Appearance(s)
’Course, my Jake won’t talk to no-one but the most beautiful of women...
— Anna, on her own appearance

Anna (アンナ) is a recurring character from across the entire Fire Emblem series, save Gaiden. Across the series she has appeared in a diverse number of gameplay support roles - she most frequently recurs as the proprietor of the Secret Shops and confirming whether a player wants to suspend their game - and it is strongly implied that she travels the various Fire Emblem universes with her romantic interest, Jake, having notably made stops in Jugdral and Elibe. While Anna's facial features may slightly change from game to game, she is never seen without a sly smile, her index finger resting on her face, and her red hair tied back in a ponytail. After twelve games and twenty-two years of minor support appearances, Anna became a playable character in Fire Emblem: Awakening while still reprising some of her roles form the previous games.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Shadow Dragon

During the Archanea League's march to recapture Pales, Anna was living in a house in Knorda. When visited, she mentioned that Jake was working for theoretical Grust occupation forces as a ballistician, telling the player that Jake was not a bad man at all and asking the player to pass on her well-wishes. This prompted Caeda to try talking to Jake, convincing him to defect and ally with Marth; when Jake visited Anna, she encouraged him in this new endeavour, expressing her belief that he would only ever fight for a righteous cause.

Though this role of hers was omitted - along with Jake himself - from Mystery of the Emblem Book 1, she still appears in the capacity of the Secret Shop proprietor in these three games and New Mystery of the Emblem.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

In a village in Lenster, during the liberation army's fight against Bloom's control of the Manster District, Anna appeared before Laylea and gave her a Barrier Sword. She mentioned that Jake had already departed to join the liberation war effort, fighting her for, and remarked that Laylea looked as though she was doing the same.

Anna will not appear if her visited by any other character; as such, her appearance is technically only possible if Sylvia did not have children. Additionally, she otherwise does not appear in the game in any other capacity.

Fire Emblem

Anna was staying at the inn of Badon at the time of Fargus's challenge to Eliwood, Hector and Lyn. She gave them some advice on completing the gauntlet, which she in turn had learned from Jake, who was part of Fargus's crew at the time. She also asked that they pass her well-wishes on to Jake should they run into him.

If the player visits the inn during The Port of Badon, the next chapter, Pirate Ship, will feature different dialogue just before the battle; instead of Dart explaining the presence of merchants on the ship, Jake will instead speak with the army.

In a non-story capacity, Anna runs the game's secret shops and Link Arena, and also appears in the prompt to erase all saved data; she also fills the same roles in the other Game Boy Advance installments, The Binding Blade and The Sacred Stones.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn

Anna makes fewer appearances in these games due to the lack of Secret Shops, and she no longer appears in the prompt for the player to suspend their data. Instead, Anna hosts the in-game tutorial of the two games; of particular note is that these tutorials feature Anna as a Pegasus Knight, and while she does not attack in these tutorials, it marked the first time Anna appeared as a unit.

Endings

Anna, Secret Seller (single ending)
With nary a word, Anna left the others and returned to her free-spirited merchant life. She was later sighted across the continent, haggling with suppliers and beating down the cost of goods.

<Avatar>, High Deliver & Anna, Secret Seller
Many wrote of <Avatar>'s legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Anna, above all else.

Against Clair in Lost Bloodlines 2

Anna: Say, can I interest you in a bit of fine merchandise?
Clair: You're one of the warriors from afar. Don't play mind games with me.
Anna: All right. My offer just expired! And unfortunately, so will you.

Against Serra in Smash Brethren 2

Anna: So, I know this great way to get rich quick. Why not lay down arms and pick up some tips?
Serra: Why would I care about your schemes? Just fight!

Against Serra in Smash Brethren 3

Anna: So, I've got this sweet arrangement with a dashing noble... Why don't we stop fighting and go rub noses with the rich and handsome?
Serra: R-really? How handsome? ...Wait. How dare you play with my emotions like that!

Against Sephiran in Rogues & Redeemers 1

Anna: Hi! Want to take a look at my wares?
Sephiran: Wouldn't your comrades disapprove of you selling to the enemy, merchant?
Anna: Hey, I'm allowed to cut a profit, as long as I cut down my share of foes.
Sephiran: Let's see how good you are at the latter.

Against Sephiran in Rogues & Redeemers 2

Sephiran: You're a merchant, are you now? How much to buy your allegiance?
Anna: Um...sorry. I'm not for sale. Money doesn't buy everything. ...Just MOST things.
Sephiran: Then we'll settle this with the oldest currency there is: violence!

Against Sephiran in Rogues & Redeemers 3

Anna: It's just you and me.
Sephiran: Aren't you going to strike a bargain? You're a merchant.
Anna: True. Which is why I can tell when there's no use haggling.
Sephiran: Ah. Then you've a keen insight indeed.

DLC battle quotes

"Robbery" is one of my danger words, but it looks like I escaped unscathed. My shops are one thing, but no one can know about my, er, personal accounts. And YOU won't be telling them! I can promise you that...
— Anna, in The Golden Gaffe.
Wrecking someone's inventory is as bad as murder in my book! My merchant's heart goes out to that shockingly lovely field keeper. You'll pay for your crimes!
— Anna, in EXPonential Growth.
Now THAT'S what I call a weapon! It belongs in a museum! ...Or better yet, on the top shelf of a fine establishment like my own. Once I've beaten you, maybe I could take it off your hands...?
— Anna, in Infinite Regalia.
It must've cost a fortune to install all these spikes. And look how well they hold their edge despite the rust! That's no ordinary steel... Hmm? Oh, forgive my rambling, dear. A merchant's instincts don't silence so easily!
— Anna, in Death's Embrace.
Other Anna's sisters are my sisters too. You'd better believe I'll save them all! Funny, though—it seems like they all live and work together, huh? I'm not that close with any of my sisters. I admit I'm almost a little jealous!
— Anna, in Five-Anna Firefight.
Trust means everything in my business. A couple of bad rumors could ruin a girl! Say, handsome...have you read the roster? What does it say about little old me? ...Wait, why am I even asking? I'll just waste you and check it myself!
— Anna, in Roster Rescue.
Brigands attacking the resort? That can't be good for business... I expect full compensation for the financial harm you've caused my sister! As you're about to learn, the tenacity of a debt collector runs as deep as the sea!
— Anna, in Summer Scramble.
It's human nature to flock to places with significant commercial value... But that's no excuse for the likes of you inhuman dirtbags! You're bad for business. If you're not here to shop, get out and stay out!
— Anna, in Hot-Spring Scramble.
