEETS-ARE-BETTER SHOWDOWN!
Dwyer: ...Oh. OK.
Asugi: Heh. So now you understand?
Dwyer: Yep. I'd say this is your win.
Asugi: Huh?
Dwyer: I mean, your stuff is way better than mine. Check out these little bean fish things. What did you call them? Taiyaki? They're great. And these rice cakes...oh man. You're pretty amazing at this stuff, Asugi. Where'd you learn it all?
Asugi: Feh. I can't tell you that. Maybe if you spied on me, you could find out...
Dwyer: Eh... Nah. Too much effort...
Asugi: Ngh...
Dwyer: And, you know...I think this is probably more of a draw anyways.
Asugi: Wh-what?! But you said I won! You can't take that back!
Dwyer: Well, I didn't just bring sweets. I brewed some coffee as well. I don't know how you tasted it through all that sugar, but you seemed to like it a lot. You kept going on about how good it was. And isn't that your eighth cup?
Asugi: Hm...I suppose you've got a point.
Dwyer: So, how 'bout it. Do you know how to make coffee? Let's have another rematch.
Asugi: D-dammit! Enough! No! I'm not going to spy on you again to get your coffee-brewing secrets!
Dwyer: Well...you could always play fair. But if you really want to know, you can just ask.
Asugi: Really?! Then I'll take you up on that!
Dwyer: Yeah, no problem. It's pretty easy to do. Way easier than sparring, anyway. But I have one condition. You gotta teach me how to make that taiyaki stuff.
Asugi: I see... All right, Naps. You're on.
Dwyer: Sweet. Well, I'm full, so I'm gonna go lie down.
Asugi: Huh? So you're not going to teach me now?
Dwyer: Well, to quote a wise man, "I would prefer not to."
Asugi: You— You— Fine! I'll wait until you wake up! But you're teaching me as soon as you do! All right?!

Sophie: Oh! Hiya, Asugi!
Asugi: Hey there, Fumbles. Impressive work, saving the baggage train like that.
Sophie: Thanks! Those bandits sure gave us a run for our money, huh?
Asugi: Mhm. Trying to round up the horses afterward was even worse, though. When they get scared like that, there's no stopping them. And one of them even threw off the saddlebag of suckers I'd stashed on it. No discipline in the army these days...
Sophie: Yeah, that was awful! I thought I was going to get trampled to death for sure!
Asugi: Haha. Trampled to death is a little dramatic, isn't it? With a mount like Avel, you should be used to dodging hooves by now. By jelly, I'd even say he's worse than 10 of those stampeding horses. Anyway, I'm glad things worked out. Plus it was good exercise.
Sophie: I-I guess so.
Asugi: Huh? Something wrong?
Sophie: Oh...it's just...you're always so breezy about things, no matter what. Whenever there's trouble, I always end up running around in a panic. Even now, I'm still pretty shaken up about the whole bandit-raid thing. I guess I'm just jealous. Haha!
Asugi: Heh. Gee, thanks, Fumbles. I appreciate it. But there's no need to be jealous. Like I said, YOU were the one who saved the baggage train. Anyways, I gotta go. Heard there was some sugarcane growing around here...

Sophie: I wish I could say... I just wanted to try a special new recipe, and next thing I knew... Boom! Ahaha...ha...ha.
Asugi: "Boom," huh? Heh. Oh well. Not much we can do about it now.
Sophie: B-but how are we going to clean all this up?! That hole especially is going to take forever to fix...
Asugi: Yeah, you're right. But I think we can handle it just fine. I'll be right back. I'm gonna go grab some tools.
Sophie: O-OK...
(fade to black)
Sophie: Phew. That took so much less time than I thought it would! Thanks, Asugi!
Asugi: Eh, it was nothing. I've spent a lot of time working in kitchens and repairing things.
Sophie: I had no idea! No wonder you were so calm when you saw that mess!
Asugi: Naw, I don't think it was that. I think it was you, actually.
Sophie: Huh? I kept you calm? How?
Asugi: Well...how can I put this? You know how sometimes little kids go crazy? Like, they run around, and bump into things, and scream, and cry and stuff? And you know that you've gotta be the calm one and take care of things? It was like that!
Sophie: Is that really how you see me?
Asugi: W-well, er, I mean...you're not a child, but...ah... I'm sorry. I didn't— I just meant...you do sort of panic a lot.
Sophie: Oh... Yeah. I guess you're right... I think I'm gonna go now. Thanks again, Asugi.

Sophie: Hey, Asugi. I wanted to thank you for the other day.
Asugi: Oh, Fumbles. Hey. You mean for the kitchen?
Sophie: Nope! Something else.
Asugi: Oh? Then what?
Sophie: Well, in our last skirmish, I was caught alone next to some enemy forces.
Asugi: Wait, when was this? I don't think I was there.
Sophie: Yeah, I was alone...and I started to panic. I was so scared, I couldn't think straight. But then I remembered what you said about me being like a crazy little kid.
Asugi: Ah, look, I feel real awful about that—
Sophie: No, hang on. It was a good thing! Because there was no way I was going to let you be right about my being a baby! And I thought about how you always are in combat. Calm. Observant. Collected. And I knew what I had to do. I just had to assess the situation and deal with it. When I looked around again, I realized they were advancing in another direction. So I charged their flank, scattered them, and made off without a scratch!
Asugi: Nice work! But, ah, I didn't do a thing. No need to thank me.
Sophie: Sure, but the only reason I was able to do what I did was because of you! If you hadn't been such an insensitive jerk, I'd never have been mad enough to focus! So I wanted to thank you. For being you.
Asugi: Haha. Well, whatever works. I AM sorry about that, though.
Sophie: Water under the bridge! I'm just happy I got to know you.
Asugi: Same to you, Fumbles. You're a pretty swell lady. And I'm glad to call you my friend.

Sophie: Yeah...I just... I didn't know what to do. They surrounded me... I could have died.
Asugi: Hey, it's OK. It's OK. They've been routed. It's done with. Remember the last time this happened? You knocked 'em over like it was nothing. Just charged the whole lot. I bet the same thing would have worked this time.
Sophie: But that's the problem! This time wasn't like last time! Last time wasn't as bad. But here...there were so many of them. If you all hadn't pushed through at the last second...I might not be here right now. And last time, I could focus because I was angry and wanted to prove you wrong. What do I do when I don't have that?
Asugi: Sophie... I don't know. That's not something anyone can figure out but you. But I'll tell you what. Until you do, we won't let you get cut off alone again. Because I'll be right by your side from now on. OK?
Sophie: Asugi...
Asugi: I don't know what I'd do if I lost you, Sophes. And I know you've got the strength in you to handle anything. But until you find it...know you can rely on me. OK? I...I, um... Well, it's like this...
Sophie: Heehee. Sounds like somebody's in luuurve with me!
Asugi: Hey! I'm being serious here! And so what if I am?!
Sophie: Aw. I'm only teasing! Thank you, Asugi. It means a lot to me. And...maybe I feel something for you too.
Asugi: Just...maybe?
Sophie: Well...MAYBE I'm also sort of totally infatuated! But I guess you'd never know...unless you took me out!
Asugi: Heh. I reckon I could do that. I know of this bakery, next town over, actually. Best cake you'll ever taste!

Midori: Hmph.
Asugi: Hm? Something wrong, Doc?
Midori: Huh? Oh, not really. This herb here just reminded me of something. Father and Uncle Saizo argued about it once.
Asugi: Argued? Over a plant?
Midori: Yeah. They couldn't agree on how it was best applied. One said you should boil it and drink the tea. The other said to apply it directly. It started just as shouting, but it turned into a huge fistfight.
Asugi: They fought in front of you? Hmph. What children.

