First game

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light

Elfire (Japanese: エルファイアー Elfire) is a recurring fire tome which debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and is present in all games except Fire Emblem Gaiden and Fates. It is a spell which summons a pillar of fire around the foe.

Elfire is an advanced version of the basic Fire tome, and in games which feature the three separate schools of anima magic, it is the second "stage" of the hierarchy of fire magic, the counterpart to Elthunder and Elwind, and is itself surpassed by Arcfire and Bolganone. In games featuring anima magic or tomes in general only as a generalized weapon rank, it is ranked as a medium-level tome.

English Elfire From "El", a prefix used by the Fire Emblem series to represent a higher second tier of magic + "fire".
Japanese エルファイア
エルファイアー
• Elfire. Used in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light.
• Romanized as ELFIRE in internal file names. Used from Mystery of the Emblem onward. It was likely changed so that the fire part of its name matched the fire tome.
Spanish Elfire As above.
French Inferno A synonym for the Abrahamic Hell of Italian origin which, through the influence of Dante Alighieri's 14th-century Divine Comedy, now also refers to very large and destructive fires.

Italian Fuoco d'elfo From fuoco, "fire" + d'elfo, "elfin", the Italian version's equivalent to the "El" prefix.
