“ | How do you ever expect the citizens of Thracia to be content thriving off the blood and sweat of other nations? ...Your ways leave much to be desired, father. | ” | — Altena, to Travant |
---|
Altena (Japanese: アルテナ Altenna) is the princess of Leonster, the daughter of Quan and Ethlyn, the elder sister of Prince Leif, and a full-blooded descendant of the Crusader Noba as well as a bearer of the Baldur bloodline of Chalphy. As an infant, she was with her parents when they and the Lanze Ritter were murdered by King Travant and the Thracian Dragon Knights in the Yied Massacre, and in its aftermath she was taken by Travant along with her father's Gáe Bolg, which she was capable of wielding. She was raised as Travant's daughter along with Areone, Travant's actual son and her foster brother, and as she grew she served as a princess of Thracia and a Dragon Knight in Thracia's army during the era of Grannvale occupation of the Manster District to the north.
It was not until seventeen years later that she met Leif and learned of her true parentage, as he and Seliph led their revolution army through the Thracian Peninsula. Convinced of the truth of Leif's words, at the advice of Areone she allied with Leif and Seliph, assisting in the defeat of Thracia before moving on with them to reclaim Miletos and launch an assault on Grannvale itself. At Grannvale, she convinced Areone to assist Seliph rather than continue to serve Julius.

Role
Following the fall of Bloom and the Grannvale occupation of the Manster District, Travant dispatched Altena and Coruta to assault Manster, now occupied by Sety. Altena's misgivings about attacking innocents caused her to refuse to continue the attack; Coruta refused to listen and insisted on the doomed raid, losing to Seliph' army. During this encounter and the subsequent loss of Mease Castle, Altena merely observed from the mountains; Finn, a former Leonster Knight, noticed her presence and identified her as Quan's lost daughter.
After the loss of Mease, Altena reported back to a displeased Travant, who ordered her to sortie again to reclaim Mease; this time, she complied in full, given the lack of risk to innocents. During this fight, she was stopped by Leif, who revealed her true identity to her; initially in disbelief, she saw the truth from looking at her brother, and fled the battlefield to confront Travant about his hand in the deaths of her true parents. In response, Areone subdued her, and she recovered after Travant died on the battlefield. Acting under the encouragement of Areone, Altena reluctantly left Thracia to ally with Leif and Seliph.
In the last throes of the final confrontation at Grannvale, when Areone and a squad of Thracian mercenaries came under the payroll of Julius to subdue the revolution base at Chalphy, Altena convinced Areone to stand down and ally with Seliph.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
As Leif's fledgling army fled through the mountains to Hannibal's mansion to rendezvous with the Leonster knights under his protection, Altena and Travant were touring the region, and were informed by Marlock that the army was in fact a bandit group. There, she had a discussion with Travant about his dreams for Thracia and the Manster District, and his resignation to the inevitable damnation upon him for his methods, before leaving, entrusting the situation to Marlock.
Later, Altena travelled to Tahra during the Freege siege against it and took up residence in a house on its outskirts. When Dean came to visit, by Areone's request she gave him the Dragon Lance, and reminded and encourage him of his role in protecting Linoan in lieu of Areone himself.
During Leif's march on Manster itself, Altena travelled to the region to oversee Coruta's observations of the battle. When Coruta advocated launching an assault on Manster, Altena objected to the notion on the grounds of the innocent civilians in the line of fire, but was ultimately ignored by Coruta on the grounds that his attack orders came from Travant himself. Disappointed in Coruta's choice, Altena left to return to Thracia.
Stats
Altena is present in Chapter 23 as an enemy. However, she cannot be legitimately fought or defeated, and leaves the battlefield when Coruta begins his attack.

Skill set
Like all female bonus units in Awakening, Altena has access to all base class and advanced class skills available to standard female units.
Personality and character
As a contrast to her adoptive father's brutal ways, Altena - like Areone - opted for a kinder approach, refusing to turn her weapons against innocent civilians even if it involved opposing Travant's commands.[2] Where possible, she insisted on Travant opting for a less underhanded and brutal way of life for the good of Thracia, and despite her affection for Travant, had no issue with criticising his methodology.[3] Where innocents were not involved, however, Altena was a strong and uncompromising warrior. She had little patience for trickery, and to this end brushed off Leif's initial attempts to convince her of her true heritage and was enraged when confronting Travant about the same.
Love growths and events
Altena is not capable of gaining love growth with anyone.
- In Chapter 9, when she appears as an enemy, Leif can initiate a conversation with Altena which prompts her to leave the battlefield and sets in motion the process of recruiting her.
- Later if the above conversation happened, the turn after Travant has been killed, Altena will reappear as an enemy. She will seek out Seliph and automatically talk to him, which recruits her.
- In Chapter 9, either Hannibal or Finn can initiate a conversation with Altena after Grutia has been seized, awarding her +3 HP.
- In Chapter 10, Leif can initiate a conversation with Altena at any time, awarding her +1 Luck.
- In Chapter 10, Corpul/Sharlow can initiate a conversation with Altena after Miletos has been seized, awarding her +5 Resistance.
- In the Endgame, when Areone appears as an enemy, Altena can talk to him, turning him and his Wyvern Riders into partner units.