Asugi: Uh-huh, got it! Later!
(Asugi leaves)
Midori: I've got a bad feeling about this...

B Support

Midori: Asugiiiiiiiii!
Asugi: Hnnggg...
Midori: Are you OK?! I heard you were sick!
Asugi: Y-yeah. Just a bit...under the— *blorchhh* Haahhhh... Hahhhh... Under the weather...
Midori: Ooh. Black vomit. That's not a good sign... Wait! I recognize those chunks! Did you drink too much of my tonic?!
Asugi: M-maybe. ...Yeah. OK. I did— Oh gods, not again—
Midori: You big dummy! I told you it'd make you sick.
Asugi: Hghloorrrrrf!
Midori: Most medicine is poisonous in high enough amounts, Asugi... You should know this. Shouldn't Saizo have taught you better?
Asugi: You'd think...he'd have done...a lot of things...better. *pant* Hnnnnnffff.
Midori: Hmm... Hey! I've got an idea! I'm gonna start making you some real sweets!
Asugi: Huh? Wh-why?
Midori: Because! It's my responsibility to make sure my patient is taken care of.
Asugi: What? Not by giving them candy...
Midori: Mhm! Because I have to make sure you'll take the right amount of medicine! So I'll just make some candy that tastes the same as the tonic. Then you can gorge yourself on the candy without any side effects!
Asugi: I guess that would work, but— Hhhhfjffhbgraaaahbhgh! ...Is that...a piece...of my liver...?
Midori: OK! I'll go whip up a batch ASAP!
Asugi: OK... Thanks.

A Support

Midori: Hey, Asugi...
Asugi: What's with the waterworks, Doc? You don't look so good... Huh? And what's that you got there? Bringing someone some medicine?
Midori: No...this is the candy I made for you.
Asugi: Wh-why is it black?! Are those fish scales? Er—I mean, it looks...neat! Look at how cute those blue fuzzies growing on it are! And that purple slime! I bet it's grape flavored! Am I right?
Midori: It's lemon flavored... I'm sorry, Asugi. I thought making candy would be easy. I mean, it's sort of like making medicine, right? But...not enough, I guess. I ruined your gift. I'm a terrible friend.
Asugi: Yeah, candy making isn't for the faint of heart. There's an art to it. You shouldn't underestimate the difficulty of making something just 'cause kids like it.
Midori: I know, I know! I tried really hard though, OK?
Asugi: Haha. OK, OK. I'm sorry. I won't lecture you about it. But I appreciate the thought. It's very sweet of you. Get it? Sweet? Heh heh heh.
Midori: Yeah, yeah, I gotcha, you big dork. You're welcome.
Asugi: Now, let's see how these taste! *chomp chomp*
Midori: Oh no! Asugi, you don't have to do that!
Asugi: *munch munch* Hm... Well, this is certainly unique.
Midori: Unique...?
Asugi: Yeah. In a good way. It's not bad. And you can taste the love worked into it. If you practice enough, I'm sure you'll be making world-famous candy in no time!
Midori: Really? Do you think you could teach me?
Asugi: Sure, why not. How about we try another batch tomorrow?
Midori: OK! Thank you so much!

S Support

Midori: Asugi! Are we making more candy today?
Asugi: Not today, Doc. Today, I've got a gift for you.
Midori: Ooh, really? What is it?
Asugi: It's called Ring Candy. They say when two people share it, they'll be close forever. And so...I thought it would be nice to share some with you, Midori.
Midori: R-really? Are you sure?
Asugi: Of course I am. You're my best friend. And I want us to be that way forever. Long as you keep making me that tonic, I mean. Haha.
Midori: Asugi...be serious for once.
Asugi: I just thought...you're always looking out for me. Making sure I'm not hurt. Whenever I return from a mission, you're there with your apothecary's pack ready. I don't go five minutes after getting cut without you putting a poultice on the thing. It's...nice. And I want you to know that I want to look after you too. I'll always be here to protect you. No matter what.
Midori: And I'll always be there to heal you up! Thank you, Asugi.
Asugi: Now, eat up! To us, forever!

Shiro: Hm? What's all that noise?
Thief: Grrr. Step aside, punk!
(Thief leaves)
Shiro: Wait! Was that—?!
Asugi: Shiro! Did you see someone running through here?!
Shiro: Yeah, he went that way! Was it—
Asugi: Yeah! A thief! He was trying to get into our war chest!
Shiro: And you're chasing him? Let me come with you!
Asugi: No, you'll just get in the way!
Shiro: Oh yeah? Then I'm definitely coming!
Asugi: Whatever! Enough talk! We've got a thief to catch.
(Asugi leaves)
Shiro: *pant pant* Damn it all! He got away.
Asugi: *pant pant* Mother of all criven-hopping blister-arse—
Shiro: Asugi, what the hell was all that about?! I would have gotten him if you just quit trying to push me off the road!
Asugi: I had to. It was too narrow for me to just pass you. You'd never have caught him. I think all that ham in your skull weighs you down.
Shiro: What, so now you're saying it was MY fault?!
Asugi: Yes! That is exactly what I'm saying!
Shiro: How dare you?!
Asugi: How dare YOU say it was ME?!
Shiro: Look, you little— You know what? No. Not going to do this.
Asugi: If you've got something to say, then say it! What is it, huh?! Mad you didn't get your way? Well, I'm not your damn retainer! So don't expect me to just scrape and bow, you royal sack of shallots!
Shiro: Don't worry, I don't. And I wasn't going to say anything like that anyway.
Asugi: Well, then what WERE you going to say?
Shiro: Forget it. There's no point arguing over what happened here. I'm going back to camp to give my report. I'll see you later.
Asugi: Hmph. Fine. Like I care.

B Support

Shiro: Asugi.
Asugi: What do you need?
Shiro: About the thief that got away the other day...
Asugi: You're still on about that? I thought we already settled it. No point in arguing over who was right.
Shiro: Yeah, I know. Which is why that's NOT what I came here to talk about.
Asugi: Oh? Then please, enlighten me.
Shiro: I don't want to argue over who messed up. I want to figure out how we can do better. So if something like this happens again, we'll be able to handle it.
Asugi: Ah, I see. Yeah, I think that's good. Don't torture ourselves over it. Just learn from it.
Shiro: So, you said that I should have just let you pass. Did you have any other suggestions?
Asugi: Well, see, I thought about it more, and there's actually a better solution. One of us should have continued to chase him while the other tried to cut him off.
Shiro: Ah, I see. The thief would have been heading to the nearest exit. And if you know where he's headed, you can ambush him before he gets there.
Asugi: Yeah, exactly.
Shiro: Then next time anything like this happens, let's do that. I'll admit, you were right about being the faster one, so you should do the chasing. And while you do that, I'll try to head them off at the exit. Sound good?
Asugi: Yeah, perfect. Stick to the plan, and we'll bag ourselves the next thief for sure. You know, you might have some brains knocking around up there after all. I'm impressed.
Shiro: Heh. I'll pretend that that's a compliment. Just remember the plan. I'll be counting on you, ya hear?
Asugi: Right back at you.

