The Black Knight (漆黒の騎士, Shikkoku no Kishi, Dark Knight in the Japanese version) is the rival of Ike in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He is a free-lance knight who works for Ashnard, the king of Daein. He is a large knight shrouded in black armor, which is blessed by the goddess Ashera, making it impervious to all normal weapons. He also wields the Alondrite, a powerful and indestructible blade. The Black Knight first appears when Ike finishes his training with his father, Greil. He becomes Ike's rival after Ike witnesses him killing his father. From then on, Ike has sworn revenge on the Black Knight.

During the course of the game, Ike is able to fight the Black Knight multiple times, but cannot defeat him without using Ragnell. Later on in the game, Ike and his sister Mist both confront the Black Knight. If Ike defeats the Black Knight, Nasir will join Ike's army. If Ike does not defeat the Black Knight, then Nasir will come and aid Ike, and Ena, the granddaughter of Nasir, will join. After both incidents, the castle will collapse, and the Black Knight will be buried in the rubble.

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, the Black Knight helps Micaiah. He is eventually defeated by Ike when in the tower.

The Black Knight is first seen in a cutscene in Path of Radiance, where he is shown duelling with Greil. This duel finishes with Greil's defeat. Later on, the Black Knight can be seen in various conversations with Ashnard about how he will achieve his goal, and the future of Daein, also bringing up the matter of Ena's fate. In Chapter 24, the Black Knight is seen viewing Ike and the other mercenaries fight. When the battle is over, Ike goes to try and defeat him, but he is told that he can't harm the Black Knight, as his armor was blessed by the goddess.