Asugi: Hey there. What's going on?!
Shiro: We've discovered an enemy spy in our camp!
Asugi: What?! And where is he now?!
Shiro: We think he's hiding somewhere among the tents on the eastern edge of camp. He's probably going to try to make a run for the forest!
Asugi: I see. Well, this isn't quite the situation we'd imagined, but—
Shiro: Way ahead of you. We're gonna have to put our little plan to the test. You smoke him out. I'll surprise him at the gate. All right?
Asugi: Sounds good to me. Let's go!
(Shiro leaves)
Asugi: *pant pant* Stop right there, you dastard!
Thief: D-damn it! Just a little bit farther, and I'll be home free...
(Asugi leaves)
Shiro: HRRRRRAAAAGH!!!
Thief: What?! Where did you come from? Well, wherever you were hiding, I'm gonna gut you real good, all the same!
Shiro: Think so, huh? Well, take this, scum!
Thief: Aaaaagh!
Shiro: Yield. You cannot win with a wound like that.
Thief: F-fine... I surrender.
Shiro: Good. Asugi! We got him!
(Thief leaves)
Asugi: *pant pant* I'm...right here. Good to see...you got him.
Shiro: Well done, Asugi. Your plan worked without a hitch.
Asugi: Heh. I couldn't have done it without you.
Shiro: You know, we make a pretty good team.
Asugi: Yeah, we do. Maybe I should start swearing the retainer's oath now, eh? How about it, Shiro?
Shiro: Heh. Don't go saying things you don't mean, Asugi.
Asugi: Haha. You got me.
Shiro: Besides, that might be the right fit for our fathers, but I don't think it is for us. We work better as partners. Not as lord and servant.
Asugi: Whatever you think is best. I suppose it wouldn't kill me to accept you as my equal.
Shiro: Haha. Yeah, yeah.
Asugi: Now, let's haul this guy back. Can't very well just leave him here like this. I don't have any strength left, though. Think you can carry him? Eh? Partner?
Shiro: Oh, so THAT'S how this is gonna be, huh? Heh. Fine. Next time, though, YOU get to drag the prisoner back.
(Asugi leaves)

Selkie: This is soooooo exciting!
Asugi: Selkie?! What are you doing here? Keep your voice down!
Selkie: Oh, sorry! I'll be quiet. EEEEEE! He's ducking into that abandoned cottage! Soooooo exciting!
Asugi: Shh! He's gonna hear us! And you never answered me... What are you doing here?
Selkie: Well, you're following that guy, right?
Asugi: Yes. I've been instructed to keep an eye on him. Some people think he may be a spy.
Selkie: So...I'm just helping you! It seemed like a fun chase game.
Asugi: But this isn't a game, Selkie. It's a dangerous mission!
Selkie: Well, that's why I'm here to help, silly.
Asugi: You don't understand. I'm a trained ninja. This is what I do. I don't need any help! It's more likely that you'll just blow my cover.
Selkie: Oh, please. You know I'm a kitsune, right? Or did you not notice my fluffy tail? Anyway, I'm probably the best hunter you've ever met. I can be soooooo stealthy!
Asugi: Well, first of all, we're not tracking an animal here. We're tracking a man. Secondly, I'm sure you could be quite stealthy... if you could stop talking for five whole seconds!
Selkie: I can be quiet. Just watch. ... See!
Asugi: Ugh, fine! Keep that up, and I guess you can tag along.
Selkie: Yay!

Asugi: Ugh...

Asugi: Yeah, about that. I don't want you coming with me anymore.
Selkie: Aww! Why not?
Asugi: Because I work better alone.
Selkie: But it wasn't my fault that he got away. I was off chasing a rabbit, remember?
Asugi: That may be true, but you distracted me. And your incessant LOUD chatter has got to stop.
Selkie: Fine! Whatever. I don't care. I won't help you anymore.
Asugi: Excellent. That's just what I wanted to hear. It's for your own good, you know? Spying isn't a game—it's dangerous!
Selkie: Says you.
(Selkie leaves)
Asugi: Well, that was unpleasant... Had to be done, though. Now, to pick up where I left off...

Selkie: Ha! I can't believe he fell for that. Like I'd give up that easily. I'll show him just how talented I am...

Selkie: Haha! Well, Asugi? What do you have to say NOW? Am I or am I not the bestest hunter you've ever met?
Asugi: Well...you did find the target's secret hideout after I lost track of him... But I'm not exactly sure how...
Selkie: Hah! That's for me to know. I told you I'm a great tracker.
Asugi: I just don't get it. You weren't even paying attention... How'd you know where to go?
Selkie: OK, I'll tell you. Remember when I stepped on that branch and made a loud noise?
Asugi: I certainly do. I can't believe you gave away our position like that.
Selkie: Well, dum-dum, I did it on purpose! Once he thought he'd shaken us, he let down his guard. Then I was able to sneak off separately and follow him. It was great teamwork...even if you didn't know we were working together.
Asugi: I see. I've heard of that tactic before. But I've never heard of it actually working...
Selkie: So, what do you think about letting me tag along on your missions now? You see how helpful I can be, right?
Asugi: I can't deny your talent... But you really must do something about the chatter!
Selkie: Yay! I'll take that as a yes. You won't regret this, Asugi!
Asugi: We'll see about that...

Selkie: Are you serious? But you said I could come along! Remember how good I am?
Asugi: That's true...but this mission is pretty dangerous.
Selkie: That's exactly why you need my help. So, what gives?
Asugi: I...I don't want to see you hurt. I care about you.
Selkie: Now what are you talking about? Is this some kind of test?
Asugi: No! I really care about you, Selkie.
Selkie: Oh, is that all?
Asugi: Is that all?! How can you say that? I'm spilling my guts here—confessing my love!
Selkie: I just didn't know you felt the same way, silly. Isn't it obvious I've been flirting with you this whole time?
Asugi: R-really?
Selkie: Jeez, for a ninja, you're pretty clueless sometimes. Either that or I forgot how to flirt. Ha! Anyway, I don't want to see you go off on a dangerous mission alone either.
Asugi: Well... Thank you, Selkie. I'm sorry for being so oblivious.
Selkie: That's OK. So, now that we both officially like each other, can we be a couple?
Asugi: Er...yes. I think that's how this kind of thing works... But does it have to be so awkward? Maybe we should start over.
Selkie: OK, how's this? Hey, Asugi? Want to go on an incredibly dangerous scouting mission with me? Oh, and then kiss afterward? Heehee!
Asugi: That's not helping with the awkwardness, Selkie...

Hisame: G-Gramps?! I'm younger than you are, you wastrel! Bah. Never mind. Why have you not been attending the Tactics Brunch?
Asugi: Huh? Oh, that thing? It's not mandatory, right? Figured it wasn't worth going. I'm no officer. I carry out orders, not give them.
Hisame: Don't be a fool. Tactical understanding is vital to every soldier's training. And if you don't discuss battle plans with others, you'll never hone your thinking. Also we serve éclairs. You are fond of such treats, yes?
Asugi: R-really?! Nobody told me that...
Hisame: So. Do you have any reason for absenting yourself?
Asugi: Not really, no. Just figured I had nothing to contribute. We've got enough talented tacticians. Too many cooks'll spoil the cake.
Hisame: I disagree. If you were to participate, I believe we would all benefit greatly. New perspectives are always valuable. Particularly from highly skilled parties. However, if you do decide to come, I implore you to take it seriously. This devil-may-care attitude of yours will not do.

Asugi: I forget something, Gramps? Weren't you in the middle of talking to someone?
Hisame: Why did you leave right in the middle of a discussion?
Asugi: Oh. That's what you ran all the way out here for? I just remembered that my cinnamon rolls should be about done!
Hisame: Huh?
Asugi: I put some in the oven right before the meeting. Don't want 'em to burn, right? Oh man, I can't wait for that frosting. Stuff melts in your mouth!
Hisame: Y-you left for THAT?! How ridiculous...
Asugi: Haha. Don't have a stroke, Gramps. Much as I'd like to believe otherwise, I'm sure everyone will be all right without me. Now, I gotta go. Those cinnamon rolls ain't gonna eat themselves.
(Asugi leaves)
Hisame: Hey! Stop! I'm not done with you!
(fade to black)
Hisame: Where did that dastard run off to? He wasn't even in the kitchen... ... I-is that Asugi? In the library? What is he reading...? "The Subjugation of the Peoples of the Upper Southlands: A Tactical Overview" What a mouthful. So, then...is he studying warfare all by himself? But...why?

A Support

Hisame: Asugi! I must speak to you about something. Regarding your attendance—or, rather, lack thereof—at the Tactics Brunch.
Asugi: Gramps! Lemme guess. You saw me ducking out to the library, right? Took you long enough. I thought you'd never catch on.
Hisame: So you know why I'm here, then. Well? What do you have to say?
Asugi: Yes, I've been studying up on the finer points of tactics and strategy. And no, I have no intention of attending more of those brunches. Tasty as those cream-filled éclairs may be.
Hisame: But why? You could get far more out of these studies if you came.
Asugi: Just a rule of thumb.
Hisame: What kind of rule, exactly?
Asugi: Ninja work best alone or in small groups. There's a reason for that. The more conspicuous they are, the less suited they'll be to their assignments. Assassination, intelligence gathering...that stuff requires anonymity, stealth. Can't go flashing our mugs around everywhere, you know?
Hisame: I see your point. However, you are not exactly an unknown element of the army.
Asugi: Sure. Those who serve the royals directly rarely escape notice entirely. But there's something else to consider. A ninja walks with death. The earliest part of our training conditions us to accept this fact. And as such, we take pains to ensure that when it comes...nothing is disturbed.
Hisame: What? And how is this related to our meetings?
Asugi: One of the precautions we take is to avoid forming too many personal bonds. Meeting with so many people every week will, obviously, make that difficult. Don't be upset. It's a part of our code. Has been for generations.
Hisame: Oh, I'm not upset. I understand very well. You are a fool.
Asugi: Oh? How's that?
Hisame: That outlook may be appropriate for a truly clandestine asset. But you fight on the battlefield with us, do you not?
Asugi: And?
Hisame: Have you never wondered why warriors do not follow a similar code? It is because camaraderie is an extremely important part of any military unit.
Asugi: So what's your point?
Hisame: Think for 10 seconds. When we fight, we often do so side by side, correct? And when we do, our effectiveness in battle increases. This is not an accident. It is a direct consequence of our mutual bond. So too with the others. If you learn nothing else of tactics, learn this: no warrior is an island. We fight and die, not just for a cause, but for each other. Never forget that.
Asugi: Hmph... Maybe you're right. Heh. You're not as aloof as you look, are you, Gramps?
Hisame: And you are not as shiftless as you appear, either. Perhaps we have learned something here about judging others' appearances.
Asugi: Don't be ridiculous. But...I will try to be a more integrated part of the army from now on. Sorry for the grandstanding. I hadn't considered the situation carefully, I guess.
Hisame: No need to apologize. Your willingness to sacrifice yourself is admirable. Under normal circumstances, it would not be misguided. Even so...I must admit my wish to dissuade you was not entirely impersonal. I want you to know that I am always here for you...my friend.
Asugi: I know. And I'll always have your back as well, Hisame.

Asugi: Hey there, Star. I got a question for ya.
Mitama: Yes? What is it?
Asugi: Rumor has it there's a shrine out there in the woods. It's supposed to house some sort of dangerous magical scroll. ...You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?
Mitama: A magical scroll?
Asugi: Yep. I've got orders to obtain said scroll at whatever cost. But magical powers and shrines aren't exactly my forte. Which is why I'm coming to you. So, what's the skinny?
Mitama: On what, exactly? Do you want me to tell you how to steal it?
Asugi: No, nothing so hard as that. I just thought you could tell me what to look out for. You know, protective charms, traps, ways to avoid getting cursed for all eternity.
Mitama: The virtues of youth / Will and courage united / Bound in one spirit.
Asugi: Uh...thanks?
Mitama: Do not thank me. Innocent, thy heart / Leads thee to a painful death / Thy courage, folly. Asugi...you must understand, some powers are not to be meddled with. The gods are among them. I recommend you stay far away from those ruins.
Asugi: Hm? Ruins? I didn't say anything about them being ruins. How did you know that?
Mitama: L-lucky guess, I suppose! H-hahaha...ha! I must go now. B-but stay away from those ruins! Bye!
(Mitama leaves)
Asugi: ...Does nobody in this army know how to lie without stuttering? Criminy. Oh well. I'm sure it'll be fine. Worse comes to worst, I'll just hightail it out of there.

Asugi: Oh, Star! Perfect timing. I went to that shrine we talked about.
Mitama: You actually went?! Stupid ninja man / Trespassing on curséd grounds / Death stalks those ruins.
Asugi: What was I supposed to do? I had orders. Doesn't matter anyways. I couldn't get in. Some sort of magical barrier.
Mitama: Ohhh! It's one of THOSE. Well, there is nothing to be done, then. The taste of failure / A bitter medicine, but / Fools take no other.
Asugi: Stop playing dumb. Just how much do you know about this shrine?
Mitama: Not a thing. I s-swear it...
Asugi: You're a bad liar, Star. Why else would you be so intent on my giving up? You know something. Now cut the cabbage. Spill the beans.
Mitama: F-fine. Have it your way. Two magical barriers are in place at that shrine. The first simply prevents entry. That is the one that stopped you. But piercing the second barrier triggers a trap that incinerates the entrant.
Asugi: So that's how it is. Cripes, you weren't kidding about the danger, were you? But I have to ask... How exactly did you come across all this knowledge?
Mitama: It was something of a myth among the shrine maidens I grew up with.
Asugi: Oh? Where did this myth come from?
Mitama: I cannot say...but its authenticity is beyond question.
Asugi: I see. Thanks for the information, Star. With this, I think I've got a plan for how to get around those barriers.
Mitama: Warnings and portents / Visions of a painful end / Nothing stops the fool.
Asugi: Heh. A ninja never abandons his assignment.
Mitama: Then there is no changing your mind. In that case, I'm afraid I must attend you.
Asugi: I'd appreciate that. But are you sure? Thought you hated going outdoors.
Mitama: I do. But I cannot just let you die out of laziness. However tempting that might be. So, please, come to me when you wish to go.
Asugi: Thanks. I appreciate it.
Mitama: The sweetest reward / Is not honey-coated words / But sweetness itself.
Asugi: Got it. You come along, and I'll give you as much candy as you like. Deal?
Mitama: Heehee. Very good. Perhaps this will not be such a pointless venture after all.

A Support

Asugi: Thanks for coming along to the shrine with me, Star. I gotta say, not being turned into a pile of ash by that second barrier made my day.
Mitama: You're quite welcome! Now, about my payment...
Asugi: Yep, no problem. You'll get all the sweets you can eat for a week. Just need to deliver the goods, and we'll head straight back to my candy vault. But I've got to admit...I'm surprised this little thing is so powerful. I don't feel anything coming from it. It just seems like a bunch of paper.
Mitama: Of course it does. That's all it is anymore.
Asugi: Wh-what? You mean it lost its power? How can you tell?
Mitama: No more dissembling / I can't continue the lie / You must know the truth. I was the one who made that scroll.
Asugi: What?
Mitama: I was young and had begun to experiment with the creation of magical scrolls. This was the product of one such experiment... I did not foresee its power. My father was summoned, and immediately he saw its danger. So he had me seal it in those ruins.
Asugi: And why didn't you say anything?
Mitama: I did not know how people would react, knowing I created a thing of such power. They might decide to press me, with the best of intentions, to create another scroll. But such things are far too dangerous for anyone to wield. Besides, I only managed to make this one by accident. I could not do it again.
Asugi: I see. So then, did you dispel its power? Is that why it's inert?
Mitama: No. That is beyond me. It seems the curse merely waned with the passage of time. Now it is nothing more than a scrap of paper.
Asugi: Hm...
Mitama: I must say I was surprised with your stubbornness. Despite repeated warnings that you might die or unlock a great evil, you persisted. I do not know whether that is a sign of idiocy or bravery. But...I think it is worth admiring, so far as such things go.
Asugi: I had orders. That's all.
Mitama: Heehee. But you could have pushed back upon discovering new information, no? Do not deny it. You try to hide, but I see you. You are good, daring, and stubborn.
Asugi: W-well, anyways, I suppose if this thing's useless, I should return it to you, right? Here. It's yours.
Mitama: Thank you. I will make sure it is disposed of properly. Time returns all things / To their home— men to the soil / Scroll to Mitama.

Asugi: Thanks for inviting me out here tonight, Mitama. Just look at all those stars! It's like there are hundreds of you looking down on us.

Asugi: Um. What?
Mitama: I...invited you out here to tell you something, Asugi. Feelings flow anew / Snows melt in the warming spring / Wellspring of passions.
Asugi: Pardon?
Mitama: When I saw your devotion to your mission, I realized that there is another side to you. You are not just a silly, sarcastic boy with an unnatural obsession with sweets. There is a deep seriousness about you, I sense. And I...admire you for it. Deep within my heart / Flowing springs too wide for words / Pure admiration.
Asugi: Er, do you mean—
Mitama: Yes. Asugi...how do you feel about me? For my part, I must admit...my heart beats for you.
Asugi: I-I never expected this from you. But... I want to be with you too, Mitama.
Mitama: You do? Truly?
Asugi: I do. You're skilled, adorable, and wise beyond your years. And you've got a playful, sarcastic side. I like that in a girl. So...does this mean we're a couple now?
Mitama: Oh, Asugi! Yes, of course! I'm so happy you feel the same!
Asugi: I've actually felt this way for a while now... I just didn't know how to approach you. I guess you could say I've been SWEET on you for some time. Heh. Heh heh.
Mitama: Oh dear. Puns, the lowest art / Flowing from my lover's lips / My heart sinks like stone. What have I gotten myself into?

Asugi: Something wrong? You know if you keep making faces, it'll freeze like that.
Caeldori: Y-you ne'er-do-well! I'm only making this face because of you! Those...rags...do not come anywhere near meeting the army dress code.
Asugi: Huh? Something wrong with my clothes? Hm...you know, I never noticed, but you're right. They could stand some patching.
Caeldori: And they're filthy! How do you even manage to attract that much grime?
Asugi: Oh, you know. Baking is dirty work.
Caeldori: I am highly skeptical that is a necessary part of the process.
Asugi: What does it matter if my clothes get a little dirty? I spend most of my recon missions in the mud and the leaves anyways. No point in fancying myself up all the time. I'm not some dandy parade soldier.
Caeldori: This is an army. Accordingly, we have regulations. Regulations that must be met. Now, off with these clothes. They need to be mended and washed immediately.
Asugi: Can't it wait?
Caeldori: Do you want me to write you up for insubordination?
Asugi: Yeah, yeah. Criminy, lady, you'd think I was thieving, not wearing some dirty clothes.
Caeldori: That's "Yes, ma'am" to you, grunt.
Asugi: Y-yes, ma'am...

Caeldori: What have you done to the kitchen?! Did you open a portal to the Landfillrealm?
Asugi: Oh, heya, Caeldori. I was just making something sweet. Want some?
Caeldori: You made...a cake? Just one cake? How could you have possibly made a mess this big making ONE cake?
Asugi: Don't get yourself all worked up. I'll clean it up in a few.
Caeldori: Oh, really?
Asugi: Hey! What's with the stink eye? I told you I was gonna clean it up.
Caeldori: And how am I supposed to trust you this time? Last time you baked, we had to have a crew of eight clean up after you. Nobody in the army could eat until it was done. Two hours later.
Asugi: C'mon, can't you just let this slide? There's a marshmallow treat in it for ya.
Caeldori: You're not talking your way out of this. March, soldier.
Asugi: C'mon. I think you're just grumpy 'cause you've got low blood sugar. Here, just have a bite.
Caeldori: No.
Asugi: Hey, I'm walking with you, see? Taking a little nibble isn't going to slow us down.
Caeldori: ...Very well. If it will get you to shut that sticky little trap of yours. *chomp* Wh-what is this?! What have you put in this? It's...it's... It's delicious! I've never had anything like it!
Asugi: It's a special recipe I've been developing. And there's more where that came from. All you gotta do is turn a blind eye. Just this once. Please?
Caeldori: I...I... Fine. But only this once. Got it?
Asugi: Yes, ma'am. Thank you, ma'am.
(Asugi leaves)
Caeldori: This is so incredible. I can't believe it. I've never tasted something so good... Hey, Asugi! Wait! Where are you going?! You still have to clean this up later! You got that?!

Caeldori: Asugi!
Asugi: Oh no.
Caeldori: I haven't even said anything yet!
Asugi: Er, sorry. What can I do for you?
Caeldori: I came to tell you that I was thinking of banning you from the kitchen before. But after I tried that cake of yours...I knew I could not bear to do such a thing. Your treats are unparalleled. The gods themselves do not eat so well.
Asugi: I'm flattered. So! This mean I have free rein?
Caeldori: No. We can't afford to pull so many people off their work just to clean up after you. But...I've decided I can help you while you do your baking.
Asugi: Help me? How? Do you know how to cook?
Caeldori: I will clean up beside you while you make your confections. It's much less of a hassle than cleaning up after everything's dried and congealed.
Asugi: Hm. I suppose that makes sense. Are you sure?
Caeldori: Yes. Next time you wish to bake anything, report to me, and I'll help if I can. OK?
Asugi: You don't have to—
Caeldori: I'll take that as a yes. Now you can make all the sweets you want! Perhaps you would be willing to sell some to me once they have been made? But for now, I must attend to some other business.
(Caeldori leaves)
Asugi: Wait.
Caeldori: Yes?
Asugi: Thank you.
Caeldori: You're very welcome. Is that all?
Asugi: No. I'm very grateful, but I can't let you do all that for me. I'll turn over a new leaf. I promise. I'll do my own cleaning from here on out.
Caeldori: Oh? Really? Very well, then. I'll leave it to you. Thank you, Asugi.
Asugi: Yep. No problem. It's only right. But, uh, maybe you could still give me a hand every now and then? I'd appreciate the company.
Caeldori: Yes, of course. You may call on me anytime.
Asugi: Thanks. But I don't expect you to do this pro bono. I can pay you.
Caeldori: I don't require payment, Asugi. In fact, I'd be insulted if you—
Asugi: No, I don't mean money. I mean sweets. I'll make you as many as you'd like. Deal?
Caeldori: Yes, of course! C-could we start right now?!
Asugi: Haha! Sure, I don't see why not. If you could just grab me that bowl...

Asugi: Hey, Caeldori. Got a minute?
Caeldori: Ooh! Are we going to bake some more? Let me just get my apron—
Asugi: No, no, not this time.
Caeldori: Hm? Why not? Have I been forcing you to make too many treats for me? Was it the cake order?! I knew it! I'm so sorry! I knew 20 was pushing it...
Asugi: No, that's not it. Just, please, listen.
Caeldori: Huh? Then what is it?
Asugi: I...ah...I was wondering if you'd want to do more things together.
Caeldori: Like...making other foods? I know a few breakfast recipes, I guess...
Asugi: No, that's not it. What I mean to say is— I mean, it's just...it's just...
Caeldori: Asugi! Are you OK? Have you been poisoned?
Asugi: Agh, this is going nowhere! I don't know how to say this. Just...here! Take this!
Caeldori: A heart-shaped candy? "Be mine"? *chomp* *munch munch* Hm. It was sort of cute, but not very tasty... I'm surprised at you, Asugi!
Asugi: N-no...you weren't supposed to... It was... Gah! OK! OK! I'll just say it. *inhale* I want to be with you, Caeldori!
Caeldori: That isn't funny, Asugi.
Asugi: I mean it! I swear!
Caeldori: You? Want to be with me? Not buying it. What's your angle? Are you trying to get out of latrine duty? I told you, Asugi, everybody has to pull—
Asugi: No! I don't have an angle! Can't a guy just be fond of you?!
Caeldori: You really are serious, aren't you?
Asugi: Criminy, but you are a slow one. Yes! I'm serious! I fancy you.
Caeldori: I see... Teehee. You know, you're pretty cute when you're flustered. I like you too, silly. Why do you think I've been trying to get you to bake so much? Your sweets are good, but they're not THAT good.
Asugi: Hahaha, is that right? You're craftier than I thought.
Caeldori: Thank you. Now, on to business. If we're to be together, you're to look presentable. That means no more wearing clothes that look like a bunch of used wolfskin toys. You'll also need to stop keeping unwrapped food in your pockets. It's unsanitary. And what is that cat thing in your belt? Is that a sucker? A toy? A charm? Hm...now, what to do about your hair...
Asugi: Ugh... The things I'll do for love...

Asugi: Hey there, Sunshine. Had a question for you.
Rhajat: Call me Sunshine again, and I will pull your brains out through your eyes. Slowly. Now, what do you want? I'm busy. Stalking someone is hard work.
Asugi: Well, that's sort of what I wanted to talk to you about. I heard that you're a master at tailing people.
Rhajat: And?
Asugi: And I'm a ninja. A lot of the work I take on includes spying. Which means following people around and not being caught. THAT I can do. What I can't do is keep it up for days or weeks at a time, like you. So, tell me. What's your secret?
Rhajat: I do not have a secret. I suppose my skills arose naturally, having studied my target for months in advance. Heeheehee.
Asugi: Months?! I couldn't wait that long, even if my missions allowed it. That's some willpower you've got there.
Rhajat: No, it's not that. I wouldn't be able to do it were the target not extremely special. Very few people are worth this kind of dedication.
Asugi: Ah. So you can only spy on people you've got that whole creepy crush thing on. Not a whole lot of ways I can use that in my line of work, I guess. Oh well. Thanks.
Rhajat: Cr-creepy crush thing...? I'll show you who's creepy, you—
Asugi: Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with a stack of snickerdoodles. See ya!
(Asugi leaves)
Rhajat: C-curses. He's gone. Now where was I? Oh, yes, the nail clippings...

B Support

Rhajat: Asugi, do you recall how you asked me about how to...ah...follow people? Well, I thought of something that might help you out.
Asugi: Really? That'd be swell. So then, what's your secret?
Rhajat: It's more of a curse than a secret. You understand.
Asugi: A curse? Well, can't hurt to hear it. What've you got for me?
Rhajat: It's a curse which renders your target unable to detect you.
Asugi: N-no way! Could that really be possible? You've got to teach me, Rhajat!
Rhajat: Heh. I suppose I can do that. But there's something I should mention first. The caster must have a special connection to the target for the curse to succeed.
Asugi: A special connection?
Rhajat: Yes. A friendship would do, or perhaps being siblings. Or...other connections. So long as you are close, it should work.
Asugi: I have to make friends with them?! How am I supposed to do that when I'm spying?
Rhajat: Ah. Yes. That is a fair point. Drat.
Asugi: Hey, don't get frustrated. It was nice of you to share. Although it IS kind of a bizarrely specific curse. You must be the only lady on the planet to use it.
Rhajat: What is that supposed to mean...? Are you calling me creepy again? I'm afraid I cannot let such a comment go... unpunished.
Asugi: N-no! I didn't mean it like that!
Rhajat: Oh? Hehehe. Very well. I will let you off the hook. This time. But I WILL still need to teach you a lesson. Just...watch your back. Hee. Heeheehee...heeheeheehee!
(Rhajat leaves)
Asugi: Criminy. I need a cinnamon roll...

A Support

Asugi: Hey, wait a minute! Who's there?!
Rhajat: Heeheehee. So you finally noticed.
Asugi: How long have you been following me?
Rhajat: Hmmm. Well, let's see... I started before you returned to your tent... And your little snooze on the riverbank... And when you bought those new tools... And definitely before breakfast. You ate four sweet rolls, a bonbon, 12 cookies, and...a grilled fish? That can't be right. Is that right? Anyways, I've been watching you since before that.
Asugi: Th-that whole time?!
Rhajat: Yep. And you didn't even notice until now. How shameful. Especially for a ninja. Just think. If I were an enemy, you could have died a hundred times by now.
Asugi: There's no way! Nobody's ever gotten the drop on me before...unless... Did you—
Rhajat: Indeed I did. How does it feel to have been cursed? Is it tingly? Does it sting? My magic can dull even the keenest of senses. This was child's play. So! Have you learned to watch what you say around me?
Asugi: Y-yeah, I guess. But crickets. I didn't think your curse would be that effective. Are you sure there's no way I could find a way to use this sort of thing?
Rhajat: Not unless you were spying on old friends or lovers. Or perhaps targets of a secret monomaniacal obsession. But even in that case, the target must have some fellow feeling for the caster.
Asugi: Yeah, I don't exactly have any enemies I'm mono...er...obsessed with. Wait, so does the fact that the curse worked mean that we're...ah...close?
Rhajat: I...I suppose so. I guess this means we are...friends?
Asugi: Heh. Sure. And I'm honored to have a friend as bone-chillingly creepy as you.
Rhajat: Well, you don't have to be such a pig about it.
Asugi: Hey, I was just joking! I'm sorry. I joke when I'm embarrassed. I just thought it was cute, about that curse. Means you're not as cold as I thought. It's OK. I think you're pretty great too. Heh.
Rhajat: Don't go getting a swollen head about it. Unless you want me to make your head literally swell. Because I can arrange that.
Asugi: Haha. Fine. And I'm sorry for calling you creepy. That was wrong of me. Pals?
Rhajat: Very well. If you insist. ...Heeheehee.

S Support

Rhajat: Asuuuuuugiiiiii!
Asugi: Hng?! That sounds like Rhajat! Don't tell me... Hey! Have you been following me around all day again?
Rhajat: Oh, something like that. But I swear, it's for your safety. If I weren't here, an enemy might have snuck up on you. I just wanted to look out for my dear friend Asugi.
Asugi: Yeah, I'm not super convinced. What's the real reason you're here?
Rhajat: I made some adjustments to that curse I was telling you about. The one that prevents your target from noticing you.
Asugi: Oh. Is that all? OK. What kind of improvements we talking about?
Rhajat: Well, the last curse required a semireciprocal bond between two people. Of course, that's not much use for reconnaissance work. So I thought the problem might be solved if the caster could just think of the target.
Asugi: You mean you've gotten it to work like that? That's incredible.
Rhajat: Yes. I have successfully managed to cast it. But...it appears that the caster must still have strong feelings toward the target...
Asugi: Strong how? Like, murderous feelings? Hateful feelings?
Rhajat: No...like...feelings of love.
Asugi: Love?
Rhajat: Yes. ...
Asugi: Agh! It's even more useless than before!
Rhajat: O-oh.
Asugi: I mean, how am I supposed to fall in love with a person I don't even know? And that aside, I spend most of my time tailing other men... I mean, I'm open minded and all, but—
Rhajat: I am sorry to have wasted your time. I will take my leave now.
(Rhajat leaves)
Asugi: H-hey! Hang on a minute.
Rhajat: Yes?
Asugi: ...Did you use that curse on me?
Rhajat: Wh-what kind of ridiculous, absurd, stupid question is that?
Asugi: Well, you have to have tried it on someone; otherwise you wouldn't know it worked. And you said you were following me around, but I still didn't notice you... so it stands to reason I'm the one you tested it on. Am I right? I'm right, aren't I?
Rhajat: Y-you must be pretty full of yourself to think I'd...I'd...
Asugi: Oh? Haha. I'm sorry. I guess for some reason I thought you might... Bah. Never mind.
Rhajat: You thought...
Asugi: Ah, well...I think I love you. So it would have been nice if you had cursed me.
Rhajat: I see...
Asugi: ANYWAYS. Sorry to dump all that on ya. I'd better go now.
Rhajat: ...Wait.
Asugi: Criminy. Should I start saying my prayers?
Rhajat: No...you were right. I did test the curse on you. And it worked. So I guess that's that.
Asugi: Heh. I see.
Rhajat: What do we do now?
Asugi: I don't know. I just know I'm really very happy to hear you say that. Maybe now that we're together...
Rhajat: Watch it, ninja. I didn't say we were together just yet.
Asugi: Heh. All right, all right. But...well, I don't know. We can do whatever we want. If you want to, you can even keep casting that curse on me and following me around. Whatever it takes to make you happy. That's all I want. For us to be happy.
Rhajat: Hm...perhaps I could get used to this whole "relationship" phenomenon...

Asugi: You know they're not alive, right? It's just flour and sugar.
Ignatius: Of course I know that. But I still can't.
Asugi: Hmph. Fine. Then I'll just have to force one down your throat myself!

Asugi: Heh. Trying to beat me at my own game, huh? It's on now. But remember, making quality candy is an art. And I am an artist. You talk a good game, but you'll find it's not so easy to pull off.
Soleil: Heheh. I see what you're doing, and I won't be scared off. Soon enough, it'll be YOU tossed aside like day-old cake. And don't come crying to me when it happens!

Soleil: Arrrrrrghhhhhh! ASUGI!
Asugi: Is there a problem, Soleil? Urgh...what is that burning smell?! Hey, whoa, get away from me!
Soleil: LOOK AT THIS!
Asugi: What am I looking at? A black lump? Have you been mining coal?
Soleil: No! This was SUPPOSED to be the hard candy you were making.
Asugi: That doesn't look like any candy I've ever seen. What recipe were you using...?
Soleil: That's what I wanna know! I made it just the way you did when I was spying on you! I was careful to follow every step exactly like I saw you doing it. Ugh...my dream of winning over all the girls with delicious candy... It's turned to horrible slag, just like this gross, black un-candy.
Asugi: Speaking of which, PLEASE throw that thing away. It's making me retch.
Soleil: I dunno. I hate to see all my hard work go to waste.
Asugi: I hate to break it to you, but we're long past that point. Any girl you offer THAT to might not ever speak to you again. Besides, you don't have the first idea about how to hide it. If you keep the candy under your armpit, not only will it break, it'll smell terrible.
Soleil: Huh, good point. Though I think that might actually have improved this batch.
Asugi: Face it, Soleil. Your candy is never going to be a hit with the ladies.
Soleil: *sigh* You're probably right.
Asugi: Heh... You always seemed pretty sharp on the battlefield. I wouldn't have expected you to flounder this hard at simple baking.
Soleil: You think I'm a good fighter?
Asugi: Sure. I think so, anyway. I can't count how many times you've saved me out there. It probably comes naturally to you. And that's how you should approach those girls you like, too. Don't force yourself to use my technique. Just do what comes naturally.
Soleil: That's good advice. I'll remember that!
Asugi: All that aside, do you still want to learn to make candy?
Soleil: Hmmm...sure, why not!
Asugi: OK. I'll teach you for real so you don't have to crib off what you think I'm doing. I owe you that much from battle.
Soleil: Really?! Whoa, thanks! I take back all that stuff I said. You're a swell guy after all!
Asugi: Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Get your hands off me! You've still got that horrible gunk on you, and I don't want that stuff on my clothes!
Soleil: Whoops! Lemme change real quick.
Asugi: Not HERE! Ugh! I wasn't planning on using my ninjutsu today, but here we are. Hrah!
(Asugi leaves)
Soleil: Huh? Where'd Asugi go? Asugi? Hellooooooo? *sniff* Hmm, there's a burned smell fading behind me. That would explain it...

Soleil: Asugi, I did it! See for yourself! The sweets smell really, really good!
Asugi: Nicely done. Now all you have to do is chill them, wrap them up, and hide them in your clothes.
Soleil: It's weird. The longer I look at these, the less I can believe I made them. So you think the girls will like these, do you?
Asugi: Oh yeah. They'll be falling all over themselves for your sweets.
Soleil: And you're not saying that to flatter me?
Asugi: On my honor. If I was one of your girls, I'd be drooling right now. ...Sorry, that got away from me. You know what I mean.
Soleil: Hahah, understood. You know, I think I'm going to stop copying you once I get your candy recipe down.
Asugi: What? But you tried so hard.
Soleil: Not as hard as you did. You act cold, but you're really nice. You did so much to help me. Those girls who I thought were only after your candy... I think now they were really attracted to what a good guy you are. So even if I somehow made better candy than you could, it wouldn't help.
Asugi: This is great. Keep those compliments coming. You're falling for me too now, huh?
Soleil: Ahaha, please! Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Maybe if you were a little cuter...but sadly, you're not my type.
Asugi: Hah...I should have known.
Soleil: Thanks, Asugi. You taught me something more important than how to make candy. I'm going to win those girls over in my own way!
Asugi: That's how it's done. You can't go through life down someone else's path. It wouldn't have meant anything if those girls fell for a recipe that I taught you.
Soleil: All the same, I got you something as thanks for today.
Asugi: Oh yeah? What'd you... Soleil! This is... I don't know what to say!
Soleil: It's the weekly special pastry from the town's best bakery.
Asugi: You got this just for me?! Soleil, you're my favorite person in the whole world! No joke, no flattery, I could kiss you right now.
Soleil: Heheh, looks like waking up early to get in line paid off. That's the kind of effort I need to put in to win those girls' hearts, too... Not copying anyone else, but coming up with my own ideas! I can't wait!

Asugi: I've been hearing interesting things about you from the girls around camp. They're talking about how much fun it is to go out with Soleil.
Soleil: No way! You're not pulling my leg, right?
Asugi: Nope. You know all the best places in town to go for sweets.
Soleil: Ahaha, I might have you to thank for that. I had to try a bunch of places when I was out shopping for those pastries for you.
Asugi: It's not just the girls, mind you. I hear things from the guys, too. They're all impressed at how good you are in battle.
Soleil: Yeah? Well, that's not as exciting. Let's go back to how into me the girls are.
Asugi: I...I'm serious, Soleil. You've got a lot of people interested in you.
Soleil: Hah, you say that like it's a bad thing. Wait...is it? Asugi...
Asugi: ...
Soleil: Are you jealous that I've stolen your thunder?
Asugi: No!
Soleil: Hmm, true, I did stop stealing your act. Then what's got you so upset?
Asugi: *sigh* All right, I'll stop beating around the bush. I'm worried you'll get so caught up in one of them that you won't have time for me.
Soleil: What?
Asugi: I dunno... I'd miss you. We'd just gotten to be friends, and I hate the idea of losing that. We haven't even been to a candy store together! I have so much to show you! I have fun hanging out with you. I know you like spending time with me, too. And I'm worried you'll forget about that as soon as the next cute girl comes along.
Soleil: Asugi...
Asugi: I don't care if it sounds silly. I had to get it off my chest.
Soleil: It does sound ridiculous! For cripes' sake, Asugi... To hear you talk, it's impossible to have more than one friend at once. Why would hanging out with the girls mean I couldn't spend time with you?
Asugi: Then...you wouldn't ditch me? Even if you found a girlfriend?
Soleil: No way. You're too good a friend to abandon like that!
Asugi: Whew!
Soleil: I can't believe we're even having this conversation.
Asugi: Heh...I do feel a little silly, now that it's all out in the open. But it's good we talked about it. Now I know for sure you'll stick with me. I'll never doubt you again—I promise.
Soleil: You'd better not! If there's one thing you can count on, it's me being your friend.
Asugi: Yeah.
Soleil: Now then...what were you saying about a tour of the sweetshops in town?

Asugi: Aha! There's the so-called "merchant" himself...hard at work. I see you selling your apothecary potions and secondhand weapons, sir. But are you also gathering information as a spy? I'll soon find out.
(Asugi leaves)
Nina: Hee, hee! Mmm...what have we here?
(Nina leaves)
Asugi: What was that? Have I been spotted? No...it appears not. That looks like...Nina. What is she doing out here?
(Asugi leaves)
Nina: "How much for the worn leather satchel?" "For you? I can offer a very special price..." Hee, hee!
(Nina leaves)
Asugi: Hmm...
(Asugi leaves)
Nina: "Well, thank you kindly, sir. Say, what are your plans this evening?" "I'll pack up shop around 7. After that, anything could happen." Be still, my racing heart!
Asugi: Hey!
Nina: Gah! Asugi? Why'd you creep up on me like that?
Asugi: Heh. Sorry about that. Are you also keeping an eye on that shady-looking merchant?
Nina: Both eyes, actually. How did you know?
Asugi: It's pretty obvious. Anyway, I don't need your help tailing the guy. I've been after him for a while now. Pretty sure he's actually a spy.
Nina: A spy? Oh, that's good. I'll use that.
Asugi: What are you talking about?
Nina: None of your beeswax, Asugi. I'm just doing a little daydreaming.
Asugi: Huh?
Nina: Don't worry. It has nothing to do with you. Now, if you'll leave me alone with my mysterious merchant...
(Nina leaves)
Asugi: Hmm. Not sure I trust her either.

Asugi: I have to admit... So far, this merchant appears to be on the up-and-up. Perhaps he isn't a spy after all... Aha! What have we here?
(Asugi leaves)
Nina: Hee, hee! Oh, what do you have in store for me today, Mr. Merchant…
Asugi: Hey!
Nina: Ahhh! Asugi! I told you to stop doing that!
Asugi: Sorry, but I didn't want you to run away. You know, like last time?
Nina: Huh? I don't remember that.
Asugi: Nina, the last time I caught you like this, you up and ran away. You really don't remember? Anyway, today I need you to tell me what's going on. Why are you stalking this merchant?
Nina: Would we really call it "stalking"?
Asugi: Yes. Yes, we would.
Nina: Hmpf. Fine. Wait a second... Why are YOU stalking him? And ME!
Asugi: Oh, no. I'm asking the questions here. You were staring so hard it's a wonder you didn't bore holes into his head.
Nina: I just like people watching, OK? I find our little merchant VERY intriguing.
Asugi: Yeah, well I do too. Because it's been rumored that he's a spy!
Nina: A spy? Give me a break! He'd never be a spy.
Asugi: Why do you say that?
Nina: Because, well, I've never seen him do anything suspicious. He wakes up pretty early to prep his wares, and then he's with customers all day. At night, he sorts his inventory and reads. He doesn't have time to be a spy.
Asugi: Um...
Nina: What?
Asugi: You have a lot of free time on your hands, don't you.
Nina: What are you implying?
Asugi: No matter. You've provided me with useful information. I'll have to do some thinking...
Nina: Yeah...you do that, Asugi. I'll just be on my way!
(Nina leaves)
Asugi: Hey, stop! Gah, she got away again.

Asugi: Hey, Nina, wait up.
Nina: Oh, hello, Asugi. Here to nag me about stalking again?
Asugi: No...but this is related. We've cleared the merchant of any wrongdoing. Thanks in part to the information you provided me the other day.
Nina: Well, of course. I told you so!
Asugi: Well, anyway...thank you for your vigilance.
Nina: Well, I guess if my spying helped you out and cleared him, then I'm happy.
Asugi: Yeah! Who'd have thought that all the time you wasted on him would actually pan out?
Nina: Now, wait just a second. Who said I was wasting any time? What I do with my time is MY business, buster.
Asugi: Sorry. I could have phrased that better. I'm actually pretty impressed with your surveillance skills. Not just anyone could pull that off. Maybe you've got a future in covert activities.
Nina: Yeah, well, the way you were able to sneak up behind me was kind of impressive, too. I can hear most people coming a mile away.
Asugi: Well, my dad had me doing ninja stuff before I could even walk, so... I guess you could say I've got a little experience being stealthy.
Nina: It's funny, I never even thought about how useful your skills could be... Do you think you could teach me a few things? Because you're kind of amazing.
Asugi: Eh, I'm not bad. But thanks for the compliment. Anyway, sure, I could give you a couple of tips, I suppose.
Nina: Great! So, I'd really like to learn how to observe a conversation undetected. Like, say two super-cute guys are just hanging out talking... How can I get close enough to listen without them seeing me?
Asugi: I'm not sure about this. Are you going to use the skills for evil? It sounds a bit evil.
Nina: Oh, goodness no! Only for good! Now, make with the ninja lessons!

Asugi: Hey, Nina. I was thinking of making a run into town for some candy. You in?
Nina: Huh? Don't you normally do that with one of your guy friends? Why would you suddenly invite me?
Asugi: What can I say? I find you interesting. I want to spend more time with you. And I feel like even though I'm giving you ninja lessons... You know a few techniques that I've never even heard of.
Nina: Oh, trying to steal all my secrets! Sorry, I can't share those with just anyone.
Asugi: Aw, don't be like that. Here, take one of my sweets.
Nina: You think you can bribe me with a piece of candy? Ha! Stop following me.
Asugi: Heh. And there's that razor-sharp tongue. I love how quick you are with a comeback.
Nina: Ugh...you're still here? Wait, what did you say?
Asugi: Well, I was TRYING to say that I enjoy talking to you. Sometimes I don't know what you're talking about, but it's always fascinating. And...I like your smile.
Nina: Really? Me? You...you know I'm into some pretty weird stuff, right?
Asugi: Honestly? The weirder the better. I think we could actually be good friends.
Nina: Oh, Asugi. I only wish you'd told me about this sooner. I wouldn't have run away from you so many times! I did always have a good feeling about you. Should we get married now?
Asugi: Whoa! That's moving a little fast, don't you think?
Nina: I don't think so—everyone else is doing it! But, I suppose we can try being best friends for a little while first.
Asugi: Yes...that sounds more reasonable. I guess this means...we're a couple now? That could be fun...
Nina: Yep! Hee, hee...
